    The books/authors Eckhart mentions are:
I Am That - Nisargadatta Maharaj
A Course in Miracles - Helen Schucman
    Books by Joel Goldsmith
Tao Te Ching: A New English Version - Stephen Mitchell
    Books by Ramana Maharshi

      My suggestions are;
The Untethered Soul by Michael Singer
Journey of Souls by Michael Newton
Perhaps not the same theme as Eckhart's suggestions but life changing books all the same 🙏

"I am That" by Nisargadatta Maharaj is one of the best. The question/answer format between him and curious seekers of primarily western origin, is invaluable. The two way dialogue creates a lot of space for a third person (the reader) to step into naturally.

Eckhart, just listening to your voice, and hearing your laugh and feeling your authenticity brings me into presence. It was your steady, beautifully expressed knowing that assisted me in giving up an addiction I had for pain killers. I love you very much and thank God for your love and sharing.

It’s so funny that he should talk about this. I bought his book Stillness Speaks a while ago and always said that it is the most powerful book I’ve ever owned. It brings me into presence immediately. I love this book and wherever I go it’s with me. I can’t explain what happens when I read a passage but something deep inside me just opens up and I feel incredible peace and joy. I’ve mentioned this in the past on another comment and people said they listened to it on line but it is truly not the same as holding this precious book in your hands. Thank you Eckhart for dedicating your life to awakening the rest of us. I know when I’m deep into presence I just want to sit alone and feel the being within. It must be very difficult to continue to spend all this time with people who are lost in their ego. Thank you so much for making that effort. God bless

My mother in law gave me The Power of Now and it sat on my shelf for at least from years! And yes I guess I had to suffer a bit more! Life giving so transforming. I’m so grateful she did! Was the beginning of my awakening. So so grateful for you Eckhart! Sold my car that still had a cd player and I listened to the Becoming a teacher of presence for probably the last year! I will have to get the audio downloaded for my new car 😀😊✨🙏thank you for being such a light in this world!!

I absolutely concur. Another one I'm reading, that has been surprisingly good, is Walden - Henry David Thoreau who writes about his experiences living in a cabin .. its surprisingly spiritual, and parts of it I could connect with Eckhardt's teaching. Its was like Thoreau ( writing in 1846 ) knew it all, but just didn't have the same terms.

I ordered the Power of Now CDs from Netflix. I begin watching the first one and thought, who is this littler twerp 😮 sent the CD back.
About 2 weeks later I ended up on painkillers after an accident. The second Elkhart CD arrived. I turned it on, cuddled up on my couch, and then - “Oh Wow!” I was so grateful I found him through these CDs.
About 4 years later, inspired by him I started a meditation group in my living room. 2 years later, we moved it to a larger meditation center. That was 2015 and the group continues :-)
Thanks for sharing your experience Elkhart! ❤ (I know you’re feeling my vibe.)
    Thanks for whoever shared this.

It was his book that helped me through deep suffering.
I had The Power of Now for about 3 years before I started to actually read it. I don’t even know how I got it🤦‍♀️. But it kept coming into my reality, through conversations, through videos and through instincts.
Once I started to read it, the suffering started to slowly slither away.
I’m Māori and we don’t believe in learning through books so I questioned my self a lot.
I guess there needs to be a balance through books and physical action learning.
    Thank you Eckart💜

Eckhart, Hi...I feel compelled to say this and it has been stirring for some time. I believe that Love is a portal to The Source. I think you may be wrong on that. I believe that the more Love you give, share, exude the more it cracks and breaks through the unconsciousness of Humanity. Love has always been my doorway inside and outside as young as I can remember and I honestly believe, know with my whole heart that Love is the meaning of Life.

it's funny, I had read two of Tolles books before ever watching his videos.
then a friend gave me a CD of Tolle lectures,
at first I was afraid to listen, "what if I don't like his voice?"
becuz Power of Now & a New Earth
were so vital to my getting beyond the voice(s) in my head, would it jinx things if I didnt like his voice?
I needn't have worried, i loved his voice right away,
& now, after watching listening to so many yt videos & short clips of Tolle,
when I look up things to read in the Power of Now,
it is Tolles voice that I hear speaking the words & it is a blessing!

The Power of Now spontaneously stopped my thoughts many times while reading it. It was like a humming fridge I'd never noticed before was turned off. Total silence. It freaked my out a bit at first, but I eventually assumed it was some kind of deep recognition of truth. I've read it five times now.
I Am That I feel is a more advanced text. I've been reading it for 10 years and still haven't finished the thing. Not because it's not great, just that it's so densely packed I can only read a few pages at a time.

With your book "a new earth," I had started reading it at age 15, and I was loving it, but the concept of oneness went over my head, and when you talked about being the awareness behind our thoughts, to me that made sense but sounded very obvious, and I think that's because I've always had a more naturally meditative mind, and I found out this year, (I'm 35 now), that most people are not like that, so now I'm over here like, ooooh no wonder people find his teachings so profound. But I never finished the book. Something made me mad at that time, and I'm curious to see if I'll even remember what it is. I highly doubt it would trigger me now. I'm about half way through. Now autobiography of a yogi has come into my life, and I was not ready for something like that even a year ago.

My world became an unfamiliar place as childhood gave way to adulthood.
The grown up rules did not make any sense? They only confused me.

Suddenly, innocence was abandoned and replaced, almost overnight, with adult games, dramas, and nobody explained the rules.

I learned from my older siblings, listening to whispers and mistakes…many mistakes.

The world used to make sense.

Now, even though I am past middle age, it still does not make much sense.
The only thing that makes any sense to me is the present moment, not only does it give me a return to the wonder and mystery of childhood, it brings me creativity, and the perception to perceive who I am.

Perhaps the deepest aspect of all, is a feeling that I am a part of Nature, that I am connected to it.

It is as if Nature is the Sun, and I am the Sunshine.

The same quality as Nature, but not the same quantity.

    It is Beautiful.
Much Love to you, and I wish you all the best on your journey.

Two stories. I gave the power of now to my friend and later got a call from her. She told me she had started reading the power of now while she was waiting for her dentist at the dentist office. She asked me if it was possible that it would make her feel like she was floating or even outside her body. I laughed and told her yes that that was certainly possible!
I gave the power of now to my quite brilliant mother-in-law and she reported back to me that she hated it. She didn't just not get it, she really disliked it!
Two very different responses. For me, that book is always fresh and always shifts me.

I Am That, Nisargadatta. (Specific passage: "I am that." Has different chapters and headings.)
Sri Ramana Maharshi (Author) (specifically his texts on "the I, the concept of self.")
Tao Te Ching. (Suggested Stephen Mitchell's interpretation of the Tao Te Ching. This one was originally meant to be used more as an Oracle. It isn't a traditional sort of spiritual text. Still helpful, but not what I expected.)
"Oh and of course the ancient classics."
      The Western/Christian oriented texts:
A Course In Miracles, original text and lessons.
Joel Goldsmith (author who published quite a few books between 1947 & his passing in 1964). ("Takes it to a much deeper level than what you would hear in church.")

Solitude is an unmarked place beyond the borders of the map, a place where most fear to tread.
It’s no surprise, then, that this is where the greatest secrets and most valuable treasures are hidden.

It’s really cool to get book recommendations from Eckhart himself as only his books ever gave me this sense of aliveness every time they are opened. I have been reading a page or two a day for years and it always feels new. Truly magical

In the future you will be able to read a book while absorbing the authors emotions simultaneously. It makes reading much more enjoyable because the passion and strength induced by the words can be felt with the heart.

Is practicing a course in miracles and doing transcendental meditation too much? Meaning should I keep to one spiritual practice or do more?

Continue doing both! They compliment each other. ACIM will give you the spiritual concepts, while TM will bring the stillness to your mind that is needed to break through your Ego's attempt to block a spiritual experience.

When I was 17 someone gave me Be Here Now by Ram Das. I read it during a study hall in high school. It was amazing. People thought I was high, I had such a spiritual response to it. I’m 60 now and still vividly remember that day.

Same here except it frightened me then and had to put it away for some time. Guess I was not ready. I became an avid Ram Dass follower Had privilege of seeing him speak twice in small venue. Oh my. I still have my original copy. It has life of its own

Goodness so similar, I cannot forget the first time I read the power of now and I felt like I could not understand a word but then two or three years later, your teachings changed me completely. After that anytime I read your books, they automatically make me still. Also, listening to and reading Krishnamurti and Rumi make me still instantly. Grateful for them and your teachings ❤
