I have mercury dimes from my father. I never thought anything of them until i came across your channel. He use to collect coins. But as a kid i never paid any attention to it. Now i am so glad i didn't get rid of them, even if they are not worth anything i now have some understanding of why he collected them, and it means a lot to me to have something that he cherished. Best thing to do is get them graded and once you find out their value, than either use a high rated an reputable coin auction house to help you sell them. Be aware if you do this they will charge you a fee upon commission of sale on your behalf.

Note, you said Mercury dimes have " torches " bundle on back? You mean axe bundle. Right? Roosevelt dimes have the torches.
It is not a torch on the back of the mercury (liberty in a phrygian winged cap) dime. It is a fasces. Look it up. It’s a type of weapon with characteristics that are analogous to the term “ e Pluribus unum”. Fascinating stuff! Check it out!

Interesting fact: The reverse of Mercury dimes depicts a (Fasces) which is an image of a axe bound with wooden sticks. The basic symbolism meaning is Strength Through Unity.
The origins of the Fasces predate the Roman Empire. The story of the Fasces is said to be told by Aesop, a slave and story teller believed to have lived in Ancient Greece between 620 and 564 BCE. The fable is called An old man and his sons. The story goes...An old man has a number of sons who constantly quarrel with each other. As he nears death he calls them to him and gives them an object lesson in the need for unity. Having bound a bundle of sticks together (or in other accounts either spears or arrows), he asks his sons to break them. Melt value is $1.23 as of this morning. They made over 60,000,000 of the S that year some it’s not rare. Blue book says $5 to $15 in mint state.

Your also Blind.Mercury Dimes started at the Mints in 1916.If your Dime is dated 1890 then it is a Seated Liberty Dime.

Just bought 6 rolls of dimes from my bank, 3 rolls were all mercury dimes and the other 3 were all pre 65 roosevelt dimes. 6 full rolls of 90% silver for $30...probably never happen again!

The object on the reverse of the winged liberty dime is not a torch. It is a depiction of an ancient Roman device called a "fasces". From the Wikipedia, here is a definition: "This is an ancient Imperial Roman symbol of power carried by lictors in front of magistrates; a bundle of sticks featuring an axe, indicating the power over life and death. This lost its charm after Benito Mussolini formed the National Fascist Party in the 1920's, this inspired Hitler. After the war, the design was changed not just to honor FDR, but to expunge the symbol from our coinage. However, a huge depiction hangs in the senate chamber, but as an Homage to the Roman Senate of old.
