    My students always find it very useful when we learn new expressions like: 'Please find attached', 'To whom it may concern', 'Looking forward to hearing from you', because at school they're only taught the basic expressions like 'dear sir or madame', 'yours sincerely' etc:)

    "look forward to" is an expression that Always is followed by a GERUND.
    This is an expression that you can use when you wait something because you want that thing happen.
    For example: I am looking forward to talking with you.
    It is also used to formal letters to be polite: I am looking forward to hearing from you.
    Just remember after the expression "looking forward to" the verb that follow it is always a Gerund.

    In this situation, to forward = to pass something to someone/people
    I have received an email from Helen and now I forward it to John.
    Does it mean I REsend it to John? um...I guess I only have to PASS it to him.
    forward =/= resend
    If I sent John an email, but he could receive it for some reason, I would REsend that email to him.

    HELP!!!
    Why is correct to say "I look forward to hearing from you" instead of "I look forward to hear from you" or something different that can make more sense grammatically? Thanks in advance.

    • @safaasabri3281
      @safaasabri3281 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Meredith
      The correct form is : “ LOOKING forward to hearing from you”
      Or “ I LOOK forward to hearing from you.
      preposition always comes with ING. if you add An I then the verbs won’t need ING, yet, you still need ING after to.

      @paschoaleder 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      With all due respect, let me disagree with your concern, because the meaning of the word 'hesitate' is combined with the adverb of denial 'do not'. Therefore, both words mean 'go ahead' (I am excited for your reply).

    I think I'm pretty good with writing to the point emails but it's still a very intimidating task for me to do because I feel like there's just such a high demand for everything to be absolutely perfect with the stakes being even higher when you are talking to strangers.

    I have an additional information. In formal emails, it would be more professional to say thanks at the end instead of best wishes. If in case you don’t have a Freind relationship or strong one! So using thanks at this stage will be better. Correct me if this is a mistake please.
