    called the jc-22 for two reasons. jc-30 sounds too much like ac-30, so they used the rms power value; 30/√2 rounds up to 22W

    Billy Duffy from The Cult has been using the Jazz Chorus for his clean tones for ages. Once you explained the Dimensional Chorus effect I immediately recognised this as the Billy Duffy tone that I've loved for decades. Cheers for a great in depth review. These amps really are the benchmark for solid state cleans.

    • @jAMMAN798
      @jAMMAN798  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Very true! I was also amazed to learn that Hetfield and Hammett (Metallica) used to use the JC120 for their clean tone and sometimes dirty tone (pedals through it) on stage and in the recording studio.

    • @JammyGit
      @JammyGit 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This Roland or the Boss Katana though Tim? That sounds pretty good for cleans too from the demos I've heard.
      I know that this has the stereo feature but I'm not sure about those 6 inch speakers. I am slightly tempted to get 1 or the other because I have my Laney valve amp but it'd be nice to get something different too for when the mood takes me.

    My first amp in 1978 was the JC-120. It became a 40 year companion- amazing sound -very heavy amp I would lug it up/down 3rd floor stairway when going to rehearsals, gigs. Due to chronic illness I had to sell it a few years ago - but am looking at getting the JC-22 whenever I get better- Thx for the video! Cheers from Germany 🇩🇪

    I appreciate you playing examples with the room mic only. I know everyone wants to hear close mic examples because the sound quality is better, but you can’t get an accurate idea of what an amp sounds like in person if it’s close miked. A lot of small amps sound really boxy and terrible in person, but sound big and full if close miked, so I like demos that do both.

It loves my distortion pedals and sounds fantastic at any volume. I recommend it for home playing in any genre of music; just get the pedals that fit your chosen genres. • @Aarlog
    @Aarlog 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's called the JC-22 because Roland already made an amp called the JC-20 in the early 90's. Like the 22 it was a cut-down JC120, but it was cut down in different ways; The chorus was simply toggled on or off with no control over its settings, it lacked reverb, and it came with 5 inch speakers instead of 6.5 inch. Though it has the JC120 distortion in place of reverb, so take that as you will.

    I've had this amp for about 10 months. I use it now as my main practice and small gig amp. When I first plugged into it, I just used the standard setting and thought nothing more about exploring it. The clean sound is awesome, and the EQ settings can be tweaked to anyone's style. I play mostly jazz/pop/soul blend of music. I play an Ibanez George Benson, Fender Strat (w/ Noiseless pups), a Gibson ES-275, and other hollowbodies. I really love this amp, and now love it even more since I discovered I can get the full stereo feel if I turn the chorus depth setting on only slightly, as well as the Speed, maybe to 1. Yes, the bass is reduced, but this can easily be compensated by just adding more bass. The results are amazing. The sound is really big for such a small amp. Don't let the size fool you, it's good enough for a gig at a small venue. I add a Boss delay pedal for extra effects. This one's a keeper! :)

      @@crazywisdom2 I think for my use, this amp has been fantastic. I wrote this comment a year ago and this JC22 is still my go to amp. The JC22 is a 30 watt amp, despite the 22 in the name. Super little amp. I went into my local looking for a compact amp for home, aiming for something a bit different to my Cube 20. I fully expected to walk out with a Fender GT40 or some sort of modelling amp like that. Shop guy was smart, set me up to play this one first. Crystal clear cleans, nice reverb and the dimensional chorus is pretty special. I also tried what I intended looking at and walked out with the JC-22. For me the tone and simplicity won over software and gizmos. Try one sometime.

    I believe that Roland had released a JC-30 many years ago and it was a single speaker configuration and also they also had a JC-20 that was similar in size to the JC-22. My guess is they chose JC-22 to have a unique product name an avoid confusion.

      Does JC amps has more hiss than Deluxe? Do you think JC22 with Strymon Flint tremolo and reverb could nail that fender tone?

    • @dioricergy6931

      MegaCrasherMusic in bedroom setting with low volume the noise is noticeable and cannot be used for clean recording. I don't gig a lot so I started to think to replace it if that setup could work decently.

    I'd love to get either this or the JC-40. I like this for the size. It would come down to which one I could find for a good deal used.

    One trick perhaps. When you use the SM57 to record both HPs, the best way to send the sound is to make sure you pan pot mikes on Right and left side of your stereo sound being sent. If the listener is using a headset, it might not change anything. But is the user uses monitors, then he/she will benefit of the same Dimensional effect.

    What song is that intro? Great amp, what an amazing sound, finally a good review on the jc 22, man i wanna buy it... Also, they call it a jc 22, because the name would be to similar to a vox ac 30. Ac, Jc... far to close for comfort. I also wish you'd do a gut shot of the amp in detail.

    Just Yesterday i played IT in musicstore with a Fender Jaguar, i played some the smiths, Johnny Marr and Morrissey stuff and was just in heaven. The only reason i haven't grabbed IT IS that i'm thinking about If the jc 40 is even the better choice.

    What a great little amp. I thought I needed its bigger brother, but I don't think I do. As for the JC-30 name, I think perhaps it was copyrighted by another company.

    Even Paul Weller in the Jam used a Roland with Dementianol chorus but swapped it for a peavey backstage with a Marshall stack..mental sound. Like the nifty size, good 4 recording in small spaces. Get 2 and get a Quadraphonic effect!

    I was trying to decide between a JC 40, and the JC 22. I figured the jc40 is still going to sit in the corner of the room on a little stand, and the 22 is going to have to sit on a table so they're going to take up about the same amount of room. But in your review it definitely was loud enough if that was my only concern. I guess the chances of me playing out are pretty small so, I guess it doesn't really matter too much. Thanks for the review

    Recently downgraded from a JC-40 to a JC-22 due to it resonating through my entire apartment so my neighbors could hear. 😅 People out here talking about how big difference there is when it’s only 10W. This one was just perfect. Still super loud though so I can’t really crank it to max. Perfect studio amp for shoegaze.

    • @VevozoneTV
      @VevozoneTV 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DaFake Just a slight difference in volume, but I never needed to crank the JC-40 past 2 when recording with the line-out. The JC-22 needs to be cranked a little bit higher to reach the same volume, but never past 5 (50% volume). Hope it helps! 🙏
