You are incredible! Thank you deeply from my heart for sharing it! I’m preparing for Caucasian hike in Georgia and your story + your gear list are very inspiring and helpful! Thank you!!!! 😍
Hi Richard Love the videos really great stuff 👍😃 would love to see a navigational video if you get the chance? PS can’t wait to see some content on your trek over the alps 👍😃
Just discovered the channel and have quickly got through all the videos; can't wait for the videos of this trip to come out and am amazed the channel isn't bigger with content as good as this.
Thanks so much for uploading this Richard. I've been looking forward to hearing more about your walk and will be delighted if you are able to upload footage.
Great channel showing some beautiful places, would be interested in what you have to say about that little tracking device. The apps I have on my phone is "windy maps" and "what 3 word" you may find them interesting.
Interesting to compare this to your HRP loadout! I have the Kumo 36 also and feel like adding two waterproof external pockets on the sides (where the strings attach) just to have more instant accessibility, I find myself having to open the main bag way too often. A four day carry with a "prepared for all" setup seems to hit its limit. That Gaia app and the strap on tripod got on my list, thanks!
Hey Richard, great video, I really like how you explain everything very precise! Keep up the good work! I do have a question about packing and planning, it's about a trip to the Romanian Carpathians. I'm planning to go there next summer. I know you've already been there, so I would love to get some helpful info/tips and tricks. Greetings from the Netherlands
Cheers Henk! There’s an amazing navigation app with all the romanian topo maps on called munții noștri. It also has trails listed with length/difficulty etc :)
One suggestion for Romania is to begin or end at Baile Herculane, nice town which is South West of Retezat at the western end of the Carpathians. There are marked trails between Herculane and Retezat. Easy train journey there from Timisoara which has good train and air connections and is a great city. Learning some Romanian will really help, it's close to Italian.
Hey Richard, great Video! I was just wondering how the Petzl Leopard Crampons fit on Trailrunning shoes? I was thinking about getting them for my Trailrunners but am concerned that the white binding at the heel would end up higher than the top of the shoe. Did you have this Problem at all? :)
Cheers! I’ve never had that problem myself, but have only worn them with the peregrine 5’s, maybe other shoes have a lower heel. I’ve always found them super comfy!
Nah I didn’t bring anything for bears. I’d make noise in the forests so that they could hear me coming, and I’d sleep on my food bag since they are scared of being hunted by people. It worked out fine! I saw quite a few tracks but never any bears.
Unreal, 36 litre bag that weighed 6kg? Thats amazing for what you did!
I've been waiting two years for this video -- and of course the videos of the trek. Thanks for finally posting. Great content.
Thanks for watching/waiting!
Same here
I kept checking for Caucasian one 😉

Thanks! The inreach mini was great. Battery life was pretty good and the weather reports were a big help when I had no phone service!

I’ve since sewn a stretchy bottom pocket onto my kumo and that’s helped add a bit more capacity and easy access to waterproofs/gloves etc :)
@@RichardHartfield That's a great idea, easily in reach while walking too, awesome! What have you been up to, any new videos coming?

I’ve got some big trips in the pipeline but nothing super long this year! :)

How did you communicate on your trip? You probably would have to speak a certain degree of russian, right? Thanks for your video
Yeah I spent a good few months before I left learning Russian. I only got the basics down but it was a massive help. And thanks! :)
Thank you for sharing. Wonderful. To all us armchair-traveller - wage-slaves, this is bread from heaven :)
Haha! Happy to provide the service! :D
Hi
I would be interested to know what GPS app you found best for your phone and for the Gr11 please
Huge thanks
He Stephen. I’ve mainly used Gaia GPS (covered in some detail at the end of this video) but Locus Maps is also great if you have an android phone.
@@RichardHartfield thank you - can't wait to have a go at the Gr11!
@@stephenlake6020 have fun! :)
Didn't you take some sort of bear spray or protection? Did you wind up encountering any bears at all? I remember you bumped into some fresh tracks
Nah I didn’t bring anything for bears. I’d make noise in the forests so that they could hear me coming, and I’d sleep on my food bag since they are scared of being hunted by people. It worked out fine! I saw quite a few tracks but never any bears.
