      yeah if used correctly lol agreed, that writer caused a heavy atmosphere with nothing beneficial, really turdsed it up. I don't see people going "yeah I'm glad he made that point", the writer was SOFT as well as BRITTLE.

    Look up the Monty Python sketch, "The Silliest Sketch We've Ever Done". Breaking the fourth wall and just stopping the sketch was actually part of the sketch, just like here.

    He didn't actually break character. Why would he then go to the window in view of the camera and argue with her? This was clearly planned.

    There was a Christmas skit where they were forced to break character, because the animal took a crap in the middle of a sketch. i wanted to know how it was suppose to really go xD

      Funnily enough, Debra Wilson was also in the middle there and also given commentary about Phil/Nicole expected better from her. Though in that one they played fictional versions of themselves from the beginning while Phil only kayfabe breaks character near the end.

    Oh. I get how it’s funny. Phil is confused about the way his boss said “handle his nuts” he thinks he’s referring to his privates. But the boss is actually referring to the nut division for his chocolate candy factory.

    Before Phil broke character I, myself, was questioning whether that brand of comedy was worthy of MadTV. They did not disappoint after all. Of course.

    @mjp9mm I think it's pretty obvious that Phil's actually breaking character. You could see the split moment of awkward silence when he stormed out of the set. Could it be that this was the reason why he left MadTV? Nevertheless, Debra and the other actor handled the problem brilliantly... Wow!
