37:50 I love what you’re saying here. I agree, the language used and arguments made are in an attempt to achieve our goals! Personally, I go further and speculate that the “goal” most people have in mind is getting others (either the interlocutor, the audience, or both) to behave in certain ways that tend to fulfill the speaker’s desires. The way to change behaviors is by changing their beliefs, their desires, or both. Which is why they may use different rhetorical methods interchangeably.
Hi Lance. Re the thing about rambling. Yeah it's a stream and relaxed and unscripted etc. But on the other hand, 12 minutes in, nothing happened yet! I'll stick around, I like philosophy and I like you and your approach. But a bit less rambling and a bit more getting to the point would probably be good. (To be clear, tangents and some degree of rambling ABOUT PHILOSOPHY can be good.) Hope you take this in the way I meant it -- a friendly suggestion for engaging more people. Keep it up and congrats on the new job.
No, this is a stream. It's casual. There isn't any particular point to get to, so calling it rambling doesn't make much sense. I had a good time talking to people in the chat and I think they had a good time too. I like what I did here, and I'm not going to apologize for it or change it because people would prefer scripted content or something more focused. I do that too but that's just not the sole function of a stream.
I do appreciate the feedback. I just don't agree with it. Re rambling about philosophy, specifically: why? There are other topics of Interest and sometimes it could be a value to connect with your audience on topics other than philosophy. If I keep having conversations that discourage people from coming back and they don't I'll adjust accordingly adjust accordingly but I wasn't noticing a big drop if I'm talking about more casual topics.
I like the potential t-shirt designs you shared for the most part. I feel like we could have fun with the normative entanglement premise..maybe a little too much fun
On ideas to improve the video/audio quality for acquiring more subscribers, could you become comfortable with putting the mic closer to your face? I remember in one video you commented on this and you spoke closer to the microphone; it sounded much better but you stated that you just don't like being that close to the microphone, if I remember correctly. Your audio, currently, isn't horrible, but it does sound like you have a slight hall reverb on it LOL. It's just another one of those factors that can give the product that nice quality polish.
@@lanceindependent If you want to. I don't care for being recognized but maybe it will inspire more people to support. Like tossing some bills into the tip jar before busking. Not sure about the evidence on that though lol. It's up to you.
Where did y'all get the impression that Matthew is good at philosophy? I don't really know who he is but in the handful of videos I've seen him in he's had lazy, sloppy thinking.

You already did a moral realism tier list with Kane B.
I know lol

I remember reading about a meta ethical view based on speech act theory which seems close to ur view
I'd be interested in knowing what it was!
Reviewing a video from Mike Israetel? The Renaissance Periodization guy? He has philosophy videos, or am I missing something?
He has a video on moral realism.
@@lanceindependent Interesting. I'll check it out.
