My favorite mother's day gift from my husband was a handwritten letter about how much he appreciation he had for how I raised our boys and took care of him after his accident. I have never felt so incredibly loved and appreciated more than that letter.

I am not a present person. I don't really like getting things, so eons ago when I had my first kid I asked my husband to just redo the flower bed. Now every year I get some sort of renewal or replacement of the flowers, or a new sapling, or bush planted, and every year I get to enjoy looking at until it gets too cold. For me it's truly the best of any gift thru the whole year. I realize that can't work for everyone, so if you're looking for an indoor option I recommend a Flaming Katy in a pretty (handmade?) pot for gifting. They're nearly impossible to kill, and can be easily coaxed into reblooming any time you want.
I agree. I’d rather spend time doing something than get a gift. To me, that shows more care. Gifts are low on my love language list.
@@lovinglife3954 Gifts are low on everybody’s love language list unless they have Venus or Sun in Leo. If you are an acts of service person you have venus in an earth sign or an earth house.
But at the same time, gifts are very important for Mother’s Day no matter the love language. The flower bed is a wonderful gift/act of service combo.

I love that! I ask for tomato plants for Valentine’s Day. That’s usually when it doesn’t freeze anymore. And my son remembers every year to plant a couple.
My Dad has always made it a point to make Mother's day special, like even after the divorce he would come over and help us cook my Mom breakfast until we were old enough to do it by ourselves. This year I am flying out to see her for a week, that way I can cook her breakfast and get her flowers and all that good stuff.
Gotta respect a divorced dad who still teaches his children to value their mother.

My dad was so horrible about gifts that my mom always bought what she wanted, wrapped it, and put his name on the tag. He joked it was always nice to see what he got her every time when she opened it.
Not only did my dad used to do that when he was alive but he made it a point that all of us do that for mother on Mother's Day.

Cherish your mom is great advice. I had mine until she was 95 and I was 57. It’s been 7 months and I miss her support, kindness, thoughtfulness, empathy, perseverance, and humor tremendously. I’m grateful to have had both my parents into their 90s, married 71 years, and I’m so glad I did cherish them. And become their friend.

I guess I'm weird....I'm not my husband's mother. He has a mom. Getting stuff from HIM on Mother's day is creepy, so I told him to stop after the second one. Just help the kid get something for me until she's old enough to do it herself.

A little tip that I use. Set a "Reminder" in your iPhone and have it repeat annually. I do the same for Birthdays and everything else. Everyone asks how I remembered, and I don't tell them my phone told me.
Is Mother's day in America the same date each year? Because I haven't worked out how to set an annual reminder to cope with the fluctuating date in the UK.
@@malcolmrowe9003 no. It’s the second Sunday. My phone alarm can do that. Yours is based on lent, so it varies wildly. And comes up unexpectedly if you don’t care about lent.

Mother's day this year is also our anniversary and baby dedication day at church. Our little one will just barely be 2 weeks old by then, and family is coming in for it.
Mother's day is on my birthday this year. All I want from my husband and my kids this year is a bath, a nap and time to read. Simple inexpensive gifts.
That sounds ideal to me! My birthday was in February and I asked for an afternoon off. Hubby was super sweet and gave me the whole day!

A couple years ago my granddaughter made me a Mother’s Day card. Because we are ethnically Polish, she went on Google and wrote a card in Polish using Google translate.
Mother's Day for me is like a second birthday in that I get an extra 30 minutes in bed while my hubs cooks breakfast. I put that extra sleep to good use when I clean up the mess afterwards. Lol.

I never surprise my mom, I talk to her first. Also, I don't usually give her a present, but I plan a nice day for us. 2 years ago we went to have breakfast at a really nice place, followed by a spa day, ending in dinner. We still need to do last years trip. This year I'm taking her to the botanic garden in our region. Depending on what will be possible by that time we will have breakfast before / cake after the visit there. And I'm probably getting her some flowers.
Experiences keep people feeling happy much longer than objects, so yes, excursions or luxury times - and photos! My mom probably won’t travel overseas again but all her photos are on a cycling screen saver so when she’s chatting on Zoom she’ll interrupt to say stuff like, “Oh, that’s the 3 of us in that little alley with all the flowers in Nice!” and we can see her pleasure. Of course it happens when she’s using her computer on her own; we just see it on the weekly family Zoom (old, not dumb - pandemic tech is hers to conquer, with a little help from her kids😉)

Not that I don’t like thoughtful, practical gifts, but I think sadly, our world has become all about gifts for every possible occasion. It’s a little ridiculous! Push presents, Easter gifts (not talking egg hunt here), kindergarten graduation, you name it-there’s “supposed” to be a gift for it. 🤷🏻♀️🙄

Just kidding, it was way better. It was *2* paper towels folded into a card with "It is mother's day" on the front and "You are a mother. Have a day." written on the inside.

What my husband does for Mother's Day is what we do for Father's Day. So we do nothing. And I'm OK with that. They're pretty dang sweet to me all year round.

My worst Mother’s Day gift was two gerbils that ended up being a mom and dad gerbils to a gerbil population explosion. I don’t know why he thought I’d want gerbils, oh and this was just two months after giving birth so it was my first Mother’s Day gift ever.

Technically since they’re using a plural version mothers, in which the day belongs to them all. The apostrophe would come after the “s”, so it would be Mothers’ Day.

@@sonja2446 however when you have a highly discerning and refined mother and you are not in the same tax bracket in your pocketbook does not agree with this then that can present major problems. You get the best that you can afford that you think she wants but she doesn't like it anyway because it's beneath her. This is no longer my issue thank goodness but when I was in my twenties and in my early thirties it was a serious point of stress for me because my pocketbook did not agree with what she would want and like.

Not gonna lie....yesterday i literally told my husband I wanted an air plant hanging thing.
I have a harder time shopping for men....it's like....gift cards (restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, coffee places, sometimes Home Depot/Lowes) and food from other countries. What do you buy men?? The men in my life don't drink or golf or grill. The fanciest gift I ever gave my dad was two baseball tickets I won from a raffle at work...I will say he loved that, though.
I have a hard time too. I just got my boyfriend his first ever Easter basket this past Easter. His family is of a religion that doesn’t celebrate or believe in it & also grew up poor(he’s almost 24).
I feel like its so individual for guys. Like, maybe we have to put so much thought into it because it can’t be a bunch of flowers. LOL. Does he read? Does he need a tool? Does he like going new places? It’s a lot of thought into each person we gift to. I do wish there was a standard “flowers” equivalent!

As a mom all I want for Mother’s Day is tons of hugs and kisses from my kids that morning and them to tell me how much they love me! I’ll tell them how much I love them! Then I want a spa day away from my kids. My spa package would include a massage or five. Maybe a nice golf game alone or with my husband. That sounds perfect!
PS Don’t mom shame me. I’m a stay at home that homeschools my kids (a one year old and a five year old) plus I’m pregnant. I’m with them 24/7. I wouldn’t feel bad leaving them for a day!
