What you’re doing is so good Megan. As a child of an immigrant my mom refused to speak in our language. She thought that speaking English to us is better. Thank God I grew up with my grandmother so I could speak my language a bit but my siblings are completely lost. It’s now that as an adult I’m trying to learn how to speak my mother tongue
It's not your mother tongue if not your first language. More like, language of your people. I'm glad you are learning, I stopped speaking Spanish when 12 for similar reasons and am relearning as an adult.
@@nessie4215 no.. your first language is the language you learnt most and mother tongue is what your family or people of your heritage speak. Your mother tongue can be your first language but not always :)
Yeah. In Korea English learning is important so all the Korean family members keep telling me to speak only English to them haha. I sometimes forget and speak Korean 😂😂😂
@@KassandraPerU mate, first language, native tongue, and mother tongue are interchangeable. It is usually called mother tongue because you learn from your mother and it is their first language. But there is nothing wrong with recognizing there is a separation between you and your mother's mother tongue. I had to do it when I lost my Spanish. If you don't believe me regarding the meaning, you can legit just look it up.

I’m bilingual, my mom would only talk to me in Spanish since I was born, she said school would teach me English 😂 hey it worked
Basically. That’s why I don’t use Korean with them anymore haha. So I’m forgetting my Korean since I speak English to the babies all day hahaha
@@MrsMeganMoon I’m very fluent, now my daughters I’m ashamed to say I don’t speak it to them as much as I should 🤣🤫but my mom literally only talks to them as well only in Spanish, so they understand everything in Spanish but they would answer in English so I’m working on them talking Spanish as well, they are still young 5 and 4

I'm bilingual too thanks to my parents. They knew we were going to be fluent in english since we live in an english speaking country but they also knew we would lose the mother tongue so they were wise enough to speak to us in their language at home. Now my kids, their grandkids speak both languages as well!! 🙌
There is a book for children you might be interested to ! Its title is "Kim Imani: the Girl made of magic". And it happens to be about a mixed little girl (Black and Korean). The author wrote it both in English and Korean. 😊

I can’t believe the babies are going to be a year old already! Isn’t it, in Korea, they will be actually 2 years old? I just love watching them play around in their space. It’s really good for them to be able to explore the whole play area on their own. They develop so much at this stage. ❤️
In Korean age they are already 2 years old (as of Jan 1, 2023).

@@Theherbalempress I finally stopped being lazy and googled lol. according to a BBC article, it will end in June of this year. I do wonder what this will mean for other systems dependent on age like school enrollments, jobs and licenses since someone can lose as much as 2 years off their age.
Teaching the beautiful babies to be bilingual is awesome. You had great teachers at home to give you such a beautiful heart. Doing things with all the grandparents together is going to be awesome. In their age group you should ask Mr. Moon parent to show them the culture of their own age group. Then add the children to the mix once they get use to your parents by going to a kids show filming of that nature.
Your teaching experience really has given you a wonderful life girl! You have embrace the Korean culture and still most definitely kept your southern culture. The babies have great parents. They look so healthy and happy. Luna is a mom’s girl for real. You will be the best role model for her.

There’s an app called Beelinguapp. It has a lot of stories on there ranging from children’s books to advanced stories in Korean and English. I recommend it for reading and listening practice. You can also pick up a ton of new vocabulary.
They're so smart and precious! Growing like wildflowers! Cherish them small ... they change from wildflowers to tall trees and then birds that fly the nest all to quickly!

They’re so precious. I like that they were engaged with the reading most especially when you made the “cuucuu” sound. It will help them talk and understand words much faster as you read to them. ❤️

Family video ideas: 1 your parents and your in-laws sing childhood songs (like English ones and Korean ones). 2 Video of 1 year old photo shoot. 3 Family babysits while you and mr moon go on a date (some footage of babysitting chaos and some of you and mr moon reconnecting on your date maybe talking about how you feel being new parents at the 1 year mark). 4 Family visit to a park or like other kid friendly place all together (could be a family picnic, or a family walk in a beautiful setting). 5 Making a family meal together. 6 family mini vacation (might be too pricey but everyone could visit maybe like a cabin/campsite for a night or something). 7 spa date (maybe you, your mom, your mother in law, your sister take a break and go to a spa together or even do a stay at home spa! Can talk about mother-daughter bond now that you’re forming one with your daughter). 8 maybe family supporting babies while they do something new (have they been swimming/in a pool yet?). 9 your parents could talk about differences they notice between raising babies in Korea vs USA. 10 any national holidays coming up? I think for video ideas... everybody would go for seeing a compilation of the babies laughing and what makes them happy. I think it would be nice for you to keep for the memories too.

I have been studying Korean by myself. As a matter of fact, I am going to the bookstore tomorrow to pick up some basic Korean vocabulary books to help me with my studies. It’s so sweet seeing how focused and intrigued they are by you reading! It’s also so nice being able to see the joy each baby gets from having a friend to play with. My son was so shy and only liked destroying his book at your kids age and he still doesn’t like the feel of fruits in his hands or mouth. You and Mr Moon are doing an amazing job at raising the twins, they’re developing amazingly! 😍

So I'm trying to learn Japanese and one thing that I learned along the way is reading children's books really really helps a lot when it comes to like trying to learn the language. The reason for that is that sometimes simple words could be completely lost to you until you're actually reading them in a kids book and then it's like oh wow and then you kind of make those connections. it's kind of funny. I love that you're trying something semi new and trying to read to them. It's definitely helping them make connections and it's also definitely helping you make connections too. Lol. They are so cute.
A video idea is the parents sampling popular Korean snacks, potato chips, foods and drinks/ beers.

Honestly bilingual books are a great way to learn a language. People sleep on children's books but you can learn a lot of vocab that way!
Something I remember my friend saying was to just keep reading. They might seem distracted, but they're still listening. 😉 She was raising her kids to be bilingual in Japan.

Kids books are a great language learning too, especially for second language learners. It's pretty freaking awesome that you're reading to them in both English and Korean.

They were so attentive when you began reading to them. Ru Bin particularly looked at the pictures and then at you as you spoke. You all might want to get some touching books for Lu Na. That might hold her attention longer.

You should do a bilingual video of your babies. Think of everyday words that they would know only in English or Korean and speak it to them in the other language.
And it's also wonderful that you are reading to them because they get to hear your voice see your face and watch your facial expression All of that is very useful For kids Especially kids that are interracial Because daddy looks a lot like them so sorry girl So when Daddy speaks Korean it flows easy Now with you they see this woman Features here texture skin and lips Speaking Korean and they are very attentive and impressed and they get to hear your voice Read Korean So you are doing A great great job Mom's job is never done

I love seeing the babies playing, just doing what they do. Love the teaching animal sounds, numbers, making them laugh…it’s such a short phase, this baby phase. Everything they do iand learn is interesting!
I think it's great teaching the babies both languages. In my house we speak fluent Arabic and Spanish and Native is English.

I'm sure they probably don't do this in Korea but I've found not all Americans know about it either. Are you familiar with your Golden Birthday? It's the day you were born so say you were born on the 17th of x month, you'd celebrate your golden birthday when you turn 17. My family and friends all did those and I always thought it was so neat, assuming you weren't born between like the 1st - 7th, cuz then you probably wouldn't remember it. Just thought you might like to know about it, if you didn't already 😁
