Usually you need proper work permit and visa to enter ireland. For insurance you need to get an medical type which you can buy once your work permit and visa granted. All the best!

Basically country is really good and friendly people. But may be my bad luck those incidents happened.
But to be aware I would say try to keep cards ( no cash ) , don't react and answer immediately in those conditions.
Try to take some help from local people or call Garda. That's it..
