Some brilliant goals there. I remember that United vs WBA game as a young boy. I'm a United fan but what a striker Cyrille Regis was. RIP

@@robertdore9592 My first season too in the Brummie as an 11 year old watching awe at the talent. My idol back then was Willie Johnston, he owned that left wing. I'm very biased but I'd have chosen Cyrille's goal.
The move started deep inside the half we were defending.Great game which I was lucky enough to be at,don't think due to my age at the time I appreciated how good a side we had.
Liverpool won the league but our chances were ruined by a terrible winter and fixture pile up(they had undersoil heating)
    21 matches between March 12th and May 18th and only used 14 players.Finished 3rd.
    Boing Boing!

watching Brian Moore and all these great footballers should make all of us born in late 1950s and early 1960s very happy that we have seen the best there was to see in football and life in general as well. We had childhoods where we were told to be home before dark. We became teenagers with the best cars and the greatest era of rock in 1960s and 70s. We should all remember the great life we have been privy to before we start to complain about what we see today in this 'woke', 'pc' world. We were the lucky generation............

Classic video of the last great decade of English football, the 1970s.
Brian Moore's beautiful comb-over, digital watch, kipper-tie, rotary phone. And almost all the players were from the UK or Ireland. Great days.

The 78-79 season was the first full season I watched as a nipper. Got the football bug watching the World Cup in 78 when Argentina won it. I remember both the Liverpool vs Spurs game and the United vs West Brom games....made me fall head over heals in love with Football. Not sure if it is me but I really dont like the game at the high level now....too much hype, too many cossetted players who seem to lack their own style and charisma....too many glory hunters who support global sports brands and not their local clubs....tickets now sold at too high a price to tourists and day trippers pricing out the working man....this is why the passion has drained from the game....rant over!

matthew coombs You are absolutely right, I can remember coming home from an Arsenal game one evening and seeing Graham Rix and Alan Sunderland on the train on the way home, also how many of those goals were created/scored because players stayed on their feet and rode a challenge instead of going down as if they'd been shot as soon as the opposing player got within a couple of feet.

Football was magical back then, the players (lots of whom were local lads),the muddy pitches, collecting the stickers, the mags(shoot and Match weekly), Subbuteo, playing footy for the school and every waking minute with your mates. Going to games and watching your local team, mainly with your dad. Happy days, glad I did it back then.

They were defeated by fixture congestion.
That winter was harsh, games rearranged and they had about a 16 man squad at most.
They were dead on their feet by the end of the season.
      Sports science was non existent.
Steak meals, fish a d chips and a night on the lash was standard, along with pitches that resembled pachendale and brutal tackling, defenders "allowed one" and sliding and tackles from behind permitted plus provided you got the ball you wouldn't get called out for a foul.

Thank you for adding this.Reminds me of my childhood, watching The Big Match.I was only 10 years old in 79,much prefered the game then.I agree with previous comments,Football today is full of plastics,Wags, diva players, zero loyalty to their clubs, stupid wages paid, awful attitudes by players. So glad i was able to see the era of late 70s and early 80s.Brian Moore was brilliant, must say two great goals by WBA,RIP L.CUNNINGHAM,from a WHUFC FAN

It was ! Pelting down the wing, barely looked up, left foot, ball bounced slightly awkwardly as he hit at full stride straight onto the head of TMcD. Deffo one of my al ltime favourite goals from an era when I truly loved football. Don't watch footie at all now.

2 Baggies goals in the Top 6. Both in the same match, the 3-5 win at Old Trafford, one of the best games ever. A game full of great goals. There are full highlights for that match on y/t. Take 10 minutes and watch them.

10 minutes well spent. As usual, the West Brom Board didn't follow through with that team. They sold the 'crown jewells of Robson, Cunningham and let Atkinson and Addison leave too...FFS.

@whitbyjet65 So true! Commentators today need to learn that sometimes less is more - they don't need to be talking all the time, let the football do the talking. Half the 'experts' talk complete crap and are just filling space that doesn't need filling.

I still remember that McDermott goal. Front to back in a flash. I believe it was the final goal in Liverpool's 7-0 drubbing of Spurs. My Dad always loved Curry's goal though. The bend on the ball was back when the footballs were still hand stitched leather. they weren't made light like the ball of todays PL. Bending the ball like that was some trick in those days. Great trip down memory lane.
