Very clever idea with the carrier application. Genius🤓. Top stitching them on at their thickest is 9 layer.😮
haha, right? Omg, my machine would be crying!
This is great information on how you managed to complete the coat. Thank you for sharing your tips!
I was so excited to see you in your completed coat in my YT feed. What a beauty. And so many excellent tips in this video. When you pulled out the clapper, I was so happy. Those tools and tips are the difference between good and great. Grading the seams, the hem interfacing, the clapper. Well done. 🏆
Oh thank you! After paying for 5 yards of fabric, I definitely wanted it to be the best coat it could be. lol
I love ❤️ your coat, especially the maxi length. I viewed the process from beginning to end with you.....thanks for the seam grading tips! I am ordering a wood clapper like, right now! Perfect timing to wear your coat this season, right? I live in the Houston area and it is cold today!!!! Happy Sewing!!
YAY! Thanks for following along during the process. You're going to enjoy the clapper. Great tool for so many projects!!
Your coat is beautiful and looks beautiful!
You said you made a size 24 wide, for years I thought the W size meant that it was women's, not wide!😢
Hey Resa - I stand corrected! It stands for “women” 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
Wow we! That coat is absolutely beautiful!😊❤ Thank you for sharing! So many great tips! And it looks gorgeous on you!😊
Thank you so much Michele!! Thanks for watching, glad the tips were helpful.
Great job! It looks amazing! I definitely want to make it. Living in Houston tho, I wouldn’t wear it often…except for like NOW! LOL
LOL, right? It's a "once a year" (or every couple of years) type of coat.
Great job, you could have called that an intro to tailoring. The hem, the clapper, the grading of seams……from a high schooler who didn’t see the need to finish a neckline, (your last video) to a wonderfully made coat. One thing I might add is to press all seams open before grading or turning and topstitching. It makes it even flatter faster. Especially wool, which will do your will with these tools and techniques. I love working with wool. And even been working with a wool poly blend, the wool still behaves the same way, and I treat it the same. Well done, indeed. ❤
Thank you for the compliment. I hadn't really thought that I was doing any sort of tailoring but I'll take it, haha. But yes, agreed open seams are the way to go.
Excellent job. Loved the tips regarding grading and using the clapper.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks Robyn!
It turned out beautifully thanks for sharing
Thank you! 😊
Amazing work Raven x one of those “thanks I made it” masterpieces x enjoy wearing it. It looks amazing on you
thank you so much!! Appreciate your kind words.
Thank you so much for this detailed review!!! I just finally got this pattern an I'm starting to plan the eventual project. Quick question about sizes... It sounds like you chose the size based on the "body" measurements, with 2" of extra ease in the circumference. Knowing that this pattern also has a bunch of ease built into the finished measurements as well, what do you think about the size you chose? How much ease is in your finished coat? Thanks so much!!
Hey, thanks for watching! I’m more than happy with the ease which I believe is around 2-3 inches. That’s honestly what I wanted so I can wear layers underneath
Love the coat! Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for watching!
Great job Raven.
Thanks Zelda!

Not sure I'm up for that challenging of a sew right now, but good to hear from someone who made it. Yours looks great!

We're did you purchase your lining and interfqce.
Hey Angie - my lining is from Fine Fabrics (same place I got the wool) and my interfacing is from Mood: www.moodfabrics.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=interfacing
What interfacing did you use?

Great tips, where did you find MiMi G’s video for her coat?
It was a mini tutorial on her IG and Simplicity IG about the carriers.
Oh wow this coat really turned out great! I’m chomping at the bit to sew a coat but this one may not be the best option for a first timer. Any thoughts? Thanks for sharing 😊
You can do it! There's a sew along for this coat - but I also have a video on easy outerwear patterns if you want to start with another pattern.

Thanks for the link. Simplicity 8554 will be my first coat! 🤞🏾
For those of us who get a headache looking at Instagram, can you pop a picture of your makes up in the corner when you’re talking about them? Unless it’s a hassle to do. (I have no idea what goes into making a YT video.) ❤️
Hey Denise - thanks I'll be mindful of that in future videos.
