James Earl Jones was 88 years old when he filmed his scenes. Although in reasonably good health for a man of his age, and happy to appear in this movie, James did not want to travel far to do so. His scenes were shot in one day on a rented TV soundstage nearer his home on the New York state/Connecticut border, without any of the other cast members present. It was to be Jones' final feature film role.
Louie Anderson, who played the McDowell's employee in this and the original movie, died about 2 years ago at a not very advanced age. RIP. He was known more as a stand-up comedian than an actor.
My uncle got to meet James Earl Jones in a bar in the 80s, Juneau AK. They got drunk together. He got his autograph but lost it. Said he was really down to earth and funny. RIP.
20:21 Benson was a tv show from 1978-86, about a tongued former butler, Benson DuBois, moves up in the world, becoming first the governor's "director of household affairs," then the state's budget director, then lieutenant governor and candidate for the executive mansion.
It's kinda class reunion of the black who is/was who of the 80's (and up to now). And i love it, cause it is done in a not annoying way. It's what i wished for many older shows and casts, just spend some good extratime with beloved actors/characteres and add a next generation to them, make it joyful for audiences of all ages.😊
I caught that as well. I'm sure she knew what she meant, just said it wrong. I'm sure she meant to say "twenty one or two," but said "two thousand one or two" by mistake. I don't think that she thought this film came out twenty years ago, she just mis-spoke.
Duke & Duke were the broke homeless men in the first Coming to America. The were the protagonists in Trading Places who switched Dan Ackroyd for Eddie Murphy and then Dan & Eddie made them broke.
He played all through the 90s, and I even had him on my fantasy nba team in the early 2000s. He was still the average blocks per game leader at that time.
Tony Todd passed away on November 6, 2024. He's a B-movie legend like Bruce Campbell best known for the Candyman and Final Destination horror franchises as well as playing Ben in the 1990 Night Of The Living Dead remake and voicing the villain Darkseid in the DC animated universe. Most of his projects aren't really geared for Ash but she would probably like 1986's Platoon. Tony's part of the supporting cast and the movie stars Charlie Sheen, Willem Dafoe and Johnny Depp.
@@ll7868 I agree, I love Robert Englund but Tony was so awesome without having to be so over the top. And the having real bees in his mouth when filming..so badass.
@@SareyGamp He got a $23,000 bonus for that bee scene, $1,000 for each time he was stung. The AGA would never allow an actor to do that today, they'd be CGI bees. In 2006's The Wicker Man Nick Cage wanted to be in the scene with real bees being poured on his head but they used a CGI Nick Cage face on a green styrofoam head with real bees. Honeybees were used in that movie and they don't even have stingers.
One of the first movies that I saw John Amos in was "The World's Greatest Athlete"...One of those fantastic Disney movies from the 70's that prove that there were major drugs going on at Disney at the time. You can also catch a young Kurt Russell in "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes".
What did you mean "even Morgan Freeman is starting to look old"? He's been looking distinguished and aged since Driving Ms. Daisy, which was like 40 years ago. He has always been old and is genuinely timeless.
Thank you for doing this. I loved John Amos when he was a TV dad. As a white kid growing up in Idaho watching John play a father made me jealous of kids with a dad like him. After him most TV dads were written as idiots. I appreciate the reminder of his life and legacy.

This is the right way to do a sequel to a very old property. I have seen it a few times and making sure you don't have a stick up your ass is required to have fun with this haha.

The. Times, they are a changin'. Even Clint Eastwood's last film, which is by all accounts outstanding and Oscar worthy, couldn't score a theatrical release. And to be able to close your eyes and drift off the planet while being serenaded by Gladys Knight-we should all be so blessed.
22:01 "For a minute I kind of wanted them to kiss but now I just remembered, I just remembered they're half-brother and sister and that's...bad." Well, that desire is probably your inner Tennessee coming out...
Leslie Jones was 21 in 1988. When I saw this, I thought for sure that Jones was way too young, but she's fine as heck at 54 years old (54 in this film, 57 now), and could have been at the bar in the first film! [Eddie Murphy was 27 in the first film, though his character was just turned 21.]
Great reaction... TBH I really didn't think Ashleigh would like this. So many didn't, Myself included. However, she is so right, Shari Headley a.k.a Lisa McDowell/Queen Joffer, is and was so very beautiful (especially at the 1st movies wedding dress reveal). As I recall one of my many adult (never gonna happen) celebrity crushes, along with the Lady in waiting and the "I'm Not Interested In Men Unless He Drives A BMW" woman. Anyway, it's been so long and forgotten, I didn't remember the DJ twins came on stage, awesome. The thing that got me down is, along with myself... everybody looked kind of time worn, age was not our friend...😞
Make it three in this movie who have passed. Other than John Amos, James Earl Jones, Louie Anderson, better known for the animated series "Life with Louie," passed away a couple of years ago. This was his final film role.
This movie was better than I thought it'd be. I didn't hear a lot of good things about it when it came out so I skipped it. But I laughed plenty throughout. Leslie Jones and Tracy Morgan were hilarious. And no, I don't think the McFlurby rips off the McFlurry either.
Greetings Ashleigh Yes, those are the real "Salt 'N Peppa". A Kalashnikov is a type of rifle or submachine gun made in Russia, especially the AK-47 assault rifle. The name "Kalashnikov" comes from the inventor of the rifle, Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov. C4 is like a clay-like explosive, usually requiring and ignition and timer. Yes, I agree that it was funny and had some repeating (throwback) jokes. if it was stand alone, it would have been funnier as it would have seemed "fresher". Unfortunately (for me), there were some continuity flaws in the script and illogical reasoning based on the characters that Lisa and Akeem were supposed to be in the first part. Somehow, you have to believe that Lisa would NOT have taught Akeem more "American ways" in all the years they were married together. That, they NEVER travel back even for a small vacation. That Akeem would somehow would have forgotten how to dress (discreetly or more 'Americanized') when returning to Queens. The son role (Lavelle) did NOT need to be a "bastard" son to have and almost similar story and STILL be just, if not, funnier. There were other flaws, for me. Hence, this was more 3.5 stars for me. Glad that you enjoy it. See ya on Buffy Wednesday.
