  • A.J. Croce - "Cures Just Like Medicine"
"For 28 years I had a muse in my life. She was always honest about my work and never hesitated to say that she loved or didn’t love something I wrote. She was a musical encyclopedia and understood references that only the most educated of critics could catch. This was the last song I wrote for Just Like Medicine and like so many songs before, it was a love letter to my best friend. When she passed away suddenly of a rare illness, I felt lost. It’s taken time for me to be able to feel creative again. I felt that I needed to send her a posthumous love letter in gratitude for the life we shared. So this video is just that, a thank you note to my muse." - A.J.

I was privileged to cook and serve a pre-show pot roast dinner for the ethereal A.J. and his touring band members when they visited my hometown this theater season. Meeting them personally was a pleasure, but their live concert literally set my music bar much higher. This song in particular cured me just like medicine. His music has become a gift in my everyday life, and if I could, I'd thank A.J. personally, for heeding the call, always and evermore.

I just discovered A.J. today,l'm surprised at such a young age he's alread lost the most precious soul in his life. The world is sometimes not a fair place,l mean after losing his father who only 30yrs!.l lost my father when l was only 3 months and l have only one of his photo that l'm clinging on with all my life albeit the fact that it's black and white. At 56yrs old l'm playing music and trying Jim Croce style that l admire so much.l know the pain, maybe that's why l never got married or have desire to have kids even a pet.Losing a life and trying to fill that void in next to impossible.

My personal medicinal cure for anything is a smooth AJ song, a glass of Scotch, an easy chair and a dimly lit room.

Sitting here on a Sunday, this song has given me a small sense of joy. Will check out more of your music AJ. Condolences on your loss.
Also wanted to share. My first memory of your father's music was in the early seventies as a small child sitting in the back seat of the car (my parents always played FM stations). As a child, my brothers and I really caught onto the lyrics, because we could understand. So whenever I hear that song, I think of the very block we were driving on when we first heard it. What's more, nearly forty-five years later i visited that New England town and immediately thought of Bad, Bad Leroy Brown. It is kind of special to me.

Had no idea when I saw you this year at City Winery in Chicago that your wife passed the year before. I’m so sorry. My deepest sympathy.
I recently got turned onto your music (even tho I was born in 67). I was exposed to music my entire life, love the blues, and honestly don’t know how you eluded me. You are sensational.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's funny how so many of us lose someone we love at one time or another and yet have to face the aftermath completely alone at first until we can find that way that allows us to share our thoughts. I feel honored to have just listened to your sharing of yours!
