I love how you've gone from semi-angrily reminding people "it's just a metronome" to making "it's just a metronome" part of your routine.

Why would someone dislike this video for God's sake????

  • @gypbob123

What did I learn from this Mike? That while I can play 8th note triplets, I couldn't count, play or feel them as paradiddles!!!! Angry? Nope. It took a couple days of super control to only practice the 8th para trips without combining it all, but it's coming along, and now I can play the combo slowly!!! MATCHA!!! :)

Very nice. New exercise for me. Took me 4 hours to get hold of that poly rhythms (paradiddle over 8th triplets).
It was such a joy to finally make it happen.
Now, it's time to speed it up.
    Thank you for the channel🎉🎉🎉

That metronome is good for setting tempos on a set list. The big flash is great too, to see out of the corner of my eye on stage.

Wow this feels great! Thanks for sharing, Mike. *High five.* By the way, my practice pad at home is 3 pillows stacked on top of each other (memory foam pillow on the top), on top of my bed (so top pillow is at hip height), using Vic Firth 5B Chop-Out sticks. The memory foam combined with the rubber tips of the sticks provides just enough rebound that is also dampened, so hitting real drums on my kit feels like bouncing a basketball. Doing double strokes or fast singles on this DIY practice pad feels like hitting a puddle of sludge. I think it helps strengthen my grip/forearms, and improves technique. Highly recommend.

Been using a ton of your hand technique videos and I can say I see improvement, not ready to start the tour anytime soon, but better control and speed. Thanks a ton and is there anyway I could forward a video of me playing to a song for your feedback?
    Look forward to more videos.

Hi Mike. Not sure if you’ll see this but.. thank you so much for your videos. I have been drumming for nearly 30 years now and your teaching style is challenging and encouraging me to be better. One thing that I feel like sadly I am still trying to learn properly is how to hold the stick. I feel like techniques have changed since I was taught and you make it look so effortless. I was wondering if you could do a video lesson on the real basics of how you hold the stick and how you use your grip and fingers to create doubles, how you make it wrist rather then forearm movements. I pick up a lot but just watching in super slow speed but I feel like some instruction would make it all clearer. Thanks again.

Great Excercise. There are a lot of interesting similar but different Excercises in Jost Nickels Snare Book, where he moves patterns like the Paradiddle (or Paradiddlediddle, or inverted Paradiddle) through different subdivisions and through different Time signatures. Pretty advanced stuff. Great Book!

I love how Mike is constantly bombarded with questions about his metronome and he's all..... *"I just like the colors."* 😂
Do you use any other metronomes in your own practice time or do you only practice to a steady click?
I'm curious, because I've actually been developing a metronome app for several years (starting with Android but I'll also be making an iOS version in the future) and I'm gearing the features towards isolated/home practice (as opposed to live use).
