RULES:
The object of the game is to be the first team to score 21 points, win by two. Inflate the ball to a 12 inch circumference. Assemble the frame, called the set, and wrap the net evenly around it so when the ball is dropped anywhere on it from a height of five feet, it will bounce up about 20 inches. Divide the players into two teams of two players. Players start in four positions around the net, 90 degrees apart. Teammates are located next to each other. All players must start with their body at least 7 feet from the net. Pick one team to serve first and that team sets their positions and gives the ball to their first server.
Once the serving team is set, the receiving team positions their players. The player opposite the server is the receiver. Once the server is set, the receiver can adjust their position and move anywhere without the 7 foot restriction. The server will continue to serve until the receiving team wins a point. Once the receiving team wins a point, they get the service possession and choose who will start serving for their team from then on. Service alternates between teammates after each change of service position before serving.
The server must set their feet. At least one foot must maintain contact with the ground until the ball hits the net. All parts of the server's body, and the ball must be behind the 7 foot service line when the ball is struck. The server may take one step in any direction, pivoting off their other foot. Once they step, their foot cannot move until the ball hits the net. Before serving you must call the current score. To serve, toss the ball up at least four inches, then hit it with your other hand. The ball cannot be caught, carried or thrown.
Serves may be struck with any amount of force. Short serves are allowed. Serves may not be hit higher than the receiver shoulder when they are in an athletic position. A serve may be hit at any angle. The receiving team must call out any serving faults before the ball is hit for a second time. If they do, then the server is allocated one additional serve. If a second fault occurs then the receiving team earns one point and possession of the serve.
A service fault is any of the following:
-The ball is struck before traveling four inches.
-The ball is struck closer than seven feet to the net.
-Any part of the server's body contacts the ground within the 7 foot service line.
-The server does not maintain one point of contact with their pivot foot or stepping foot.
-The ball's trajectory changes due to proximity to the rim without contacting the rim. This is called a pocket. The exception to this is if the ball hits near the server side of the net where it typically bounces low and hard without a change in direction. This is legal.
-The ball's initial contact with the set hits the rim or legs directly.
-The ball misses the net entirely.
-The ball lands underneath the net.
-The ball bounces multiple times on the net or bounces on the net, then hits the frame on the way down.
-After the ball is served, the first contact is by a player on the serving team.
-The ball is tossed up and isn't hit.
-Dropping or catching a toss all counts as a fault.
Only the designated receiver can field the serve. If the serving team wins the point, the server switches positions with their partner and serves to the other member of the opposing team. After every five points, all players rotate one position counterclockwise around the net to equalize conditions.
If a non-receiving or non-serving player takes a step before the ball is hit by the server, the first team to do so loses a point. If the infraction happens simultaneously, the point is replayed. A team is allowed a maximum of three hits that alternate between players for returning the ball to the net. If they hit it four times or the same player hits it twice in a row, then that team loses the point. If teammates touch the ball simultaneously, it is counted as two hits and either team may take the next hit, provided they have not already used all three hits.
A hit is any contact with the ball by a player. The ball may touch any part of the body. The ball must be struck. It cannot be caught, lifted, or thrown. Players may not hit...
Would be nice to include metric units
I can convert on the fly, but it wouldn't hurt.
agreed.
regardless of preference, both units should be used.
think of the japanese and other countries who use metric!
Most countries use metric.
I think it's because the rules are standardized based on imperial units
@@remixtheidiot5771 literally just 3 countries out of 193 use imperial (maybe 5 if we count GB and Canada)
You can tell these are 'tournament rules' when there's 10 trillion specifications as to how to strike a ball
it is still a " fun" game as long as the players judge each other instead of having an umpire.
It's almost like tournaments have rules to ensure fair play.
@@deadersurvival4716 Yeah I didn't say there shouldn't be many specifications it's just that it's funny to see how these rules contrast from like a Monopoly game
@@OW0974 Not really, if you look at percentage. There are plenty of specifics for tournament monopoly rules, as well. This just has more possibilities, whereas monopoly only has three options maximum at any given moment and therefore has less to regulate.
But are the rules the same as in regular chess, except for these changes?
I love this game. It's a great game to play with house rules.
It must have taken forever to get footage of all the faults and situations! That or they're way. Better than I am, which is likely...
Love the concept of this game, but frack me that's too many rules
Great video!
Just a note:
When severing you can lean over the 7 foot line.
This feels like volleyball from an alternate universe
That spike ball set looks pretty happy
Are castling and en passant allowed?
(just joking of course)
I think you may castling with your teammate after serving the ball 🤣
ask /r/AnarchyChess
Very clear and informative! The demonstrations are so helpful.
Nice explanation! But there is a litte mistake in the name of the sport: the sport is called Roundnet, Spikeball is only one of the manufacturers of the Roundnet sets 🙂
Is it true?
@@parashavenue yes, Roundnet is the sport, Spikeball is one of many manufacturers.
Playing for the first time today, I'm gonna let the others call out my Fails, csuse those are maaaany possibilities ^^
I have a question. You say 7 feet. Does that mean people with smaller feet gets closer to the center?
7 feet = 84 inches or 213.36 centimeters
@@TripleSGames ahhhhhh. Thx very much
@@TripleSGames it's a joke bro
@@kittyn5222 Is it? It sounded like a real question.
It seems very fun to play, thanks for the explanation!
time to get the measuring tape
About almost half of the video itself is mostly faults and how to lose a point. Eventually on the grand scale of things would eventually be a list of what you can't do in Spikeball (and how to lose a point in every conceivable and imaginable way).
I like this!
Well, this is an interesting game, but it is involving touching grass, 2/10
Same, also athletic
9/10
Bruh
Not if you play in snow
Best
So this is similar to volleyball but 2 players and small play area?
But you have a different net
Anything on teqball, futpong and crossnet yet?
1 V 1 will be a good choice. -----Spikeball factory.

a little WRONG rule...
1:31 "all parts of the server's body and the ball must behind the 7ft service line"
4.4. Characteristics of the Serve
4.4.1. Before serving, the server must set their position with all points of contact (on the ground) behind
the service line.
4.4.2. After setting the service position and during the act of serving - including the
swing, the follow-through, and the momentum from the serving action - all points of
contact must remain behind the service line.
Unclear on whether en passant is allowed.

I dont think you understand what 12 inches means...
Man, this is the most american game ever XD So many feet and inches
It was made by American College students so....
Ever watched high-level play of Spikeball? It's unwatchable. Most of the serves are unreturnable.
This looks like work, not pleasure. No thanks.
