    Thank you for being honest and transparent about not feeding your dogs raw. I felt almost bullied and pressured by people on the internet to feed my dog raw even though I don't feel confident doing so because people shame you for feeding kibble these days even if it's top quality kibble. I'll now be more confident in my decision to feed kibble.

    First of all, your dogs are absolutely beautiful. Secondly, I like the fact that you know what your dog's purpose is and socialize to suit. How do you find the balance? In a future video, could you go more in depth on how you maintain your dog's self-control in public settings to make them an ideal canine companion, while allowing them to fulfill their purpose as guard dogs in general? You touched on it here, which I appreciated, but I would love more details since almost every training programme seems to cater to making dominant breeds completely docile as opposed to having a guard dog that is well-behaved but understands his role.

      Hi, If the dog does not know how to heel I would teach him in an environment with out distractions. When he can stay in the heel position without distractions I would add distractions working my way to approaching people. I would use the methods described in our heeling video to get the dog to hold position.

    How big is that yard?
    It looks like a good size
    I also have a leash on puppies most of the time
    I cut the loops at the end.
    Leash are cheap if you get them at the dollar store

    My friend has a nearly 2 y/o Boerbel-Am Bulldog mix, named "Briq"
    All of our dogs are mixed breeds. And purchased as adults. This one he got as puppy from a farmer who breeds for looks & temperament. All our dogs have been purposely mixed or run of the mill muts (my absolute favorite mix in all my 40+ yrs is our intentional Weimaraner-GSP cross)
    He's almost 2, & he's such a loveable jerk. This dog is a like a bull in a China shop. And shows no signs of maturity. He wants to be a lap dog, he submits when you correct, but pretty much only during the correction, & then he resets & pushes up on you again. I can get him to follow commands, but it's flipping
    E X H A U S T I N G
    I know it's his owner, he doesn't take time to train, whereas my dogs attend obedience because I love the courses & it helps socialize with people & dogs.
    He messes with my old ass GSD-Elk hound despite her attacking him after multiple warnings (I correct with her if I catch him...she does pecking order no blood "attack"). He messes with my 5 y/o GSP-Weim more often. He plays more, BUT when he's done, Briq doesn't care, he pushes & pushes until attacked. AGAIN this dog also doesn't viciously attack, but he leaves little abrasions on Briq.
    What's strange to me is that our GSD has never played with him, & now he's pushy BUT he's older. He's intact, but she is spayed. He does try to hump my GSP-Weim a lot, which jumping has caused the abrasions in their tussles. Briq kinda gets scared (I don't think that's the right word...he submits during tussle & then right back at it....) I kinda see him as being pragmatic & getting my GSP-Weim tired out, because he can never match the stamina head to head. He looks like a goofy dumb dog, BUT I swear he's calculating (which his owner doesn't agree with).
    Do you think if he doesn't get fixed, he's always going to try to hump my dogs? I recall you saying males mature later, I see him ever so slightly pushing back against physical corrections he was more accepting of a year ago, like pulling him by the collar, making him lay down (as much as you physically can "make" one). Thankfully he loves us, & is a good natured dog who appears to want acceptance more than his own way. Or used to appear that way...like I said he's given some physical signs of annoyance & not listen when he used to stay put. He hasn't given aggressive push back, but who knows when he's going to be done maturing and mentally growing. What age do males temperament plateau?

      Hi, thanks for sharing and we have dealt with the behavior you describe several times. Hope you don't mind but I would like to answer the question and share it with those who don't read the comments section and will include it in part of our next video that we are working on right now. The video will be giving an up date on Ripley's recovery and how Dawn and her puppies are doing.

    • @alisha7224
      @alisha7224 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please do. Would love to have it addressed. I love your channel by the way. I foster "difficult dogs" I think I have success because I watch obedience videos & have taken my own dogs through obedience. Our GSP-Weim was a foster dog who had problems in every home, but was fine with us. Last return I took him through basic & advanced obedience (to socialize him with people...very pet & lil kid friendly friendly but was aggressive with adults & older adolescents...qualities I didn't mind, but needed good training to keep him safe) We
      ended up rehoming our pitbull to our neighbor because he wasn't as protective as our foster GSP-Weim. So that gave us another opportunity to go through basic & advanced obedience. Which in turn has reinforced training techniques with large working breed fosters (we only foster those kinda dogs).
      It may sound harsh to rehome a dog because you like another one better, but we trained him, loved him & gave him to our neighbor who adores him because another dog needed us more. Rehoming him allowed us to save another difficult to adopt dog.

      Tough decisions for sure and we have made similar its never easy. Best part of youtube for hubby is getting to interact with people who love teaching obedience as much as he does which sounds like you do in spades,

    Question: My Boerboel just turned 4 months and she still jumps on me and bites me. I take her for 20 minute walks on our property 3 times a day . Her last set of vaccines are this Monday. I put a Martingale collar on her but she seems more agitated by it. Is this normal for the boerboel?

    • @LDXP
      @LDXP  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, she should get use to the martingale collar quickly its pretty normal for a dog to react to the new sensation of how pressure is applied. As for the jumping and biting with out knowing a little more about when she is doing it I'm guessing she is doing it simply wanting more active engagement. If this is the case I would personally try and channel that energy in to a game with a toy and get her to engage with it when I think she is going to start the jumping and biting. Just make sure she doesn't start the jumping and biting before giving her the toy or you will be rewarding and reinforcing the behavior. Once I get engagement with the toy and they attempt the unwanted behavior I will give a "no" and correct for it and then reward the dog with the toy when they respond positively to the correction. Hope that helps, Cheers!

    • @LDXP
      @LDXP  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To start training basic obedience I don't really pay attention to how old they are but I look for when I can get a good 15-20 mins of focus and engagement as a cue for when to start training commands. Hope that helps. Cheers!
