When Honda designed the AWD viscous back in the 80s for the Civic Wagon's with only 75hp at the flywheel, I bet the engineers there never even contemplated that those parts would eventually handle 1000hp at the wheels in 2022. 😂👍
IMO Hondas Engineers are so Nerdy, that they did calculate how much power it could theoretically hold lol. They probably factored in people actually doing some light off roading and decided to make a strong component.

If my memory serves me right they purposely overbuilt the F22 ( Honda engine that comes factory sleeved) but limited it to a whopping 104 horsepower, but if you would add bolt ons, keep stock internals and a Turbo kit, you could possibly make around 450 horsepower to the wheel on a car that is as light as a feather.

I was a a local car auction yesterday and while I'm not really into Honda's, I couldn't pass up on what I found. Picked up a 1990 Civic hatchback, never modified 100% bone stock, 1 owner, very minimal rear quarter rust, factory sunroof, 5 speed & has 83,946 miles. Runs like a dream. I'm thinking about doing one of these AWD K series setups & CRX front end conversion once my Corolla GT-S is complete in a few weeks.

At these levels you’re talking about power to weight ratio’s that are near the absolute limit of what a wheeled car can achieve on the street. Any 1500+ WHP gtr / lambo / viper etc will be a similar power to weight ratio.
Started with Hondas during the late 90s import boom. They will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve since moved on to muscle cars but if I ever got another Honda it would be a hatchback civic.
