this what one piece does amazingly, they introduce endgame level characters super early on but only show you glimpses of how strong they really are by showing their achievements later on in the show. you never fully understand just how strong they are until you have something to accurately compare them to, which one piece will gradually feed to you in later episodes

To fight that insane crew of Whitebeard, big moms, shiki, xebecs and Kaido, of course you need more than one strong opponent.
That's why Garp needed the help of Rogers, Gaban, Rayleigh and other strong crew mates on his crew
I don't know why, but I get the feeling Whitebeared helped Roger and Garp vs Xebec. Garp and Sengoku had respect for Whitebeared, Rayleigh was sheding a tear after his death. I mean its obvious (duh) that Roger liked Whitebeared and vice versa. So I bet its the main reason.
I don't think, that WB wanted to betray Xebec or anything like it, but I guess he wasn't respecting him, and probably something happened on this island, that he switched sides in mid battle.
My wild guess would be that Xebec was a Celestial Dragon, that wanted to wipe out other Celestial Dragons, so he could rule the world, and that included good Celestial Dragons, like Doflamingo parents. If Shanks is Xebec son and a Celestial Dragon, that would explain why Gorosei treat him with respect. Also Sengoku as a fleet admiral would know this, hence his words at the end of Marinford war - if its you i'll alow it (or sth like that).
As a bonus, I wouldn't be surprised if Dragon was there too alongside Garp, and after whole incident went rogue - probably knowing that Im wiped out island, along with inocent citizens, like that island we saw in manga. Dragon was 17 years old back then. Garp would not only have moral reason to oppose Celestial Dragons, but also very personal one.

Whitebeard likely faced Figarland, and other holy knights, while the main contenders fought like this, Rocks vs Roger and Garp, Big mom vs holy knights, Kaido vs Raileigh, Gaban vs Shiki etc.
To think some people still underestimate Garp

@@mori_san8206There’s no way he’d be able to be on par with Roger if he didn’t have insane Haki. It’s just common sense. Although if you want a specific time that he used Haki, just look at the flashback of Garp vs Don Chinjao.
It is quite cool that looking back, it's most likely that Blackbeard inherited Rocks D. Xebec's will, while Luffy inherited that of Gol D. Roger.
Xebec is most probably father of Shanks. Shanks is 39 and God Valley incident was 38 years ago, so it lines up. And in One Piece Red movie it is said its cannon that Roger found baby Shanks and took him under his wings. That also would explain why Shanks haki is that strong.

But the thing also is they said Shanks comes from the Figarland family. And that sounds heavily like the name of a celestial dragon hence why he is able to request war to be stopped and appear in front of the Gorosei.

People didn't take Garp seriously when he said he would kill Akainu at marineford but after this, people realized he wasn't kidding, has not been Sengoku pinning him down, he would have probably 1 shot Akainu.
NO WAY he could have one shot Akainu if he couldn't one shot Aokiji... ;)

as a japanese guy myself. do you want to hear the thoughts of the japanese about rocks D. xebec? in japan we think buggy inherit or clone of rocks D xebec? why? buggy is yonko now. and if watched before he became yongko, it started with impel down. The prisoners thought he was strong, marines also called Buggy and found out his history that he was part of the pirates king crew, and he did become a warlord even though he wasn't strong and at that time in the episode he said that's not all he can do. he will become a yongko and soon he will become the king of the pirates and it was true that he became a yongko and takenotes with him crocodile and mihawk and everyone knows that Buggy is its leader, in short the younger yonko thought that it was big mom and whitebeard and kaido and others got stronger they joined the crew but they are the ones who lift that crew. and that's the theory of rocks D. xebec here in Japan, thank you guys for reading. no hate please its just a theory after all. let's go one piece fans

Buggy doesn't have to be a clone, he might be simply Xebec son. Its eiter Shanks or Buggy. They are both 39, and Rocks Pirates lost 38 years ago. Also Oda has once said that Buggy has the potential to be one of the most powerful characters in the series, whatever it means.
Then why did Kaido named Xebec as one of the 5 people along with Rogers, Whitebeard, Shanks, Oden who can go toe to toe with him?
And now galaxy impact by garp is mind blowing.
