    The idea here is cooler/denser air than the engine bay. This would intern suppliment some hp. Maybe not a full second on trap times, but shows early tech for CAI. Nice endeavor for us to see air flow.

The idea that cowl induction is going to knock off a second or more off of your quarter mile times is just asinine!! If it ever did such a thing, then you have much bigger problems than needing cowl induction! So, whatever dude!!

    This isn't increased air pressure, this is a low pressure area under the hood, and the air is trying to fill it the higher the speed you go. Cant believe nobody answered this.

      Similar to using a body pan on the underside of your drag car (or whatever car) creates a "vacuum" (low pressure area), that helps hold your vehicle to the ground (if body angle is set properly).

      It's proven that only when your vehicle is in motion that it picks up the dense air. The dense air is created when hitting your windshield. It's colder in the cowl area. It doesn't work all the time. It works at take off and after driving slow ie traffic and then accelerating. The air needs to cool down INSIDE the cowl. The intake will then use that bit of cold/dense air to burn fuel better. You won't notice a difference every time. If you want to do so, you'll also need a great exhaust system. Headers and exhaust.

    The suction was so high on my chevy pick up that it would suck the cleaning fluid out of my windshield washer.

    A 3 in cowl hood can make 15-20hp and take a second off a quarter mile!? Holly crap im gonna put a 8in cowl. Well why stop there im gonna take the hood off completely ill probably gain like 100hp and 5 seconds off my 1/4mile.
    Im kidding lol u seem like a good guy and your without a doubt extremely new to the automotive world. And i can see your excited to try this test i like your attitude towards it. Every guy no matter how experienced at some point in their life thought that maybe some silly trick theyve done with their car had some kind of super effect and added hp with optimistic thinking.
    BUT everyone on here is not helping you actually learn anything either supprting your claims or just being assholes about it. A cowl hood literally has ZERO effect on horsepower from ram air. The Chevelle ss from back in the day a cowl that would open up and then draw in air through the hood since it was plumbed for that. Nut i mever created any kind of pressure that would force air into the engine. But a cowl like yours is manly there for looks and to let out some hot air and draw im some cooler air from outside. Cooler air DOES help your engine make more power but Unfortunately it does not make a difference the way your talking. It doesnt make "boost". It makes wind. A truly functional ram air would be on like the ws6 or Camaros from the early 2000s. Those did actually make maybe .5-2psi boost pressure at over 100mph. They used an air scoop and ot fed straight into the air intake. U gotta remember that a n/a engine is only going to draw in what it needs UNLESS you fill up the plenum with excess air that is cant use up in a second or to. Hence creating "boost" pressure. Air is constantly pressing upon your valves. U see the drag cars with those big front facing clear hood scoops on them manly used for nitrous or a serious race engine? Those also have a ram air effect. But must be also going at great speeds to make any "boost" pressure. Another thing to take into consideration when trying out these tests to "find" hp from an easy modification youd think theyd promote that in their ads and farrrr more car guys would have them. Long story short YES cowls are functional. But not the way your thinking they do or tried to explain.

    So you think no gain on a car running a 14'' open air cleaner?

      A slight gain. the ram effect of these hood scoops is small, however the cooler air really helps. To take full advantage of this you must seal the intake to the cowl....... then the increase in power will be substantial........ though not 1,5 seconds in the 1/4. a few tenths though, and that is a lot!

    alright man obviously your not a car guy cause nobody ever cut time on a 1/4 with a cowl hood 2nd naturally aspirated engines cannot draw any extra air than whats provided by atmospheric pressure. 3rd nobody's car has ever took flight due to a cowl induction hood. true a car does get lift at high speeds but that's because the air moving under the entire car gives it lift I can take the hood completely off the car and still create lift. so next time u wanna put a video on the Internet might wanna know what your talking about 1st

      The atmospheric air from inside a hot engine bay? Judging by the strips, I'd imagine he's getting cooler air from the outside which may not work with a stock intake since most are covered anyways. But anybody with an open air intake may see some HP gain from a cowl.

      What he's talking about is at real high speeds is the cowl is pulling in air that's lifting the front on the engine bay causing the front end to be lighter. Not likely but its possible
