Could you help me out a little bit and answer one question? I’m going to buy an Audio Technica Lp60X record player and i’d like to know, will i be able to listen to records with my headphones connected by AUX or the sound’s gonna be too quite? (sorry for any mistakes, English’s not my first language)
Thats so interesting you posted this inspite of having all of the originals and cassettes LOL. But each year I get more and more sad of lost and neglected master tapes widespread. Thanks for sharing!!
@@WowwowLulu video was on a box set of Sade albums reissued on vinyl records. Im sure each of those albums are on apple music service individually if not more...
I confess I hadn't really listened to Sade before, but after hearing you wax lyrical about her music, I listened to streams of some of her tracks, and loved them all! Wonderful music to chill out to, and the sort of thing that can appeal to anyone, old or young. Thanks, Jarrett!
Just purchased this item. Can't wait to get it. I've only really just delved deep into Sade, I usually just played the singles, but after having a Sadd day, I'm in love. Wow! Incredible band, incredible music for the soul.
Im old enough to remember when Vinyl was the only source other then radio for listening to music. A couple of months ago I was looking in my basement at my old Vinyl and started to get interested again. Looking for news about what's new in Vinyl and players I researched it on TH-cam as I do almost everything and I came across your post and immediately I knew you would be my source for info. Its December 2022 and Im sitting here listening to Sade Box Set This Far on my new Fluance RT85 and I love it. Thanks for the Info Reply
Wow! I was literally just searching for videos about this box and you just uploaded this, thanks! And I wanna buy this sooo bad, but I'm just a 16 year old without a job (and without a vinyl player xD)... Gotta think about it and when they restock I may buy it. Thanks for this video and keep on rocking them Sade songs!
I love Sade's records I have three of her albums Diamond Life Promise Best Of Sade. I'm trying to get her Stronger Than Pride, Love Deluxe, and Lovers Rock. Your videos are awesome keep em coming
Jason Hammond exactly, collecting each individually is a pretty penny. Love deluxe alone goes for the same price as the box set. So I preordered the box set.
So glad you did this review of the box set, I love mine! Some of my records came scuffed, so definitely agree on the poor pressing job. However it doesn’t effect the playback too much and as a special bonus I no longer have to pay $100+ for a new Sade record on Discogs. 😎 Song of the Day: Cherish The Day - Sade.
Totally agree with your review, especially about quality. I had to go through 4 exchanges to get more or less a perfect set. I will go and compare originals vs these new ones. Thank you. As a side note, bought Queen box set which is absolutely gorgeous, 10 out of 10, clean, sound great, coloured, you can tell they really took care of the release.
I pre-ordered mine 3 days before the release date in October 2020 and got them to Nairobi Kenya in 2 weeks. I had never bought Sade record before because I wanted all of them at the same time which is hard in this day...so when the chance to get came up I wasn't going to let it pass me by.
I love Sade as well. You are right on with your grips. I would be a little put back with no extras at that cost, and the dirty quality. Loving that another release could come soon through!
Big fan of Sade . I was lucky enough to see Sade live in the mid1980s when they toured the Promise album .. fantastic!! Great musicians .. GREAT singer , and even more beautifull in person.
as a Sade fan who just started collecting this box set made sense for me money wise. And if I stumble upon any originals in my collecting journey I won't be mad 😂 Mine didn't come dirty at all but did come in the cheap inner slips. I also purchased it directly from her website and received it two days before official release so maybe direct orders were also prioritized? nor sure! anyway no regrets from me, love this set!
Speaking about music is like dancing about architecture :D 2:33 - "I also have several of Shade's cassettes, DVDs, Blu-Rays and even a Minidiscs, but funny enough - nothing on digital". Youre 100% right. DVDs, Blu-Rays and even a Minidiscs are analogue :D
I purchased Dimond Life and Promise as soon as the vinyl LPs were released. I purchased the Promise album right at the end of stores stocking viny LPs, and I got it new for only $1.00 .
Sade is one of my favorite contralto smooth jazz quiet storm singers. My singing dream is to sing with a contralto singer for harmony, because I have a high bass-baritone voice.
Just get a Spin Clean or Vinyl Vac system for cleaning your records (I have both). And you are right....many of the new releases or remasters are done with digital transfers...it is a cheap way to do it, especially if done without considering that mastering for vinyl is not the same as mastering for a CD...just my 2 cents (4 adjusting for inflation).
I have two copies of Portrait 1985 pressings of Diamond Life on record. An original Portrait Diamond Life CD, Best of Sade and Love Deluxe on CD. Oh and i have her music videos on official DVD too. I considered buying this box set but after hearing its not from the original master tapes i will be passing on this one. This was their perfect opportunity to make the albums sound better but its missed op.
I don't know if someone mention before but you have repress of Lovers Rock LP. Original press is 100% identical as the one in the box set. Yours one is holland press, suppose it's a Music On Vinyl one.
Hi I'm a fan of Sade. I have her first 3 LPs and most of her CDs. I did pre order this box set simply because I thought it would be easier to get this than attempt to get her last 3 lps on vinyl as the price is outrageous now. I ordered early and as of right now, still have not received them. I ordered through her official site which is affiliated with Sony music. I have attempted to contact them a couple of times and you basically get a form style email back letting you know due to every circumstance under the sun, the records are arriving late, but still on their way. Frustrating, but I'm still hanging on for them! Thanks for the review.
Not sure if you like instrumental music scores but if you do, pick up the Batman 1989 Score. A first pressing is pretty rare but Mondo repressed it recently and it’s hauntingly beautiful and calming. You should check it out!
Funny I came across this video, just yesterday I bought my first record player and I went to buy some record to play. I saw Sade album "Lovers rock" and I just LOVE her so much. It was in section for not used records and it was too expensive for me because I bought record player and all additional gear. I ended up buying used Abba album that was cheap, but I'm so sad I cant afford Sade. I wait for next payday and I will go immediately to buy Sade :)
After the longest period of time, Windir finally got a vinyl release after, boxed in a wooden container, including all four albums. Fastest pre-order I ever did speaking of which: Song of the day: Journey to the end - Windir
I've always loved when remasters have differences on the album cover compared to the original, makes me want to collect both versions. The biggest example for me is Grace under pressure by Rush. The original cover depicts a bright blue and white thunderstorm and ocean, and the remaster changed it to more of a brown and grey, which gives the entire album an entirely different vibe for me.
I got lucky and got a set. As a matter of fact, it arrived today. FIrst, Acoustic Sounds had a preorder for February shipping. Went ahead and ordered. Two days later (Jan 31st I think), my orders status was backordered. Jumped to Amazon (UK) and they had 20 available. Quickly jumped to Amazon (US) and then had 20 available also. Ordered from there. Then waited for the Backorder to show up on Amazon also. Nope, they confirmed and shipped a few days later. Thankfully, I was able to cancel my preorder with Acoustic Sounds. Or, I possibly would have had 2 sets....lol..
I got the box set on the day of release. Off the bat, Love Deluxe was defective and I had to get a replacement at the shop. Which was fast and easy. I have all the originals but I needed this and I’m glad I got it. I noticed the scratches and dirt- this hadn’t effected the sound at all for me Still- legacy sucks.
Music Direct has (or did) have some back in stock. I was able to score one! I had tried to order one from Amazon, but, they finally canceled my order as they did not believe they would be able to restock it. I was very happy to get the set, I was afraid I had missed out. The secondary market prices for the set are starting to really climb!
As far as i know, they dont keep the original pressing temple of the audio files. As soon as they press it, its done. They might keep it depending on how frequently they are planning on selling it or popularity of the artist. If its been a couple od years, They just re release the record with newest version of that album.
4:00 New records are pretty dirty, and have boatloads of static. I use the following method to clean every record I buy, used or new. 1) a rub in warm water with a little dish soap, follow the grooves, and be careful not to get the label wet, rinse and let dry. 2) using a small rubber spatula, or an expired credit card, apply a layer of Tite Bond II wood glue - again follow the grooves, and do not get any on the label. 3) put the record on a soft towel glue side up, and set a fan to blow over it. When the glue becomes transparent, it’s ready to peel - usually takes about 15 - 20 minutes using a decent fan. 4) repeat on side 2. 5) apply GruvGlide per instructions included. This method will completely clean the record, and eliminate static. Obviously, you need to start with a record that is at least in fair condition, surface scratches are ok, as long as there aren’t any gashes that penetrate to the bottom of the grooves(sometimes even that can be fixed, but it takes more work). Vinyl albums, and 45’s are a lot tougher then you think - I have 50+ year old records that were filthy, and scratchy when I bought them, that now sound better than new. It really works! If you don’t believe me, try it on a thrift store record for a buck, you’ll be amazed.
I purchased this box set a while back on RSD at my local record store (Wild Honey Records) in Oak Ridge TN. I've not had any issues as far as the quality of the records. There wasn't any slight warping or anything like that, but on one of the records (Love Deluxe) there was a small white speck on the beginning of the edge of the record. I've tried removing it with record cleaner and a micro fiber cloth. It seems like it can not be removed. I think it is a record pressing issue from the record pressing manufacture. But it doesn't effect the playback all that much except for a small clicking surface noise for about 50 seconds, which can be somewhat nerve-racking! I did not like the paper sleeves that came with each record, so I put the records in anti-static round bottom plastic sleeves then put them in the paper sleeves. I have the anti-static round bottom sleeves inside of the paper sleeves.

2:14 The font in the new press' cover of Love Deluxe is same with original 1992 press.
Considering I was missing Love Deluxe and Lovers Rock the box set saved me a ton of money. I would agree that they should have done better on the quality control, but I had no warps and after cleaning the LPs (RCM) they were dead quiet and sounded fantastic. The lack of ANY extras was a bit disappointing, Overall I'd go 9/10 ;)
So my mom has a record collection of 1000 plus records from the 50s through the 80s that she inheritedfrom her dad. I will eventually inherit them and I want to take care of them. Some aren't in the greatest condition but a lot of them are decent. They all have original paper inner sleeves that I would like to replace but its just not cost effective to sleeve 1000 records in mofi sleeves. What would be a better budget alternative that will still provide good protection
Thx for the info. I wonder if things are better with the pressing since that had to restock this box set? Means they had to press more copies since those out months ago.
I've noticed most original albums sound better than remasters. Usually, remasters sound super quiet and you have to turn up the volume quite a bit. Also, they tend to sound more compressed and not as wide range as original or even reissues.
"Sade's voice is like an angel descending from the heavens to sing me a sweet tune." - Jarrett New (2017) 🔥 Still holds up! This box seems to save the hassle of individually trying to find near mint versions of these albums on Discogs for big bucks.
The Only collection I own is the Queen collection, and that one is really worth the cost. Al 15 studio albums on 180G & colored/black vinyl, the quality is amazing. It just costs a lot of money😂😂
I’m a HUGE fan of the band too. I was missing Lovers Rock and Love Deluxe so the price made it a no brainier. Although, the box isn’t perfect. My copy (and others from what I’ve read) of Diamond Life had a double label. Lovers Rock was dirty. The bass on Stronger than Pride didn’t go as hard as the original. But on the plus side, they’ve eliminated sibilance so that’s cool. I really like the set.
Nice to see a Hull band on here 😉 The original release of Diamond Life is one of the best sounding albums ever, didn't need no snake oil half speed heavy weight vinyl, just care and skill.
Hi after this video i understand you do not recommend buying remastered vinyl album? If not then how to find original ones and how to make sure that it is so?
i'm just kinda wondering if this box set was necessary, especially with the corners they clearly cut on production? are sade records getting rarer? i feel like i see diamond life and stronger than pride in the used bins all the time
Hey, Jarret. New sub here, and at the beginning of my vinyl journey. 180 bucks?!?! Well, I guess it's understandable because the Sade LP you first listened to, fetches for about 180 or more on ebay...
Didn't have any originals, all on cd. So this was the affordable route for my vinyl collection. With Amazon prime free shipping. Could be better, just don't want spend the cash for original nm
@@dalewiley9208 Sad or not, I am serious. Ask yourself this question; How do we know that the box set sucks? Did you buy it yourself, and know it from own experience? Neither did I. We know it because the dude told us. He's completely honest about the sound quality not being as good as the original records. In my book that's a pretty straight forward review. The box set may be cool in some ways if you're into that kinda stuff, but it comes with a fair warning about what to expect.
I have some swamp land in Florida for sale at a great price. It has a few alligators and snakes. But it is perfect for for your dream home. Your kids will love having their swing sets so close to nature. My guess is you would definitely be interested since I'm being "completely honest".
According to Discogs, This Sade box set was pressed by Optimal Media in Germany. They usually do really good work so it’s strange that the records turned out warped & dirty. 🤔😬
I got some original Sade albums in vinyl and I think the remaster is not bad at all. However the poor protection made some of the vinyl NM- already, especially The Soldier Of Love. What a shame.
Funny you mention the masters possibly being lost... Sade may have been affected by the Universal Studios backlot fire in 2008 which destroyed some 175,000 master tapes.. Could she have been among the approximately 500,000 individual songs lost?
If you break down the box set, it's approximately around $30 an LP. Which, basically is normal retail for most re-mastered albums nowadays. So, you really are not paying a premium and shouldn't really expect any premium items. That being said, a little two-page fold-out inside with the albums would have been nice instead of the back piece of paper. Also, you are lucky you have all the LP's, but for most of us, getting the last three LPs would cost us about $300 - $450 online. So, $180 for all the albums is a good deal overall.
I don't understand why they didn't release the remastered albums individually so people could buy the ones they don't have in their collection - especially Love Deluxe and Lovers Rock because those were released during the CD heyday and their original vinyl pressings are almost impossible to find. Also, I think they should've included Lovers Live and/or b-sides+remixes+extras in the boxed set. That would've been nice. I do appreciate the attention paid to recreating the original album artwork (albeit with slight differences, which I is to be expected). The paper inner sleeve is unfortunate though. However, kudos to them for keeping the pricing affordable. As for not mastering from the original tapes, that is pretty strange... maybe they were too lazy to dig them out lol. Anyway, the original pressings of the first three albums are still easy to find and they still sound good if you can find a clean copy. For me, I got this boxed set mainly because I didn't have the other three albums in any format (lost the CDs years ago - never lend your Sade to a friend if you expect to see it returned lol).
Man I have this question is when you clean your record with spin and clean, how long you let them to dry out, I usually wipe them out with the cloth supplied and put em back in the sleeves and play it the next day, is it bad ?

"Sade's voice is like an angel descending from the heavens to sing me a sweet tune." - Jarrett New (2017) 🔥 Still holds up! This box seems to save the hassle of individually trying to find near mint versions of these albums on Discogs for big bucks.
Song of the day can't get it out of my head - ELO
The Only collection I own is the Queen collection, and that one is really worth the cost. Al 15 studio albums on 180G & colored/black vinyl, the quality is amazing. It just costs a lot of money😂😂
Woah a new vinyl eyezz video!!!
(and a new mark p video too)
I’m a HUGE fan of the band too.
The vinyl legend is back.
Does anyone have the matrix code of the diamond life and promise records from this boxset? Please and thank you
Still saving up for it...(I'm broke)
but after watching your great video, I'm having second thoughts...
Ordered mines today, 113€ on Amazon!!
Thanks for a good honest review.
I have diamond life on cd, absolutely amazing.
I really hope she'll re release each album individually, as well as have a new album for 2021🙏.
Nice to see a Hull band on here 😉
The original release of Diamond Life is one of the best sounding albums ever, didn't need no snake oil half speed heavy weight vinyl, just care and skill.
You reminded me how recently I finally found the download card in my copy of The Endless River by Pink Floyd, after owning the record for five years!
If you bought it off Amazon, you might have the AutoRip (digital download) waiting for you in AmazonMusic
Nope
Hi after this video i understand you do not recommend buying remastered vinyl album?
If not then how to find original ones and how to make sure that it is so?
Song of the day- diamonds-herb alpert ft janet jackson 👏👌
i'm just kinda wondering if this box set was necessary, especially with the corners they clearly cut on production? are sade records getting rarer? i feel like i see diamond life and stronger than pride in the used bins all the time
Hey, Jarret. New sub here, and at the beginning of my vinyl journey.
180 bucks?!?! Well, I guess it's understandable because the Sade LP you first listened to, fetches for about 180 or more on ebay...
Which one have best mastering and sound? New ones or older?
Didn't have any originals, all on cd. So this was the affordable route for my vinyl collection. With Amazon prime free shipping. Could be better, just don't want spend the cash for original nm
Wonder if the masters were in that huge fire that destroyed tons of Master reels in LA a few years ago ?
Thank you for bringing this up
They weren't. Epic Records is a Sony label. They have nothing to do with the Universal fire. Using digital instead was just a lazy choice.
So the conclusion is that besides it totally sucks, this is a cool box set?
You nailed it. Guy's credibility just took a big hit in my book.
@@dalewiley9208 I don't think his credibility has taken a hit. Infact he's very honest about the downsides of this box set.
You must be joking. Then again, you are probably dead serious. How sad.
Que suerte amigo tienes el Box de Sade...espero poder conseguir este Box de esta gran artista una de las mejores del mundo. Saludos desde Lima - Perú.
According to Discogs, This Sade box set was pressed by Optimal Media in Germany. They usually do really good work so it’s strange that the records turned out warped & dirty. 🤔😬
My copy of this was poorly done. As were many of the Mariah vinyl reissues not sure what’s going on
Omg i love Sade 💜😍
I got some original Sade albums in vinyl and I think the remaster is not bad at all. However the poor protection made some of the vinyl NM- already, especially The Soldier Of Love. What a shame.
Song of the day. Eyes without a face. Appropriate in these masked times
Excellent choice. One of my favorites.
Cool box set. I plan getting Gorillaz' G-collection on 2021 Record Store Day 👍
Funny you mention the masters possibly being lost...
I just got a victrola record player and wondered if it is any good
That clap though, slick unboxing
I bought the audio Technica LP 120XUSB recently. You don’t have any suggestions for active speakers to go alongside the player? Thanks in advance
Seeing the text on the spines not being aligned really ticks off my OCD.
😂😂😂
OCD isn't a verb it's a mental illness, you wouldn't say something ticks off your "aids" or "hay fever"
@@ahrrow4204 Well, pollen ticks off my hay fever. :)
The Notorious B.I.G. box set had soft sleeves and was all original in artwork. No codes or booklets
Really good review
Man I have this question is when you clean your record with spin and clean, how long you let them to dry out, I usually wipe them out with the cloth supplied and put em back in the sleeves and play it the next day, is it bad ?
How often are you gonna really listen to them?
