Dear Sir, thank you for your help, i have just finished a huge assignment, using revit to give 3d views of my work. Your video was so handy and to the point, i think i "owe you one". I wish you all the best.

Hi nicadman, thank you , i want to know if exist a trick or tool for attach walls to grids and if the grid moves the wall and the window can moves with this?
This video is so informative. Indeed help a lot however I got a question. I am now doing the purlin which will be placed on top of the roof with the slope angle of 15. How can I drawing the purlin on a surface which is not flat? Anyone knows it?
Hi you create a framing elevation then a reference plane along the angle of the roof or where the purlin should go. Go to plan view and set the work plane to this new reference plane and simply add the beam\purlin. I have just recorded a video for you to demonstrate and will upload this evening. thanks NICADMAN.
Great video for getting started! I've paid for services to try and get me up to speed and they just seem to fly by the basics, assuming I'll import a model. I'm having trouble setting the height from the Level 1 view to the Level 2. An error message indicates "Top Constraint is invalid for the Level." Any ideas?
Hi,Great Video! How do you did you manage to display the beam sizes on the structural plan view? for example your annotation for the "305x127x37 between grid E and F", is it an option that you select? I cant seem to find anything on it.
could please solve this phrase: ( when I started my structural Drawing in revit) None of the created elements are visible in Floor Plan: Level 1 View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings, as well as any Plan Regions and their settings.
thanks alot man that was very useful got a question though, when i try to place the isolated foundation, i click on "on grid", but it keep give me a warning that "None of the created elements are visible in Floor Plan: Level 1 View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings, as well as any Plan Regions and their settings." , am sure that am on the first level though what do u think the problem is .. thanks in advance
well really helpful as i am new to revit structur ,, but a simple question is how do you get the members like footings and columns already in mm?? when i try to add a column or a beam or a footing it shows that the dimensions are in inches and i am not sure i have any sense in imperial units !! any help please ?
+Rakan alhyari Hi there, You can simply type Units and a window will appear from which you can choose the desirable unit of your choice. Glad to be of help.
Hello there, I am a civil engineer. I have a query, when i manually the calculate the quantity for form work, I found out that there is a discrepancy between the quantity generated by Revit and the quantity calculated manually, why so ???
Hi i hope you can help me, I've loaded a family into Revit that are beams. However they show up under Column, is there an easy way to fix this? I've tried changing the family category from columns to Framing but this doesn't fix my issue, thanks.
+Brion Watling I believe at the time of my issue i found a pre-built family on the office server that worked as it should i cant remember if there was anything specific wrong with the first one i'd tried.
hi sir,I am a civil engineering student and I am learning revit structural. I dont have any system to practice it at home ,so I am looking to buy a new laptop or dekstop. I am going to use revit and other structural designing software intensly for my project work. So please suggest me about what configuration should I look for?
shrenik bora Prefer desktop, because rendering programs (3D capable..) need as much value for money: *CPU *Ram *Graphics card also heating would be an often problem if you work on a big project (bad for laptops). In the other hand i use Revit on a 5 year old desktop with a 4 giga ram, AMD cpu with graphics on (no graphics card), SSD and i do my job. With lots of delay but it handles. Its up to you, but i guess with 500 Euro tower you ll be more than fine.
it's quite difficult for first time to make a beam family . But i've solution for u, just put / insert beam family from revit libraries (C/ProgramData*/Autodesk/Rvt2018**/Libraries/UsMetric***/StructuralFraming/Concrete) . Revit libraries contain revit family (.rfa) * if program data not showing on C drive, just check " hidden item " on view tab in windows exploler ** depend on ur revit version, if u cannot see Rvt201x folder or in Rvt2018 folder was empty u must to download it at first revit content libraries (while installation process) *** Depend on ur enviroment (imperial/metric) Hope it's help u ...
10 years on and still one of the best tutorials to get anyone going!
This is how one provides a detail and pure information in a short time. Thanks sir!

Hi, you could use slanted columns to place between the grids, this can be done in plan or a framing elevation.
IT WAS SIGNIFICANTLY AWSOME. THANK YOU
Hi there
One question:
-I cannot offset the grid line A. Is there any hint for that?
Thank you for the video.
Dave, an excellent presentation. Obviously you are an old H&W trained man :)
Very simple and detailed presentation. Thank you very much
Very good tutorial, in some things you're like:
Why nobody ever taught me this?
Over here we have a different type of construction. We have a poured concrete and rebar mesh type. I wonder how to handle that with the software?
Hi nicadman, thank you , i want to know if exist a trick or tool for attach walls to grids and if the grid moves the wall and the window can moves with this?
Great video, Extremely helpful to get started
This...IS THE BEST VIDEO EVER!!! Thank you!! :)
Thanks you sire very nice wish you the best
very informative and helpful. Thanx. New drafter new field.
Thanks for the video. How were you able to show the annotation for the tie beams automatically?
Thank you very much!
question about REVIT MEP 2013
i cant seem to draw beams, can draw gridlines and columns but there is no beam option any ideas?
Check where you created the grid and the height of the columns. Ie are they working from the first floor to ground.
Thanks for sharing, its helpful. Please how did you copy and later deselect unwanted beams at 9.00 of the video. Please help

hi,,did u learn how to do this?im new to revit so i wanna learn how to do that
could please solve this phrase: ( when I started my structural Drawing in revit)
None of the created elements are visible in Floor Plan: Level 1 View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings, as well as any Plan Regions and their settings.
2013 has specific mesh types that can be assigned to the floor, wall etc.
Mighty Thanks.
In other notes .Scouse?
thanks alot man that was very useful
got a question though, when i try to place the isolated foundation, i click on "on grid", but it keep give me a warning that "None of the created elements are visible in Floor Plan: Level 1 View. what do u think the problem is ..
thanks in advance
that's so quick! thanks for the lesson :-)
more complicated one. your lody needs to soft nice. 808(app) should also fit with the lody and the rythm. snare and percussion
that was very helpful, thank you
there are gaps between column and beam, how could we overcome those gaps?
I'm having an issue with tag families. I make them, customize them, then when I load them, they will not appear in my project
well really helpful as i am new to revit structur ,, but a simple question is how do you get the members like footings and columns already in mm?? when i try to add a column or a beam or a footing it shows that the dimensions are in inches and i am not sure i have any sense in imperial units !! any help please ?

+Lee Dryden you figure it out? I've had a similar problem with some custom beam families that I had to make.
+Brion Watling I believe at the time of my issue i found a pre-built family on the office server that worked as it should i cant remember if there was anything specific wrong with the first one i'd tried.
thanks a lot! It was really helpful!
Hi nicadman downloaded revit unzipped it 2min in installation get communication failure please help as new to revit. appreciate Thanks ricardo
Nice piece
Thank you. Great video.
thank u
please provide me how to generate 2d drawings from
DWGs? Go to Revit >> Save as >> DWG
cannot place columns on grid in REVIT 2012 :(
This problem is due to the visibility of the view range. Change the range to include you isolated foundations. thanks
helpful videos
Thank you!
