The only thing better than listening to Bach's music
is listening to Cyprien Katsaris play Bach's music.

I absolutely love the way you play. You add another dimension to the Great Bach already magnificent.Your great emotional intelligence, sensitivity and understanding of what Bach probably tried to communicate emanates from the magical touch of your fingers on the piano.

This is the best version of French Suite no. 2 I've listened. Truly amazing and beautiful. Exquisite interpretation, Katsaris.

Absolutely beautiful. Played to perfection. Bach would have been proud. I hope he can hear this interpretation from heaven.

When I try to play the sarabande on my piano it sounds so sombre, deep, here, the piano has such a beautiful, light and sparkly tone. I guess the recording is superb too. Love it.

Try an octave higher than written its very wonderful there too!

@@AaronGlenn88 :: Thank you for your suggestion, reminds me that Harpsichords often have a 4 foot register which can be used to brighten the tone.
Anyway we should note that this Video is MORE then the Allemande mentioned in the title, it is the FULL French Suite in C-minor.

OBS: Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Air, Menuet, Gigue ... All of them here in this recording, not just the Allemande as the title says. Beautiful!

Beautiful. The suite sounds like an ongoing uninterdupted sequence. Movements seem connected in such a way the listener may not hear dynamic or rhytmic changes so suddenly

I listened to a performance of this same pianist yesterday playing the Bach Sonata No. 6 in E Minor. I criticised the playing on the basis that it was played too fast! Way too fast! I even dared to say that Bach was not present. He was nowhere to be heard! I adamantly refused to subscribe for that reason. I listened to this French Suite No. 2 to give this pianist another ‘chance’ to ‘redeem’ himself. Exquisite! Stunning performance! Bach was present here and he was listening intently! And mightily impressed! He instructed me to subscribe immediately. And I duly did as the Master instructed!

The allemande resembles Fugue in C Minor WTC I in motives on many levels. In fact I am doing an analysis to highlight this, first analyzing the fugue and then the Allemande.

The printed edition of this suite has a number of variants not found in the urtext, which one can find in the Bach Gesellschaft edition. These variant are not really inauthentic, since scores composed during the Baroque period were not the inviolate and set-in-stone sheet music that became more fashionable during the Romantic and Modern periods. Mr. Katsaris adds some very lively and enjoyable variants to his repeats, which is the "correct" way to play Baroque music. When Handel once heard someone play one of his suites with no variations of touch or ornament in the repeats he called the performer "a dull dog".
