      oof the tech for taiwan work i did was wild. i grinded so hard doing that work and came back to take my time on everything else. was not the easiest time this year x_x
      i am slowing down though! esp given last episode's discussion on winding down youtube. that was really hard to keep up with. was like over 20+ hrs a video for just editing!
      i don't think i'm that *great* at time management. i'm probs just above average, but i have really strong stamina for work. i think that comes from studying long hours in college haha

    Just catching up these pods! I really enjoyed this one. Especially the conversation about the infinite half way points and the moving goal posts but then shifting your mindset to the infinite game. And just taking it one step at a time and one day at a time!
    I know it’s cliche but I definitely believe in how life is about the journey and not the destination too. I think about all the milestones I’ve hit, from HS graduation to College graduation, to getting that job etc. but at the end of the day, a milestone is just a milestone, and no one cares what you did or didn’t accomplish, but when you look back you can cherish the little things and the moments of joy along the way.
    One more thing I wanted to add was when the journey feels overwhelming to me, I do try my best to give myself a pep talk, reminding myself just to put one foot in front of the other
    Or not even take it one step at a time but even just one breath at a time. It keeps me going.

    I’m an older listener, not as young and sprung like you both despite Chloe’s previous podcast comments 😉. I appreciated Chloe sharing how attending an event made her feel less than or little by instinctively comparing when she’s very accomplished herself. That is all too relatable. Chloe, thank you. Eric sharing similar sentiments was kind and supportive. Seeing a male friend who is also accomplished, providing support/encouragement instead of pushing his ego, is beautiful to see. And this is constant in all the podcasts I’ve heard. Thank you for that.
    I’m not even in the tech industry nor am I some accomplished person trying to grow my resume or experiences. However, I have always been curious how one ends up in that field or what exactly a PM/creator/designer does. Though mostly it’s the rapport I see between the both of you that attracts me to listen.

    Honestly, 45:20 Eric's comment about needing to constantly improve is so so relatable

  • @KevinYang
    @KevinYang 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

    The desire to constantly improve is SO TRUE. I think that gets amplified with immigrant parents because if they've gotten you to where you are, then to stop improving or say "that's enough" it's time to stop and relax n enjoy, is sort of like wasted potential for both yourself and parents.. which is both good for having that drive, but probably bad for the mind over time. And the gym excuse is so relatable.. because then no matter what, you've accomplished something that's productive and an improvement of yourself that day!

    As someone not in the tech or content realm, I find it interesting and refreshing to hear about moments of vulnerability/insecurity for Eric and Chloe who I view as highly successful, hardworking individuals. Admittedly, one of my initial reactions was coming off a swig of haterade ("They have it so good and make so much money and they're discussing feeling ignored??") but it really goes to show that these conversations are important, we all have our own sets of problems, and that comparison is everywhere.
    Keep up the lovely work & looking forward to next week :)

      @chloeshih 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      haha thank you for the incredibly honest comment. the "swag of haterade" made me chuckle 🤣
      i'm glad you ended up enjoying the conversation! comparison truly is everywhere and is ultra ultra unhealthy 😭i keep having to remind myself that i just gotta do my own thing. that's the best way for me to combat it!!

    I can resonate with Choe's desire to explore her feminine energy more. I grew up very tomboy because I was raised among my brothers and cousins who were all guys, and a family in the trades so cars, tech, and games were my thing for a while. But for the past couple of years i've been definitely exploring and leaning more into my feminine energy and I love it! Feels cool to be able to express ourselves by embracing a wide range of masculine and feminine traits.
    P.S. Lol it wasn't until during the pandemic did I take up learning make-up and fashion, framing them as 4-unit classes to be taken for a semester to build my foundational skill-set. It worked! So now it's not as overwhelming as before and can sometimes be fun.

    I definitely feel the “I do too much but it never feels like enough”/overachiever personality as a child of immigrants. It also causes tension in my relationship where my work is taking up too much time and taking away from quality time with my fiancé. It’s so hard to just chill. I’m applying to an MBA program because I can’t accept that my very stable career is stagnant and doesn’t offer many growth opportunities.

    so grateful for these podcasts, especially this one, I feel so related with the constantly trying to improve yourself to feel like things are moving forward, that part when Eric was mentioning about part of the reasons he goes to the gym and eats clean is because if everything else in his life goes south, at least he is still in shape, I feel so heard and it's crazy how we were built this way 😭

    37:00 - So real
    I’ve been in the stages of starting an agency and have constantly been working. A lot of it is to prove to myself that I can do it. But it really does have this trade-off where I’ve only locked myself and stayed there for days on end and declined my time with others who I care about. I don’t know how to balance this well enough and consistently so hearing that really meant a lot.

    I’ve never related to two people more. When Chloe shared how she felt about introducing herself to people post layoffs, I knew EXACTLY what she meant. As a person who worked in Finance it’s very much the same thing, about where you work and what you do, and so I used to be able to say “I’m Khanya, I work at Google” but post layoffs, I didn’t have my one liner. I moved into content creation too and yup you guessed it Finance people think you’re just doing dance challenges on TikTok. It’s so hard, because similar to what Eric said you’re just grinding, trying to achieve some kind of business success but it doesn’t quite reach your center. I do sooo much and I can’t tell you if I’m any closer to feeling like “I’m enough”. Anyways now that I’ve shared my diary entry to strangers on the internet 😂 I just wanna say I hope you know how helpful these episodes are.

    I think a lot of these conclusions are very normal thoughts to have as someone in their 20s-30s. Andrew Wilkinson, the billionaire, has a book titled "Never Enough". I have a magnetic from the IKEA museum gift shop with a quote by the founder Ingvar Kamprad that says "Happiness is not reaching your goal. Happiness is being on the way." I think that truly resonates with how I'm also on a constant personal growth journey. There are certain interests I have that constantly make me feel like I'm making progress, even though it's small steps each time. I'm approaching my mid-20s and I'm looking forward to continuing to take my steps towards my ever-evolving goals. I don't like calling them goals tbh. I have mission statements for my life.

    Why must we measure the journey in one stop? Maybe multiple stops will make one feel better :)
