Hey Everyone! It's been a hot minute since I released a video. Has anything interesting happened while I was gone?
I've actually been working on a documentary about Japanese identity called "Being Japanese", so that's why the absence on my part. The good news is that I'm now doing the major part of that edit. The documentary won't be released for a while since I have an manga artist working on illustrations, but I'm now back to being able to put the majority of my focus on creating videos here on TH-cam. I have a whole bunch of stuff lined up.
I hope you enjoy this one. I was able to get out of the city and explore some beautiful nature and culture around Shikoku. I was supposed to take my mother and father here on their planned trip to Japan, but you know, corona, so they never made it. So it was mostly me with a little bit of my son Shin and my wife on this trip.

It sounds awesome, but I must ask an economic question--does the owner get a subsidy or housing allowance from the local govt? Even restaurants in cities barely eke out profits. I wish I could do something I love without worrying about being foreclosed or where my next meal is coming from...

Shodoshima and the olive stuff is really interesting. It's the only place in Japan that grows olives. For a long time Japan kept trying to establish olive groves and they just wouldn't stick. It took several tries to find the right place, and that's shodoshima. They have lots of Greek architecture around the island, and they used this island to film the live action kiki's delivery service film. The olive foods are great, and I for one was shocked how delicious olive ice cream is!

Good to have you back Greg, like a warm blanket hearing “hello world” again after not hearing it for a while and glad you are better. We all need a break now and again. Lovely video, that last island with the cats is a place I’d like to end up in life. Beautiful.

Amazing architecture in that town, and of course, Japan's beautiful natural scenery. Camera work and editing are stellar in this one, Greg. Thanks for your hard work.
