  • I recently watched one of Jay Hoskins' videos, in which he chopped up a drum break on the Elektron Octatrack, and used an LFO to trigger random slices to create an ever-developing and changing drum pattern. This video shows you how to do a similar thing on the Akai Force, as well as a useable way of integrating the technique into a performance, using the crossfader.
    Here is the Jay Hoskins video that inspired me to try this technique: • Frenetic jam with the ...

    You can also use the Envelope follower set to produce a random LFO and assign it to the sample slice. This then randomly chooses which sample to play and a simple one pad pattern can evolve endlessly since every time it triggers a different slice (section) of the sample will play.

    Great video. I used to do this exact thing in ableton with my APC 40, which has a crossfader. Drumfills for days. My Akai Force is arriving tomorrow - yay!

    I love this! I actually traded my OT for an Akai Force. No regrets, but I did miss the randomness that can be created with the crossfader. Now, I realize that I can do practically the same stuff on this machine.

    • @MaxipokMusic
      @MaxipokMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Excellent, I’m glad you liked it! This is just a quick demo, if you chop the sample up into smaller slices and spread it across more steps, you can bring much more randomness into the pattern, it can get very Octatrack-y! I really hope Akai introduce conditional trigs at some point, that’s the only thing missing really…

    • @ildarkinildarkin
      @ildarkinildarkin 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MaxipokMusic Isn't trig condition the same as probability but has more options like 1:2, 2:2 and so on?

    • @MaxipokMusic
      @MaxipokMusic  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ildarkinildarkin It’s similar, but the Elektron boxes have more logic options - you can set trigs to play if the one before does / doesn’t, etc. So there are ‘conditional’ states, not just probability.

      @@MaxipokMusic Oh, ok, that's right. BTW TE OP-Z has really nice sequencer with such sorts of things too. Heard somewhere that Elektron worked with TE when creating their sequencer.

    Nice trick. Could also be useful for randomized melodic phrases.

    • @MaxipokMusic
      @MaxipokMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes absolutely. There’s also a ‘cycle’ mode that’s great for melodic parts when finger drumming, you can chop up a melodic progression and put it on the layers then play through it just by hitting that one pad.

    I was just about to join your patreon … even go for the £4 option.. then I saw your charging people VAT? Adding it onto the price WTF! Anyway what ever just letting you know l really appreciate your content but that’s why I didn’t. Just left me with a sour taste. Like most people I can’t claim back and I’m taxed enough.

    • @MaxipokMusic
      @MaxipokMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry you feel that way. It’s not me charging VAT, it’s the UK government, I don’t have the ability to remove it. I actually priced that tier at £4 so that with VAT it still came out under £5. I don’t get any of that VAT amount, it all goes to the government, I will also have to pay income tax on the £4, so I agree with you about being taxed enough.
      Edit: also, Patreon take a cut, as do the payment transfer people, so of that £4 I would get about £2 in the end. Just putting it in context…
