Could just be that it does not seem to be a true main line pokemon game. Just a side test game. Wait until the next game comes out, we shall see if they even keep this setup. Probably the deciding factor is if this game pleases or fails... Might fail just because people expecting a mainline game like this, but ironically kills the potential for one actually happening, and them just going for a traditional setup again.

@@merccc1 It seems to be going well, I'd like Legends to be a secondary series getting new games along with the normal Pokémon games... I hope they actually figured out that "open world" doesn't just mean "big empty space where you do the same gameplay as older pokémon games". Personally, I'm hoping that Nintendo was looking over Capcom's shoulder when they made Monster Hunter, because the field research from that game is pretty much what I'm hoping for and what I think I'm seeing here. Except I want it like 10 times deeper. I want the primary focus of this game to be observing and catching specimens to incrementally fill out bits of research. I don't want this to be another kid on a generic "best that ever was" journey, I want to be a field researcher out to write the first Pokedex. If I see a rare Pokemon in the wild, I want the excitement to be not just to catch it, but to be able to observe it and maybe find some new clue that will fill out more of my data. I've conquered enough gyms and champions in my time, let me be a scientist for once.

You learn the monster attacks, learn your weapon combos, learn how to use the enviroment to your advantage, and there's a real satisfaction to mastering a monster so that you can dance through its attacks based entirely on your skill and knowledge of the game.

Part of what I’m hoping for is a reprieve from one of my long-standing pet peeves in the franchise: tons of Pokémon have been nigh unusable based on stats, stat spreads, or movepool for a VERY long time.
Some Pokémon have movepools that don’t fit their stats(Electivire, Banette, Sceptile), but others simply have unreasonably bad or disjointed stats and/or ridiculously limited movepools that sometimes make otherwise incredibly cool Pokémon into something infuriatingly useless.
(Castform, Ariados, Girafarig, Komala, Plusle/Minun, Lumineon, Carnivine, Ledian)
If they’re updating stat-spreads as a whole, like they seem to be according to some recent trailers, I sincerely hope that they fix their recurring bad habit.

I would love to see quests in this game, this open world could really prosper from it.
Imagine this, your walking through a town you haven’t been to yet and you find what seems to be another traveler but they seem very worried. You go up and talk to the frightened explorer and they talk about how he saw a woman near the summit of a mountain, “she was calling for me, calling for help” he says, but before he could get to her a bad snowstorm started and the traveler had to leave the mountain. He explains how near the summit of the mountain there’s a little opening in the mountain and that the woman might be there so you go off to go save the woman. When you get to the mountain it seems really calm as if it is too calm, you get up to where the traveler told you where he was and you see a couple backpacks on the ground. You see the woman (who’s not dressed in snowy attire but more like a kimono) she calls for help and runs to the small opening in the mountain so you go after to her. When you get to where she was your not met with a woman but.. a boss froslass! You can either defeat it or catch it to save the future explorers of the mountain.
Not only does this add so much lore it also goes back on the Pokédex information, not only that it would be YOUR encounter that the Pokédex refers to in the original DPP games!
I really hope they implement some sort of quests or anything like it!

Arlo, if the information I’ve gathered from the recent trailer is correct, you have empty poke balls and ones filled with your own Pokémon. If you throw an empty ball on a low level Pokémon you sneak up on, you catch it. If you toss one of your used poke balls with one of your team in it at a tougher Pokémon, it imitates a battle. Failing to catch a weak Pokémon with an empty pokeball or startling an aggressive Pokémon also initiates a battle.

It's acutally much more complex than that. It's not about weak and tough Pokémon, it's all about the sneaking mechanic. If a Pokémon notices you, they will go into alert mode, they will reflect every Pokéball you throw at them, the only way to catch an alerted Pokémon is weakening it in battle.
To sneak up on Pokémon, you can hide in tall grass (funny how things got inverted) or use items like berries to distract the Pokémon, smoke bombs to hide yourself.

One of my biggest hopes for Legends Acreus is to make the Pokemon feel more like real animals than ever before. What I generally mean by that is that I want to look like they are actual organisms living in an ecosystem.
Like I want to Snovers in only snowy habitats, I want to see Geodudes in only cave habitats. I want to see Aipoms in trees and Hippodon's in sand pits. I don't want Pokemon to be interchangeable with where they live, each ecosystem needs to offer exclusive Pokemon that fit into that ecosystem. I also want the Pokemon to act like animals, they need to naturally move around, eat, sleep, and maybe even hunt other Pokemon. I want social Pokemon to be in packs and I want solitary Pokemon to be by themselves. And critically, the animations need to make the Pokemon feel alive, I don't want them to look like static models that abruptly load in.
And I know there are limitations to the technology, obviously it's going to be impossible to get the 200+ Pokemon to act and live like real animals in a game but I need to see some kind of attempt that is respectable giving the current level of technology. I've wanted Pokemon to really feel like living beings in the games forever and this is Nintendo's first real chance to make Pokemon come alive in the way players have always dreamed them to be.

I agree. That would be so nice. One thing I like about the New Pokemon Snap is that it has lots of cool moments where Pokemon are just living their lives in natural environments and interacting with each other. The only downside is that the player isn't necessarily free to explore and interact with the Pokemon in the same way that they might be able to in Legends: Arceus. I haven't played Snap myself, but from what I've seen, it's very charming. Would love to see those kinds of interactions in a mainstream Pokemon game, but can understand why it could be difficult to do well with current hardware limitations. Not a programmer, though, so I could be wrong.

Everything I like/love about Legends Arceus ON PAPER could come out feeling undercooked or just boring.
▫️The Diamond and Pearl Clan leaders _Adaman_ & _Irida_ ? Love their designs and on paper, they could be VERY interesting and crucial to the story. _HOWEVER_ I worry that they're just gonna be one note or a retread of Team Magma/Team Aqua from the original Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald games. There are many theories about them but... I'm not sure if the characters will end up being all that interesting in the end.
▫️Battling the Noble Pokemon with a combination of those balms you throw at them and occasionally throwing out your OWN Pokemon could be fun... But for how long I wonder? I think it's gonna be super tedious after a while. Especially if the attack patterns are laughably easy to spot.
▫️I'm mixed on the research stuff. On ONE hand, the tasks so far that we've seen from the previews involve just catching a Pokemon (getting a Shinx for someone or getting a Buizel that is larger than the one the task giver has) or having a Pokemon perform certain actions (X) amount of times but is there more than just that? Because I think it's gonna get boring real quick otherwise despite how fun the gameplay loop itself COULD be. Also... How much freedom do you actually HAVE?
I'm cautiously optimistic but there's still a part of me that doesn't want to fall for the hype trap, ya know?

  • @erihseh4017
    @erihseh4017 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

So basically you can catch Pokémon without battling it only if it doesn’t spotted you, but when it sees you it either run away or enter a state in which it will deflect your pokeballls and start attacking you, so you have to dodge his attacks and then throw your own Pokémon into action to start battle. And then it’s like you have to weaken it in battle and catch like in older games.
They definitely ramping up this whole process of encountering and catching Pokémon. Heck, in latest preview they showcased what you even can lure pokemon in real time by using a berries or other food they like, so they will eat it and while they are at it you can sneak up on them and catch them.

    Hey Arlo!
On the note of battling: considering how rare pokemon centers probably will be seeing how people don't seem to actually ENJOY pokemon in this time, battling may be a last resort considering you may very well have very limited healing options. So once your pokemon take damage, that might be it and you have to play throughout the rest of the mission with that chip damage still there. Meaning even strong pokemon in your team might eventually be whittled down by constant fighting, leaving you in a real bind if you haven't even faced the alpha pokemon yet.
    Battles:
The new battle mechanic; styles, uses up much more PP than normal play, but particularly powerful pokemon will use styles against you. Not just your pokemon, according the trailer it may also use them against YOU THE PLAYER IN BATTLE. WHich may make styles absolutely vital if you want to survive. But they have limited the amount of PP by a lot. THe trade off seems to be that attacks that once didn't do damage (like stealth rocks) now DO do damage. This will change a lot of things.
    LEAK NEWS BELOW: GAME LENGTH
According to a very trust worthy source, they said the game was so incredibly long that the play testers weren't even sure how many people would be able to 100% or even finish the game. Apparently there was so much to do they almost gave up. So in terms of content in terms of things to do, the game will probably be extremely long. So keep that in mind, There are also a pretty good number of new forms, and many of them are apparently very formidable.

Nah, I'm with you. I also am still a strong believer that the national dex should return. Not in the "Burn down GF HQ if they don't do it!" kind of way.. but like... the excuses were.. just that, excuses.
Absolutely colossal franchise with boat loads of money, all the models are made by Creatures Inc (Not GameFreak) and remain primarily unchanged from X/Y, animations are recycled. They -should- have a database of stats, moves and models that can be moved between games. If fans can do it, no reason they can't, they control what engines and tools they use after all.
I just feel they lost the magic in the transition to 3D. The game started having less care put into them, there are less easter eggs, smaller post-games, they just feel 'safe' by comparison. Maybe it's because they were good at 2D, then had to learn how to make 3D games? I was willing to let that be the reasoning for Gen 6, their first attempt at a mainline series.. but.. here we are. I dunno, I just kinda gave up. Cutting features that were introduced just so you can add a new one, instead of building on it all... ehh.
Diamond and Pearl remakes were just the DS games, with some features removed and ported to 3D. A remake in the most direct way, unlike HGSS which added instead of removing.

the combat system is interesting: it seems to mix some bravely default daring mechanic (the strong style/agile style reminded me of brave and default) with some dark souls type dodging. if done correctly it could be a blast. besides, the emphasis seems to be on cataloguing pokemon rather than using them to fight, so i expect some pokemon snap-like elements in this too. they said pokemon have different behaviours in this one: some are friendly, some are shy, some are aggressive, so i think they'll have different catching methods according to how they work in their environment. i guess you'll fight the aggressive ones, sneak on the shy ones and interact/catch the friendly ones, and it will be interesting to just sit there and discover how pokemon behave.
this i think is a given.
what i hope for is for the exploration to be compelling (beautiful landscapes, acceptable amount of interaction, points of interest, secrets to find and rewards for wandering around), and possibly a good story. hell i'd settle for just a story, not even a good one. but there's potential for a plot in this one, so please don't waste it.
oh, and new forms for the starters please. i wanna love samurott but damn he ugly. so far i'm torn between picking cyndaquill and rowlett which i equally like, so i wouldn't mind being surprised last minute and going for the water starter (my all time favourite)

Something I wanna mention: Legends Arceus actually made a huge change to Stealth Rock.
Stealth Rock has been a meta-defining move for ages in competitive. A lot of Pokemon are almost unusable because they're weak to Rock, so switching them in deals a quarter of their health, and effects that require full HP are even less usable. Unless you have a Pokemon specifically built to counter entry hazards, Stealth Rock stays up for the entire battle, crippling these strategies, and even then if you can't deal with the Rock-setter, they can just keep switching in and setting it unless you have your own setter to lock them out.
In Legends, Stealth Rock sticks to the Pokemon currently in battle, and presumably deals damage when that Pokemon switches out and then back in.
It still counters Pokemon weak to Rock, since it deals damage on hit now, but now it doesn't affect other Pokemon in the party. If you can KO the setter, you can immediately switch in your Flying-types without worrying about entry hazards. A huge change to the meta, and hopefully a sign of things to come for competitive.

I would really like it to have real time battles, I always had a problem with the turn base system. Not that it's bad, it has been done well in Pokémon for the most part.
But I would love to have to make a quick-second decision about what move to make. It would really help with the immersion of "I'm a trainer fighting a battle with my partner, if I make a mistake we suffer, but if I keep a cool head we will succeed."
In the Anime, Ash and other trainers have to make spot on decisions in order to win, that is something that I have never felt in a turn based game.

My main hope is that there’s more significant things to do other than catching and battling wild Pokémon and completing the Pokédex, I’ve never been a fan of getting every little collectable in a game or 100%ing games, most of the time it’s just a tedious side quest that I can avoid, and most of the time completing the Pokédex is exactly that, a tedious side quest. The only time I’ve actually completed the Pokédex in a Pokémon game is in the Let’s Go games, where it was actually kinda fun to catch Pokémon, even then tho it was tedious at times. Catching Pokémon does look more fun to do than in previous games but still, if you absolutely 100% have to complete the Pokédex to beat this game, I will be VERY disappointed. Pretty much, I just want the Pokédex to stay an optional side quest, or at least make it so you don’t have to capture and study every Pokémon in every area to progress in the story
Also forgot to add, I hope it has a good amount of replay value. Pokémon games IMO are mostly pretty fun to replay, IMO the best ones to replay are BW2, ORAS, the Lets Go games and SWSH, and then games like Sun and Moon, while pretty fun games overall and great for a first playthrough, they’re also really tedious to replay because of how many damn cutscenes and dialogue there is, so I’m hoping Legends Arceus will be good to replay cuz personally, I’m more for replaying games than having a crap ton to do after the game

I guess one of my main hopes is that the world feels vibrant and full of life. In the most recent trailer, the open world just felt... kinda empty. The gameplay hardly showed any wild Pokemon, and the ones it did show were mostly the same four again and again (shinx, starly, buizel, and bidoof) It's possible they don't want to give too much away before the game releases, but at least show some variety in Pokemon. Maybe some bird Pokemon flying in the air, or some fish Pokemon swimming in the ocean. The Pokemon they showed were only in grassy fields. Im not trying to be too picky or critical, and I'm trying to keep an open mind. I just want to explore a Pokemon world that feels like... an actual world. At least SOME resemblance to what I saw in the anime show when I was a child. Is that too much to ask?

That is how I have always felt, sword and shield were there first mainline games on a console so they played it safe on the whole but introduced some new elements such as the wild area.
They then released the DLC were they expanded thecwild areas to the whole of the maps and now legends were the whole game features roaming pokemon.
I feel sure that the next future mainline game will feature a wild area type world with free roaming pokemon and maybe even battling in real time just like legends. They are testing the waters to see what works and trying out new mechanics for the next major entry in the franchise.

While an individual Pokemon comes along every so often that I do really love, I don't think I have truly cared about my team since X and Y. That is what I'm missing from modern Pokemon games, and what I feel is the reason I struggle to finish them now. I have three badges in Let's Go Eevee and I didn't even both getting the Diamond/Pearl remakes (first time I've done that); the experience of Pokemon for me is putting together a team that I care about and exploring the world/ getting strong together with them. I don't know if it's the handholding, or how easy the games are, or how uninspired the world is, but I just don't get that spark anymore and I want to so much. I understand that gets harder the more time passes and the more games come out, but lately they've been moving backwards in reaching that goal. So I guess that's my answer, I want a Pokemon game that can make me care again. And I am nervous as well, because this seems to be the best chance we've ever had at a game being able to do that, so if it fails... well, that will extra suck. Pokemon is big enough that another chance will probably come along eventually, but the question of when becomes pretty heavy. Alternatively, if this game does fail, it could make Gamefreak too scared to try moving out of that box for a while.

@@commonviewer2488 You're not using Agile Style for raw damage, you're using it for Toxic + Confuse or Paralyze + Confuse followed with Bite to make the enemy helpless. (Paralyze also lowers speed.)
Or you'll lower Accuracy 2 levels for free then switch off Agile Style... and this is all without Speed Stat factoring.
With speed stat slow Pokemon look at 0.5-0.9 turn rates while fast look at 1.1-1.5
Agile Style's focus on doubling turns means you get 1.0-1.8 and 2.2-3.0 respectively.
This isn't factoring in speed buffing where you're looking at 2.0 norm and 4.0 Agile.
Even without EV/IV speed maxing is going to shatter the game, and effect abuse is going to be rampant in any PvP so I really hope PvP is not a thing in this game for that reason alone.
If by chance Agile Style ignores speed and sets you to a flat 2.0x turn rate.
Tank Power with status abuse still works while any good non-agile locked Pokemon are high base speed.
Fast Rock types with Rock Polish are scary as well as this is multiple different self buffs including speed.
They basically have to make Agile Style also reduce the odds of inflicting non-damage effects by at least 50% including positive ones not be broken at which point Agile Style then starts to become completely and utterly worthless.
But base Speed should still apply due to the ATB like nature this game looks to have.
Unless they completely butcher Agile Style to the point it is worthless it is exploitable.
Unless they completely butcher the active battle system to the point it is a non thing it is exploitable.

I'm sure any of us can come up with so many new ways to freshen up, enhance the series. If they take it seriously imagine what they could do:
    World to feel alive:
    * Have roaming trainers in the wild who also catch, battle wild pokemon. Offer you assistance if they see you struggling for some reward or whom you can offer assistance, rescue
    Good mission variety:
    * Mission, hoping it's more than catch X, Research X or Evolve X. Hope there is find X item, find X location or land mark. Maybe in future rescue or battle missions such as fight X with Y, or fight X using Z move on Y and win. Some sort of challenge where you have to use your wits
    Revamp the battle system:
    * Instead of turn based, how about a real time system? Where based on base Pokemon speed or move priority you have an action gauge in real time. Eliminating the wait for your turn can speed up battles, freshen them up, make them quicker.
    Make crafting more essential:
    * Have a mix, match and substitute crafting system, that rewards experimentation and exploration. Substitute a different material to the recipe and see what happens. Whether the item evolves into a better version, mutates into another, down grades, gets destroyed or has an additional effect. Have quality variations on all ingredients. Have ingredients that you can't buy and items you can only obtain from crafting. Or make then expensive where you buy them in emergencies but normally you craft them, so you are incentivized for it
    Pokemon Variation:
    * If an individual pokemon isn't completely defined by its species but also partly its nature. So all starlies don't run, or some run faster, others attack you. But the species behavior can be the dominant, but a low chance some sort of change, bring some life into them. Way better change should be those boring animations, but perhaps that's off the table. Maybe accessories that are generic and any pokemon can wear? Doesn't have to be a lot, even a few or even archetype specific to cut down on dev time.
    Pokemon Companions:
    * Have your pokemon follow you, give it commands liketo stick close to you, or free roam. If you can see your own pokemon roam the world, interact with the world and other pokemon: run away from aggressive ones or suffer damage if they get hit, even outside the battle phase just from the wild area, or start their own fight, maybe even fight a battle on their own in the background while you gather stuff or catch other pokemon. That way they can fight and level up on their own, or lose faint and be sent back to the village and unavailable for a bit to heal up. High risk, high reward. Find items on their own. It feels like a waste to only see your pokemon in the battle screen and no where else. Maybe even evolve while they journey automatically unless holding a stone to prevent it. So it returns evolved to you. Would give your party a lot of personality like a version of daycare in a way, but you actually have a chance to encounter them during your adventure or they are deployed to just one map and you always find them roaming and training themselves in that area when you return no master where you go
    World upgrades/Customizations:
    * A purpose that you strive towards like what Arlo said. Improve your town, facilities, make some difference in the world. Change it in some meaningful way, leave your mark on it. Secret based returning, town building upgrades, farms of Oran berries?,your own safari with caught pokemon charge other trainers and collect fees each day, NPC trade posts, routes something that you can improve in some say

Legends: Arceus is gonna be make-or-break for me. If the game turns out bad, then I’m gonna be done with Pokémon for the foreseeable future. And that’s honestly kinda scary to think about for me, as I’ve been a fan of Pokémon for pretty much my whole life. My first game ever was LeafGreen, and I’ve played every game since. But, at the same time, I’m tired of giving Game Freak second chances. They’ve yet to meet the standards they set for themselves back when the Gen 5 games came out, and with how non-intensive the Pokémon games are there’s no excuse for the obvious lack of innovation, progression, effort, and _evolution_ after all this time.
