Thanks Andy, Great to see the old photos; I think that they're the first of these boat 'trains' that you've shown. Takes me back to when I used to play with my cousin in Hawbush Road, Leamore. We used to stop playing to go onto the footbridge to watch them go past (presumably to Walsall power station).

Co-err -Proper canal boating as hardly (if ever) seen.
I bet all concerned had a great time reliving and re-working the past.
My crew has retired/ resigned thus no longer available yo work the pointy bit, so tha boat has been sold. Your videos are all I have left to remind me of some 40 years boating both of which I can relive through your videos!
Best wished - Mike N previous owner of "Capricorn"

I think the crew were exhausted by the end. 2 days to get there and 2.5 back. They literally spent half the time clearing the prop.

Stumbled across your channel by accident as was looking into the mining and industrial history of the West Midlands. Both myself and my partner have become adicted to this channel. The clarity of your presentation, knowledge and research add to this most wonderful series of historic content. I know the area quite well and certainly some of the journeys you have made, I have memories from the 1970's as a child (rather 'ferral') around Bradley, Tipton, Bentley, Darlaston, Wednesbury etc, a lot of the decay and destruction of industry and the 'identifiers' of the old industry. In my opionion (for what it is worth) you have created an excellent balance of narrative and visual media that remain interesting thoughout even if binge watched. To be honest I did expect this series to be a little 'nurdy' for my partner but as I say we have both been VERY entertained and have used OSmaps and Google earth to trace you around on your travels. a lot of the time going - 'wow, I remeber'.. I am actually suprised by some of the 'lost' content for example the Bentley canal from what is now Bentley Bridge to Bentley Mill lane, as a kid I used to play at what is know as 'Field Park Playground' just off Churchhill Road by Western Avenue and as such played on the 'old canal', I just accepted in my head that was a 'Beechings Rail line' - Thanks to you, I now know that is a lost canal and it makes perfect sense! Anyone with a remote interest in history should watch this channel especially more so if you have a connection to the area,. Andy, thank you for you work its both entertaining and informative. A job done really well!!!

Thank you for your comments - I have to admit that I like making them. I am off to explore the old tub boat canals of Telford next.

@@lifeat2.3milesanhour57 Ah, just over the road from me there are the remains of an old basin in Granville PArk... We have explored some of the old inclines too. We look forward to your new episodes. Really enjoyable!

A marvellous sight. The old photo showed the boats loose-coupled on long lines. Presumably each butty had a tiller and helmsman back then. They would have been more cumbersome with a full load.

Depends where they were going tbh, if locking or loaded theyd have one per boat if short haul empty theyd run with a helmsman every other boat maybe.

@@grandadelmosracing even loaded I thought they didn't have a steer to each boat?

Another fantastic video Andy, I only wish I knew that this was happening and I’ve had been there a day earlier! That said, we did have the pleasure of seeing the boats pass the bottom of the garden on Bank Holiday Monday evening, and we went around to the next bridge at Wednesfield High Street and witnessed the lads deconstructing the train and mooring up for the evening in a side by side formation outside the Dog and Partridge pub. As you said, (sadly) a once in a lifetime opportunity now. Thanks again.

All in the trip took them 5 days to achieve - fun but a lot of effort.
