Does the 95 scheme stop accruing value on the 60 the birthday date? My bday is January, but I was going to let mine run until the following August in order to accrue a full 1/80th, as I started in the nhs in August (1990). Is that incorrect?
When does the ‘best of the last 3 years ‘ clock start? If I am going to draw down my ‘95 scheme pension on my 60th birthday in January 2027 , is the start January 2024?
Thank you, this is very helpful. I have a question about part time hours calculations. If you work less than full time, how are membership years in 1995 scheme calculated? Is it based on % of 10 sessions or on hours worked out of 37.5h? My payslip says I work 32.59h per week in the breakdown of the payments but my 'standard hours' on the top of the payslip reads as 7.5 (I assume that equates to 7.5 sessions). 32/37.5 is a bigger number than 0.75! The numbers they use never make any sense to me...
Difficult question: will we actually be retiring at 68? What if not enough people are around to pay our pensions in the future? No matter how much you put in your pot, are we currently paying for the current people’s pension? If we are what happens if everyone lives longer that we expect?
If you have an NHS Pension you don't have to worry about the "pot" Its a state backed, index linked income. Worth reading this to learn more www.medicsmoney.co.uk/nhs-pension-scheme-guide-by-medics-money/ Hope that helps?
It is one of the more advanced ones, which he makes clear at the beginning. Essentially if you've ever paid a pension tax charge, and especially if you're in any of the groups mentioned at the end, you should get a professional to look at it (or look at it yourself if you're a pension wizz, which not many of us are!)

Much of this is unfortunately completely incomprehensible to the average medic...
Yes, unfortunately
