- It doesn’t get much better than this… Daiwa’s new (and yet another attempt at the world record for the longest product name in reel history): the 20 Tournament Basia 45 SCW. In a word, it's 'gorgeous'. Almost pearlescent metallic shades collide with flashes of red to create something that looks as good as it performs. We reckon Daiwa have come out of their shell a little bit with reel design in the last few years and this is one of their best lookers of all time. It’s not flashy or ostentatious, but it’s also not afraid to be visually appealing, which perhaps couldn’t be said of this model’s slightly too muted predecessor. We love it, and sorry, Daiwa, we won’t be returning it! (N.B. What are the chances of another two?!)

Lighter fishing gear is undoubtedly more pleasurable to fish with, whether they sit in the rests most if the time or not. It is debatable as to whether they will enable the average caster to put yards on their cast. Even casters such as Terry Edmunds are undecided. In fact if I remember rightly he still uses 6000t for alot of his tuitions. The only real that I reckon may stand a chance of pushing a few more yards are the new Shim MGS. With its already larger diameter spool and now with a 45mm length, it is now the largest spool around. Only time will tell, but I'd bet that the new MGS spool size will be the new standard kit very soon.
I bought 5 and 3 were faulty and the 4th froze up after one fishing trip… returned got them exchanged and 1 out of the 3 replaced was also broke (the reel just spins in place without going up and down).

Those are one sexy bit of kit, one that i'll never own but damn they look good. The short tail of the reel looks a lil odd when i'm used to my bargain priced Shimano's which still have the drag on the rear. Love the colours and styling on these so much though.
Its a shame that some of the comments are negative towards these reels and those that may purchase them. I have been carp fishing rather successfully for 30 years, I bought a set of these the moment they landed in the UK and I absolutely love them, they are amazing to use, feel fantastic and worth the money I paid, it is all relative though, if you can afford them and you want them then buy them, just like a car you can buy a 20 year old car for 500 quid or you can by a £100k Range Rover or if you have the money a £1m Bugatti, they will all drive to you the shops and back.. If you fancy a set of these and can afford them, take my advice.. buy them!
Mate had a pair serviced and the guy who did them said they are the same, as cheaper daiwas when you take them apart. Nice reels but a rip off.

Something for the Tackle tarts! Ridiculous money!!
They say tackle often catches more anglers than fish and this is a great example. He mentioned how light these are as a major feature but they spend most of their life on a rod on a rest. Being light matters if you are holding the rod for extended periods. It's 5oz lighter than previous models, so what. If you are trying to land 30, 40 and 50lb+ carp then 5oz makes no difference. What do these reels really do to justify the price? Like a lot of things these days it's technology for technologys sake. You can buy three excellent reels for the cost of one of these without a great deal of difference in performance. These will appeal to people with too much money to waste and the all the gear no idea brigade. I certainly won't be wasting my money.
@@davestone2939 They may be tournament casting reels but they are being marketed as carp fishing reels. The guy in the video bought three for that purpose. My comments were based on the intended use based on this video. People can buy what they want but in my opinion the price of these cannot easily be justified.

His point stands, if your pretentious enough to wanna spend that much money then crack on. Don’t try to insult others who clear have more sense than you,Money does not catch fish 🤙🏻
I won't be buying a set or even one but lightness of a reel will help when cast long range

@@davestone2939 well if you can fish further a distance, with these overly priced reels. It kind of goes without saying. My own little world? Just because you spend copious amounts on fishing gear doesn’t mean everyone else does. We will be going back and forth about this for as long you want. But for me it’s a big no, I’d rather recreate memories with a big trip then be able to show of my long distance reels…

Tbh I think Shimano reels are just that bit better made, and yes, I have used both. The old 6010 aero gt for eg, cannot be beaten, the proof being-you can still buy them secondhand off eBay.
If you want to treat yourself to quality put your money in rods! buy quality rods, that can be matched and one replaced if needed in future from a rod making company! they will cast accurately and further and be enjoyable to play fish on. reels are just winches all you need is a good drag and good line capacity, quality long lasting reels can be bought for £150 each you would be able to buy 15 of them for the price of three of these 🤪

For the price don’t you think it should be a satisfying unboxing like an apple phone with fancy packaging and that ,in the video just seems no different as pulling a low price reel out of a cardboard box

For £750, a lump of wood on the end of the handle should have had more thought. Why not a contoured end for your thumb and index finger?
iv got the 45 scw qd ot emblem. and love my reels . even if i had the money to spunk on these basias i just cant see that they will be worth a monkey more than what iv got . but in all truth . they are some sexy mf bits off kit . lol
I have the Diawa scw 45 QD windcast paid £240 for a pair looks are very close prefer my ones all blacked out , and saved £1200 by not buying something that looks almost identical and does the same thing .
Apparently a lot of the internals are the same. Saved a fortune there mate.
Don't get me wrong I have the qdx but sorry 750 those fish don't swim past and go omg better jump on he's rig cause he's got expensive reels if your on fish they will take your bait only my opinion

Shimano are the top reels these look ike sonik reels please guy's dont spend 750 quid stay well stay safe tight lines.

No they don’t, I own both. Basia’s are my go to.
Still heavy than the aero Mag's, and nowhere near as smooth, can't see how they are the best.

If they went up in value then yes I would invest but the price goes down…. it’s like me spending 500quid on spirt level. makes no sense
Ridiculous price for a reel, all my fishing gear which includes carp and lighter course gear comes to under £350, most expensive item is two SONIK Vader X rods at £42 each, my reels are £15 each Lineaffe which had now 3 years with no problems, at the end of the day its tools to catch fish and if you look after tools they are unlikely to let you down! unlike some tackle tarts with more money than sense lol.
A 500 pound car does the same has a 50 grand car, a 200 grand house does the same gas a 50 grand house, a 150 pair of shoes does the same has a 20 quid pair of shoes, see the pattern? Buy what you want and not moan about what others what to spend there money on. I'd prefer a 500 quid reel than a 50 quid reel wouldn't you?

WTF £750 for a fishing reel? my car is only worth that and car is much more needed than an agonisingly overpriced reel! at least my car can get me about and give some freedom, what next a reel with Diamonds on it selling for a million!

When I started fishing it was a cheep sport and fun now it just a big rip off £750+ it not cheep sport no moor it just a rip off how can we get kids in to the sport when kids way over priced and how long before you get hit over the head for them y your fishing to rob them it bonkers 😛
