    Her low charts numbers at the final end has to do with chart rules based on streaming, you tube viewers, tik tok downloads and not on sales as before. She's still strong on selling records. Such a shame!

      Well, as far as I know, she lives in the UK so maybe people see her more British than she is. She is truly loved in Britain.

    • @paulmirabella9960
      @paulmirabella9960 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Since she was with Stock aitken and waterman she was definitely bound to do better in the UK considering they were consistently in the UK top 10 for all of the late 80s and early 90s. Post SAW I believe since she was signed to British record labels (deconstruction and Parlophone) she was probably marketed better in the UK and prioritised UK as her main music market. Regardless she’s done amazing in Aus and the UK and is very loved in both countries.

      @ mrbear1302 She's had 9 number one singles in OZ. 5 No. 1 albums. This video is wrong and therefore so are you.
      Edit: I'll also add that looking at the itunes charts for the singles of Magic and say something were both Top 5. So that's another thing none of you take notice of.

    • @larrycj4382

      Yes, but radio's influence (at least in the US, is becoming less and less as the audience continues to shrink due to other listening formats diluting the audience. Also Billboard is using a much smaller portion of radio airplay than ever before. ITunes seems to be the US leader in showing what people are immediately buying (but not streaming). In most cases, new songs are adopted by radio after they make their first appearance on the iTunes chart. Also radio still only plays the lead single from an album and not all 10 or so songs, even if all make the charts (like Taylor Swift who may only have 4 or 5 actual singles). I agree that the age of an artist where radio decides is no longer current is getting lower (waiting 3 or more years to release new material does not help an artist). You can see some songs listed on iTunes singles chart were not introduced by radio - some are from commercials, non- music videos, streaming series and other formats, so the people are now buying what they want to hear more now than ever. In the past, radio really controlled what we heard and what we didn't. Even if listeners requested new songs be played that were hits outside the US, they were told "we don't play that here" (Kylie is an ex., sadly. Also, I have made requests of new songs on the Billboard Hot 100 and was told the same thing!). Today, radio is trying to be more in touch with its actual listeners, but it is too late. With "older" artists, they tend to stay true to their sound and do not radically change it, just to be current. I think that is why they may sell less singles but still do well on the album charts and definitely rule with selling out concerts. My advice is what I do: listen to radio a little to hear what is current, then look at iTunes and listen to a sample of new songs, Shazam a new song you may be hearing anywhere, if you like it and most importantly, keep supporting your favourite artists' music and track when they have new releases.

    She has had an amazing career!! I am in the US and have followed the world charts over the years. It still amazes me that she did not have more success in the US. On both sides - US and UK there are examples of artists having great fame on one side but not the other. There are hit songs on this video that I never actually heard before, that I actually like and will listen to them more. I think if Kylie was interested in becoming bigger in the US, she would have done more promotion here. In a US interview several years ago, she said she enjoyed traveling around the US unrecognized except by UK tourists!

    • @impossiblefighter1697
      @impossiblefighter1697 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Larry C Actually she’s promoted all of her albums since Fever on US television, and even toured there twice. The problem is that radios don’t play her songs, and it’s almost impossible for a pop singer to sell records without radio support.

    • @larrycj4382
      @larrycj4382 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@impossiblefighter1697 I have not seen her much on US TV through her long career, only during the 2 periods where she had US hits. I discovered "What Do I Have To Do" (from this video) which has similar production to some of Madonna's big hits from the early 1990s. This song should have been a US pop hit! Very frustrating! Also how US radio treated her and other artists. Now, US radio has a much smaller influence on the charts with streaming given priority along with digital sales. These formats have given more songs from "outside" the mainstream more exposure than mainstream radio's limited choices.

      Kylie Minogue's music is too campy for the United States. When she tried to make R&B oriented songs like 'Word is Out', 'Red Blooded Woman', 'Chocolate', to appeal to the U.S. they completely flopped because people in America are not interested in listening R&B tinged music from blonde haired white women with so-so voices like hers.
      Only white women with serious vocal prowess are taken seriously with R&B music like Adele or Christina Aguilera. She also had zero credibility with the Alternative Pop-Rock music she was making in '97 too.
      Zero credibility with Country Pop music she was attempting to make in 2018, too much musical genre shape shifting to taken seriously in America outside of the American Gay community.

    • @davidmchugh2959
      @davidmchugh2959 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      blacknetsmed that’s simply not true... her label didn’t promote her in the US like they should have. And she was so successful everywhere else I don’t think she actually cared. She barely lifted a finger in the US and still managed to score two top ten hits 12 years apart.

    • @blacknetsmed
      @blacknetsmed 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How are you shocked? Her disco music was never going to take off in the U.S. because she didn't have firm credibility in that field of disco/dance and the market was crowded with International dance imports like UK Based Cathy Dennis, UK Based Soul II Soul, Italian Based Black Box, Austrian Based Enigma and Bingoboys, UK Based Lisa Stansfield. Kylie Minogue shapeshifts her music too much to build any credibility in any specific music market.

    • @rkyrkrdo
      @rkyrkrdo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Adding to blacknestmed's comments, at Kylie's career beginnings as a singer, her producers at the time (Stock Aitken Waterman/PWL) "hit factory" brand of pop wasn't as popular in North America unlike elsewhere outside the clubs/dance charts and a niche fanbase. The few acts that were able to crossed over had some peculiarities: Dead or Alive and Bananarama (the "Second British Invasion" was still going strong and in the 'nana's case an already established career), Rick Astley (with his strong R&B voice leanings, just like Lisa Stansfield), Donna Summer (for very obvious reasons) and to a lesser extent Mel & Kim (which were successful in the dance charts and were ready to tour the US before Mel's battle with cancer and sadly her death). By the time Kylie came on scene, SAW shift their focus to a more bubblegum teen pop with their later acts, in particular her boyfriend at the time Jason Donovan; and the US was already saturated with their own brand of teen pop with the likes of Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, New Kids on the Block, Bobby Brown, etc. Kylie would have had some strong competition. Then along came the 90s and with it some changes in the music scene towards a more "harder and edgier" dance sounds at the time like the artists blacknestmed mentioned, and the SAW brand of pop was already on it's way out. With that said however, they missed in my opinion a great opportunity in North America by not releasing her "coming of age" hit "Better The Devil You Know". This song would have fit perfectly with the rest of the hits played in radio stations throughout the area.

    • @rkyrkrdo
      @rkyrkrdo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dark Horse 2020 has a point there. Management might be the issue for her lack of promotion in the US while building her UK/European success. (a.k.a...the "if ain't broken why fix it" syndrome!!)
