You guys are so awesome 💛 Thanks for the love!!! Please ignore the one random image that flashes across the screen 😂 There is always something that goes wrong when I edit video. Cheers!
Lol!!! It’s crazy how much I watch playback as I edit, yet there is always one little thing that is missed. At some point I will need an editor or second eyes before uploading!! 🤓
@@sarahlyndsay I always send my videos to a friend or 2 before uploading. I've sent so much time watching them that even as u watch my brain tunes out a bit. I noticed that on a music video I just produced. Missed small little things that others caught. Thankfully before its released.
Fantastic video Sarah! Your videos are always so informative and the way you explain your process from start to finish is so interesting. I look forward to each new post and learn many things along the way. I love the end result of this portrait too. Very well done!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. So interesting to see how you produce such beautiful images. I feel your 'look' in this shot is more of vulnerability with a little confidence as well.
That edit is outstanding Just out of curiosity, have you ever played with the "Neural Filters" in Photoshop for skin smoothing? I've found that just a hint of that filter can result in pleasing images. And I'd consider that expression in the final portrait to be of slight apprehension more than anything, which kinda creates a little story around it.
Apprehension. Yes! I love that John. I love reading what others see.. it helps my mind expand. As per skin retouching techniques, I have no used any sort of filters but would give it a whirl! I slowly build up my retouching and actually use more a dodge/burn technique with a few patch tool removals (wrinkles 😁) but that’s about it. I don’t mind giving myself a little glow, however, I want the skin to be true to my own (minus a few wrinkles 😂) Cheers John!
Well done! I shoot landscapes mostly but I'm just about to do three portrait shoots this week. This was just what I needed. I will be using my 50mm as well and I'll make sure to up my F-stop a little. Thanks!
So interesting, the thought pattern and your journey to taking this shot, I am not sure that I would have the confidence to do a selfie photo shoot. To old and wrinkly now! Love your videos ❤️
Love this Sarah, your honesty is always encouraging as well. I think you should incorporate this into your work! But I understand if its off brand for you as well. I very often shoot things simply for the growth and not because its something I really really want to have. And its always worth it! Learned new things everytime. Shooting with you was a super educational experience for me, my mind was on high absorb mode the whole time 😅
This was fun and insightful. For me, the end result was, like you said, not a look of strength. When I look at the models face, she appears to be gazing at something in wonderment. Almost on the verge of saying something like, "Oh my gosh!!!" Very impressive. You do know yourself well. I hope you paid the model well! You should make her sign a non-compete clause. Lol On the tech side of things. What screens sharing software did you use to show the editing? Also, I love that you are a Canon shooter. At what level of camera do you need that app to work? Just one with wifi? I am still in the Rebel EOS t3i world. LOL, it is like me simple and gets the job don. ( to a point) thinking of moving to the T7i or T8I. I need the flip out LCD screen. Great video, as always!
Loved your introduction as I've seen this naturally from you in Iceland. Always smiling and bringing out your bubbly personality. Another great video you presented and being so positive about the person you are makes it so encouraging to others. Keep up the fantastic work you do, and I loved the end photo of you.
@@sarahlyndsay I'm always waiting to see your next video. Love seeing your smile and it makes me smile. Not only that but your videos are very informative and interesting. :)
Years ago I thought about doing photography professionally. But, the business part of it took all the fun out of it for me. So, photography has been a life long hobby for me and I've enjoyed every minute of it. But, I admire anyone who can balance doing photography professionally and still enjoy the creative artistic side of it. Love the end result of your photo.
I was in the same boat about 5 years ago after getting laid off. I gave myself six months to see if I really wanted to pursue photography in a professional capacity and fairly quickly realized I didn't want to hustle to find clients, income, etc. Since then I've definitely expanded, grown and improved as a photographer while resuming a career that I actually enjoy for the most part.
I really like it! Thanks for taking us through the whole process from concept to final photo. I agree with Brad in that I see a look of anticipation before trying something new and potentially risky. But no fear. I always learn something new from your videos.
Enjoyed watching this so much! Beautiful work Sarah. I guess I’m a bit of a generalist too. Thats the first time I’ve heard that name. I love to do portrait work just as much as my landscapes. Just don’t get as much opportunity for taking portraits. Another great video Sarah. Thankyou!!
That beautiful face should be on the cover of a magazine. I mean seriously editing skills are remarkable. From what the photo was to the masterpiece it became, Girl it should be on a cover.
Great job! It helps to have a gorgeous person to photograph like you did…and then your creativity made the final image something very special. Thanks for taking me along!
You mentioned that the end result feeling of the photo almost looks frightened due the the expression. I would have to disagree. I feel like it shows courage in the sense that you do almost look startled/frightened however I feel like the photo was taken In the split second when in the fear you chose to do whatever was scaring you on. Like If you were in the woods and something started you, you turned around in fear but the photo captured the moment it clicked in your head that you were going to fight instead of run. I hope that makes sense. I love this image! thank you for sharing your amazing talents with the world. :) have a great day
This is GORGEOUS!!! Love your process and editing skills, and me coming from the darkroom days I always feel that editing is 2/3rds of the creative process. Yes you want to get it right in the camera but we also need to realize that the SOOC RAW file and/or Negative is the blueprint on what we want to build on. In long editing processing I always have to step away from it at times because it is Easy to do over edit when I get immersed in it to the point ruining it. You on the other hand looks like you have mastered efficiency with your editing, that alone is inspiring... Awesome work! 🥰👍
Great result! Advanced editing is a daunting task that eludes me, but i'm just an avid enthusiast so that's ok! I normally find it hard for the model to portray power/strength when sitting. Standing with your feet at least shoulder width apart and then rise up on your toes and turn your upper body just slightly while facing the camera and look right into the back of the lens and "click". It just make you feel physically strong and that reflects in your expression. Love your videos, thanks for sharing!!
You should let me know when you're doing another one of these and I'll bring my leaf blower... I mean wind maker and get your hair flowing. Lol. Kidding. I love the way this turned out but I have to disagree with you thinking you look afraid at all. You know what I see? I see that little moment of hesitation before jumping off the cliff to the water. Before making a big life change. Before jumping out the door of the airplane. It's almost like excited fear. A moment of hesitation before the plunge. I really like what you've done here. I recently did some headshots for a buddy of mine where I got to flex my skills in PS as well. And even learn some new skills. I'll share it with you on Twitter. This was a great BTS and now it also gave me an idea for the group I moderate as well. So thank you.
Yes bring the leaf blower to add some wind to the hairs great idea hehe!!! Thank you so much for you comment Brad. Always appreciate it and enjoy the read 😁

Awesome portrait image - very evocative. Some advanced post-processing here re the background and snow (I need to learn these techniques)!

I'm wondering do you use any form of lighting/flash in your self landscape portraits.
Not usually, but I am not afraid to try!
