I learned an interesting fun fact about one of my all-time favorite serials, "The Phantom Creeps". Bela Lugosi plays a mad scientist who's having way too much fun using his killer robot, abusing his henchman Monk, becoming invisible, and blowing stuff up with the element he discovered. One of Robby's most unusual guest appearances was in an episode of the Wonder Woman TV show. It was set at a sci-fi convention and is the only time I know of that Robby was shown to be a costume, rather than an actual robot. The episode also had a couple guys dressed as Sandmen chasing a couple girls dressed as runners. As I recall, this was some kind of mini-show being put on as the convention announcer introduced them.
That's the one where Rene Aborjonois is a thief who escapes by hiding in the Robby the Robot costume. (I know I spelled his last name wrong.)😊 Robby also made an appearance as the suspected murderer in an episode of "The Thin Man" television series with Peter Lawford.
Oh man, I didn't know about that one. I think I need to see that. The Logan's Run reference alone has me intrigued. But I am also really interested in old-school con culture. Back in the day when it was only the true fans going.
@@williambilyeu9801 I recently did a re-watch of the Dobbie Gillis series from the 60s. He also appeared in that one as a robot working in the music industry. He could compute what was going to be a hit or not. Really neat. And speaking of René Auberjonois, I also recently did a re-watch of the Police Academy films. I had totally forgotten he was the bad guy in the 5th one.

Man, you could get a serious amount of acting work playing a gorilla, back in the day! Nice to see some love for The Colossus of New York - that’s a great movie that not many people talk about. I recently watched the Aztec Mummy movies and the robot fighting the mummy was definitely a highlight. Another fantastic video, although your delivery in this one was kinda robotic!!!

@horrorhands879 - A great deal of the effectiveness of the Collosus, was in no small part attributable to the amazing and unique Piano score by Van Cleeve. The massive weight and pitiable soap operatic sorrow of the Giant were conveyed exclusively through that one instrument. Creeeeeepy.
The thing I love about these 50s robots is most of them were made on shoestring budget but they had so much charm modern bots are too slick with modern material and CGI making it easier but they have lost something

Lol, I love these 50's robots! And it was always so considerate of the characters to not run as fast as they could so the robots could catch up with them! I do think Roman is a robot. It says so in the title after all! I love that in the poster for some reason The Beast from 20,000 fathoms appears in the corner. A couple of years ago they sold a Robbie the Robot toy at Wal mart and I snapped it up as soon as I could! Great list!

I've been pretty well versed in 50s sci-fi since I was a kid thanks to the Horrible Horror VHS tape from the 80s. But that was mainly just trailers and short film clips. With the actual full films, I've been playing catch up since this stuff started hitting DVD. Though I did have a few on VHS. Always a pleasure to hear from you, Tom.
I remember the actor who played Lurch on Addam's Family playing a robot on Star Trek. He was similarly dressed to the "Colossus". Boy, what i would give to see the creature from "Alien" fighting a robot. Sigourney in that exo-skeleton loader was close. But no cigar. Jim Cameron robot movie? Come to think of it, the only robots in Jim's movies are the the human looking synthetics. Terminator vs. Alien! Sweet.
Now that you mention it, I've seen quite a few pieces of crossover media. Robocop vs the Terminator. Aliens vs Predator. Batman vs the Predator. Yet, I don't think I have ever seen Terminator vs Aliens. Seems like an obvious choice. I wonder if I just missed it.

They are quite cool. I've wanted to cover some classic Dr. Who stuff for awhile now. But it is darn near impossible to get away with the footage. The one time I tried, my video was blocked.

I don't think I've seen any of these movies. I may have decades ago when I was a kid. I'm currently watching the Lost in Space television series and did you know there was an unaired pilot that didn't have Dr. Smith in it? Could you imagine Lost in Space without Dr. Smith? I think the unaired pilot was devoid of personality, and Dr. Smith brought personality to the show, although his personality could be OTT at times.
I'm about 98% sure I watched that on tv as a kid. But I have never re-watched it, even though I have it on DVD. I just haven't been able to bring myself to partake of LiS without Dr. Smith. And I agree, he brought the personality to the show. I like the first season, don't get me wrong, but when it got fun and light is when it really came into its own for me. I do think you should check out Forbidden Planet. It really is an exceptional film for the time. And seeing Leslie Nielson in not only a serious role, but also as kind of a jerk, is really interesting as well.

As a five-year-old. My dad had to take me out of the theater after I freaked out after about five minutes of Godzilla. or year later or so I convinced him to take me to see for bidden planet and made it all the way through without freaking out lol.
I know what you mean. As a kid, I would watch with ease stuff that would have terrified most. Yet the most random, unexpected stuff would scare me. For example, the tree in the first Poltergeist film.

Holy Shit! I saw The Colossus of New York once, on tv, over 50 years ago and never forgot the final scene of the little kid turning the robot off by slipping a hand under it's tunic. I've always hoped to find out the title of that movie that never left my memory!

Robbie the Robot is the ultimate 50's robot. I'm not surprised that he was number one. The Colossal Man is cool, Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy is hilarious, and Robot Monster is the ultimate cheap suit creature from the 50's. As a kaiju fan, of course I love Mogera. I wish it had been in the film more. Another favorite of mine were the robots from Target Earth.

In the early 90s, someone, I have no idea who, did a Lost In Space comic where Judy and Penny were all sexed up, half clothed, stepping out of the shower and teasing Don. Somehow, I don't think it was officially sanctioned by Irwin Allen. Personally, if the show had stuck to being realistic, there's no way Don and Judy would have lasted a year before having to get married. Marta Kristen was hot.

Preferably the Mark 1, Mark 2, and Mark 5. (I just find an iron robot with J Jonah Jameson's face in the viewsreen chasing Spider-Man to be hilarious) 1. The giant robot from the album cover to "News of the World" by Queen.

@@AtomicSnackBar Apologies for taking so long to respond. I personally haven't see it but I don't know if you're familiar with Glenn Erickson's DVD Savant reviews but I trust his opinion. His review of the transfer follows: _Released only a year after the first DVD disc, Olive Films' Blu-ray of The Colossus of New York shows exactly what Blu-ray adds to a presentation. The excellent enhanced transfer of this B&W Paramount show is sharper and has more of a range between the darkest black and the brightest white. Even better, the mono sound mix sounds more dynamic; we hear more detail in the weird sound effects._ Hope that info helps.
The lead actress in Devil Girl From Mars is an exact twin of my deceased wife Carol. When I'm feeling very lonely for her, I watch the film. It helps a lot.
Ro-Man seems to be the primary inspiration for Minion from Dreamworks' _Megamind,_ except the "gorilla" part is the "robot" controlled by a fish-like alien fish-bowled in the "head."
If you like those 'boxy' robot designs, have you checked out the Servo Robot from 'Dr Who' ("The Wheel in Space" :1968) or the Quarks from the same show ("The Dominators" :1968)? Both are great designs and indeed, there have always been a few good robots throughout the history of the show.
I sure haven't. Other than the Peter Cushing films, I haven't dug into classic Dr. Who yet. I've been wanting to, but my watchlist is pretty huge presently. I'll go look those up, though. @ AtomicSnackBar - Actually, it goes historically deeper than that. I'm not sure of the exact reason, but for a short time the Italians refused to export wine to the British. Since England didn't have the right soil to produce it's own, they were dependent on Italy's rich vineyards. That left the English with the only other choice, purchasing from the French. And you should be aware of what bitter enemies they have been historically. So, when Leo was hitting the Pubs during a PR visit to London, he ran into Will. Words (name calling) were exchanged and the rest as they say; "is history."

I remember back in the 80s. A video distributor was releasing the Aston funny movies with extras. White music videos and a version with current music in the background. One very odd moment that you don’t see in a lot of the dubs distributed. This one Dr. Crup approaches the entrance to the Sepultura mausoleum. There is a shop where the robot is standing at the top of a long staircase. For a split second is really sparked my interest. Noticing the robot has no knees. Then it cuts to the scene of the robot at the bottom of the stairs walking forward. I almost choked on what ever food eyes eating. Feeling amused and ripped off. I really wanted to see that robot navigate those stairs .
How could you leave out Kronos, the walking skyscraper robot? When I first saw "Devil Girl..." I thought the robot's name was: "Johnny". Actually there was a space robot called: "John" from a Russian (I think) sci fi movie, "Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet".

Riding "Blaze," is that Jerry Mathers? Doesn't sound like his voice though. Tid bit: Ross Martin's real name was Martin Rosenberg. A friend's dad went to school with him. I rescue Robby from a future scrap heap in my novel "World in Exile." I don't call him that, for copyright reasons, but the story picks up 50 years after "Forbidden Planet," with lots of callbacks to the original film. In the story, Robby gets a technical update, except for his iconic head... and his sardonic personality.
I don't think it's Jerry Mathers, but I have seen future stars pop up in several of these classic toy commercials. There's a good one with Kurt Russel in it. And that sounds like a neat story. I always enjoy stuff like that. I make references like that in my writing as well. Too many Philip J. Farmer novels over the years, I guess.
I haven't seen many of these but did watch The Colossus of New York, it was a bit sad much like RoboCop in that he'll never be human again.😢Robot Monster on the other hand is a funny bad movie, talk about a film made with whatever they had lying around Eg. bubble machine.😄 I think I saw the famous Bronson Caves again recently in Outlaw Johnny Black, it sure has made a lot of appearances.
That's a good point. One could easily make an entire video just on the Bronson Caves and the different things filmed there. Robot Monster, It Conquered the World, and The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra immediately come to mind. I even want to save Fred Olen Ray's The Phantom Empire.

Interesting/odd thing about the Aztec Mummy series collection is that it's missing the first film "The Aztec Mummy" and has Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Mummy instead.
I haven’t seen the first three. I will check them out. According to Charlie Gemorrah’s daughter, she and her father worked on the Martian in War Of The Worlds all day and night. They made one one Martian. They didn’t have the time to make another one. Charlie Gemorrah was in the Martian while filming the demolished farmhouse scene. The scene where the Martian “runs” after getting hit with a flashlight thrown by Eugene(or Gene)Barry, Charlie was pulled so hard he nearly crashed into the wall. Robot Monster. I don’t remember how many times I saw this movie on television when I was a kid coming home from school. It and the movie The Flying Serpent were on at least twice a month where I once lived. The thing that caught my attention was the title sequence with the science fiction magazines. I loved that part. And the music was memorable, too. The music was composed by Elmer Bernstein. The Colossus Of New York. As robots go, this one was scary. So scary, that my sister didn’t allow me to watch it because she believed it would scare my younger brother. Boy, when you have one television in the house, expect a battle with family. Robby the Robot was in an episode of The Twilight Zone and Mork & Mindy, as Mork’s robot friend who learns a little something about humanity. Movers from The Mysterians. In the DVD commentary two Japanese filmmakers talked about a remake of The Mysterians and using the Mogera, same design and scale size. I’ll be waiting for the video of this series.
That's a great story. I want to say, and don't quote me on this, that Bob Burns also told that story in commentary for the Criterion release of War of the Worlds. Too bad I didn't think of that when I covered the Martian. Would have been a good tidbit. The title screen of Robot Monster is one of my favorites. Really unique and perfectly sets the tone of the film. Speaking of Bernstein, the newest volume of the Golden Age of Science Fiction soundtrack series features quite a bit of music from both Robot Monster and Cat-Women of the Moon. And man, the list of Robby's cameos is quite large. Another viewer was telling me about a rather memorable appearance on an episode of Wonder Woman. The next part of the 50s Sci-fi Robots series is already up, but I do have a special, supplemental episode in the works as well that should be pretty darn spiffy, if I do say so myself. Thanks, Gary.
Heh that Robot from Devil Girl from Mars is just too cool! I do wish we knew who the suit actor was though. George Barrows was all over the place for the longest time too.
It's easier these days to find out who so many of these uncredited roles were played by, yet there are still some that are a mystery. Chani. The alien from The Man from Planet X. The robot from The Monster and the Ape. And good ol' Barrows. I was thinking about doing a Top Gorilla Men episode one of these days.
@@creech54 Well, that's kind of a debated issue there. It really depends on who you ask. Has some definitive proof finally come out that I'm not aware of? I'd very much like to know for sure.
@@creech54 Oh, it's really quite interesting. I talked about it a bit in my Man from Planet X review. It's been linked to both Goldin and Billy Curtis. It's probably not Curtis, the height is off. The possibility of it being Goldin goes back to Robert Clarke. But other members of the cast have refuted that, saying he had no idea who it was. Many do still believe it was Goldin, though.
Jeremy, of course, is a proto-Cyberman, long before DOCTOR WHO introduced the cyborg race... and it goes about as well for him as it did for the Cybermen. Lemme go find the sequel and see if KRONOS made the list.
A shot of Daleks! They straddle three genre classifications - 1. Robots (technically cyborgs) - 2. Atomic radiation mutants. - 3. Disembodied brains (stretching definitions a little bit).
I would really like to feature the Daleks in something. Like you said, they have it all. But the one time I tried using Dr. Who footage my video was immediately blocked. Been Dalek-shy ever since.
@@rondemkiw4492 I've experimented with that idea a bit. Tried it with High Plains Drifter in my Weird West episode and the Ovions in my 70s Aliens list. I'm just wasn't sure that holds folks' attention.
Great movie choices to feature. Maybe they weren't all robots in the sense we know today but the Czech word Robota means "forced labor" which was first used to describe humanoids in a play. Not such a bad set of choices after all. Maybe somebody here can help me. (Spoilers Ahead) I've been looking for years for a robot movie that features a scene at the end where a clanking robot comes down some stairs to face a desperate man with a gun and a woman, who I think is forced to be there. The man shoots at the robot, the robot disintegrates him, and as the woman is about to be killed a few scientists enter the room with a device that disables the robot. I remember the ending because it was all I saw of the movie on TV back in the 60's . I don't think it was in color but we only had black and white TV's at the time. Does someone remember the title? All fun little movies. All fun robots. Have not seen the Aztec Mummy/Robot film. One robot that scared the crap out of me back then was from Target Earth. It really creeped me out. You have a very impressive collection of sci-fi memorabilia.
Yes, indeed. I'm a big fan of both Target Earth and its robots. I know I did a stand alone review on that one, but I can't recall if I've talked about just the robot anywhere. And speaking, sorta, they did a Target Earth kit that was pretty darn spiffy. Have you seen that one? And thank you much. I've been trying to beef up the classic sci-fi stuff of late. Unfortunately, my dedicated sci-fi shelf is just out of frame. But if you look closely, you can see a Ro-Man helmet and Mechani-Kong's legs.

Yes, saw the Target Earth kit. It is a resin. Looks awesome. Also saw that there is a #D file out there for printing. My son is into 3D printing of Warhammer and other things. So I am going to talk to him about what he can do. I may start searching the Net for all kinds of Sci-Fi and Monsters that can be 3D printed. He has printed and painted some neat stuff.
@@garfieldsmith332 The eyeball guy is an Ultraman villain. I'm only a casual fan, but I really like eyeball creatures. That is awesome about the 3D printing. I would really dig seeing what you can find and what you can do with it. I was looking at 3D printed miniatures for use with HeroQuest recently. There is some really neat stuff out there.
@@AtomicSnackBar I will have to check that out. I have the Ultraman series from the 60s. The colour ones. Not the first series. I have found The Crawling Eye on Utube. Will get my buddy to download it and give me the file to burn. There is a B&W and colour version. Expensive to buy on the internet. Sometimes I luck out with a bluray from Europe. They say Region B but the some I get are Region A/B/C. . I am amazed at what can be 3D printed. Saw a video where a guy was fixing an old Cassette machine. He 3D printed some gears that were broken and got the machine working. Truely amazing. .

For the record, yours is the one I care about and write on - I'm not a stalker, my wife watches programmes about this sort of thing - I'm not normal, but not anything to worry about. I know you don't watch new things but Fallout is very good, although I didn't like the first or last episode - but I really liked the rest. There's a lot that should appeal to you - at least on paper, but it's always a personal thing.
Jason, my friend, I would be worried if you WERE normal. So carry on being exactly as you are. I've seen videos like that in my feed but have never watched one. It's definitely the hot button issue of the moment, but I as well find AI strange and interesting. And believe it or not, I have had a mild interest in Fallout simply because I am a Walton Goggins fan. That guy can do anything and do it well.
Ooooh I liked this. Brilliant stuff - just fantastic. I smiled all the way through. Colossus is one of the Topps Trumps Horror figures - so it's nice to know where that came from. Surprised Robbie is higher than RoMan - still haven't seen that film - soon to be remedied. Thank you for such a great bit of entertainment - just brilliant.

We had the metal rideing horse had springs that as you bounced the bounce moved you foward ...catch 22 if leg was near joint of body and leg it pinched your flesh
I met Robbie the Robot back in the ‘60s at Harry’s Ace Hardware on Magazine Street in New Orleans. I was around four or five years old at the time. He scared the hell out of me and everyone else, as the man in the robot suit was obviously drunk. Robbie was rude and crass, much to the audience’s surprise. He made a little girl blow up a balloon until it popped in her face, the entire time yelling at her to, “BLOW!!! BLOOOW!!!!! BLOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!” The children were terrified and the adults were mortified! Then, at the end of the event, Robbie gave everyone ‘autographed’ black and white 8” X 10” photographs of himself that came out of the horizontal slats in his ‘neck’. I remember crying a lot, and the evening was most traumatic for all who attended.
Oh man, it's a shame that happened, but that is a heck of a story. Not many can say they were there to see a drunken Robby the Robot cause a scene and horrify a bunch of people. How long did you hold onto that 8x10?

I don't know about the rest of the film, but the Morlocks were certainly creepy in the '78 version of "The Time Machine." And I can see their resemblance to Jeremy. But with fashion and style like that, it's hard to fault them.
@ AtomicSnackBar - True dat. The glowing eyes and emotionless faces of that version of the Morlocks were probably the best part of that version. Although just as inaccurate as that 2002-3 dreck. To their credit as well, they at least stayed underground at night.
The Collossus of New York seems to draw Frankenstein for inspiration. Or maybe that’s what I think of when I see a brain in a jar. The Robot Vs The Aztec Mummy seems like a really neat concept as well. Even though there has been several VS movies to come out over the years it still seems like an under utilized idea. I have to be honest I was expecting to see the Robot Monster making a appearance on this list considering I know how much you love that one. The same could be said for Robby The Robot. So I’m curious now did Moguera have a stand alone film? Because if so I wasn’t aware of that.
An excellent point. Because other than The Robot vs the Aztec Mummy, I can't think of another vs film featuring a mummy. Can you? But no, Moguera never had a standalone film. He did, though, pop up later on in Godzilla vs Space Godzilla and several video games.
@@AtomicSnackBar There is actually a Frankenstein Vs Mummy movie from 2015 directed by none other than Damien Leone director of the Terrifier films. The movie was pretty decent and had great character designs. It had some issues mainly due to budget but overall I had fun with it.

I learned an interesting fun fact about one of my all-time favorite serials, "The Phantom Creeps". Bela Lugosi plays a mad scientist who's having way too much fun using his killer robot, abusing his henchman Monk, becoming invisible, and blowing stuff up with the element he discovered. Worth a look.

Not sure if you are a toy collector, but there is a really nice, though really expensive, Phantom Creeps robot figure coming out.
One of Robby's most unusual guest appearances was in an episode of the Wonder Woman TV show. It was set at a sci-fi convention and is the only time I know of that Robby was shown to be a costume, rather than an actual robot. The episode also had a couple guys dressed as Sandmen chasing a couple girls dressed as runners. As I recall, this was some kind of mini-show being put on as the convention announcer introduced them.
That's the one where Rene Aborjonois is a thief who escapes by hiding in the Robby the Robot costume. (I know I spelled his last name wrong.)😊 Robby also made an appearance as the suspected murderer in an episode of "The Thin Man" television series with Peter Lawford.
Oh man, I didn't know about that one. I think I need to see that. The Logan's Run reference alone has me intrigued. But I am also really interested in old-school con culture. Back in the day when it was only the true fans going.
@@williambilyeu9801 I recently did a re-watch of the Dobbie Gillis series from the 60s. He also appeared in that one as a robot working in the music industry. He could compute what was going to be a hit or not. Really neat.
And speaking of René Auberjonois, I also recently did a re-watch of the Police Academy films. I had totally forgotten he was the bad guy in the 5th one.

I had a rocking horse when I was a kid in the 70s, but I never saw one where the legs moved. And my horse bucked me off more than once.
They were an unruly lot ... rocking horses. But at least they were easy to clean up after.

@horrorhands879 - A great deal of the effectiveness of the Collosus, was in no small part attributable to the amazing and unique Piano score by Van Cleeve. The massive weight and pitiable soap operatic sorrow of the Giant were conveyed exclusively through that one instrument. Creeeeeepy.
The thing I love about these 50s robots is most of them were made on shoestring budget but they had so much charm modern bots are too slick with modern material and CGI making it easier but they have lost something
I agree in full. I'll take a practical effect, even a cheap one, any day over the CG messes we have now.

Lol, I love these 50's robots! And it was always so considerate of the characters to not run as fast as they could so the robots could catch up with them! I do think Roman is a robot. It says so in the title after all! I love that in the poster for some reason The Beast from 20,000 fathoms appears in the corner. A couple of years ago they sold a Robbie the Robot toy at Wal mart and I snapped it up as soon as I could! Great list!
People just had better manners back then. They knew it was the proper thing to do to slow it down for killer robots or to trip for atomic beasties.

I've been pretty well versed in 50s sci-fi since I was a kid thanks to the Horrible Horror VHS tape from the 80s. But that was mainly just trailers and short film clips. With the actual full films, I've been playing catch up since this stuff started hitting DVD. Though I did have a few on VHS.

I remember the actor who played Lurch on Addam's Family playing a robot on Star Trek. He was similarly dressed to the "Colossus".
Boy, what i would give to see the creature from "Alien" fighting a robot. Sigourney in that exo-skeleton loader was close. But no cigar. Jim Cameron robot movie? Come to think of it, the only robots in Jim's movies are the the human looking synthetics. Terminator vs. Alien! Sweet.
Now that you mention it, I've seen quite a few pieces of crossover media. Robocop vs the Terminator. Aliens vs Predator. Batman vs the Predator. Yet, I don't think I have ever seen Terminator vs Aliens. Seems like an obvious choice. I wonder if I just missed it.

They are quite cool. I've wanted to cover some classic Dr. Who stuff for awhile now. But it is darn near impossible to get away with the footage. The one time I tried, my video was blocked.

I don't think I've seen any of these movies. I may have decades ago when I was a kid. I'm currently watching the Lost in Space television series and did you know there was an unaired pilot that didn't have Dr. Smith in it? Could you imagine Lost in Space without Dr. Smith? I think the unaired pilot was devoid of personality, and Dr. Smith brought personality to the show, although his personality could be OTT at times.
I'm about 98% sure I watched that on tv as a kid. But I have never re-watched it, even though I have it on DVD. I just haven't been able to bring myself to partake of LiS without Dr. Smith. And I agree, he brought the personality to the show. I like the first season, don't get me wrong, but when it got fun and light is when it really came into its own for me.
I do think you should check out Forbidden Planet. It really is an exceptional film for the time. And seeing Leslie Nielson in not only a serious role, but also as kind of a jerk, is really interesting as well.

As a five-year-old. My dad had to take me out of the theater after I freaked out after about five minutes of Godzilla. or year later or so I convinced him to take me to see for bidden planet and made it all the way through without freaking out lol.
I know what you mean. As a kid, I would watch with ease stuff that would have terrified most. Yet the most random, unexpected stuff would scare me. For example, the tree in the first Poltergeist film.
Robots are some of my favorite peoples! Thanks for the video! I thought one of the better-looking robots from the '50s in the one from "Mother Riley Meets the Vampire" (1952, UK).

Holy Shit! I saw The Colossus of New York once, on tv, over 50 years ago and never forgot the final scene of the little kid turning the robot off by slipping a hand under it's tunic. I've always hoped to find out the title of that movie that never left my memory!

Honorable mention of Gort in THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951), the two ambulatory automatons Gog and Magog in GOG (1954), and that one rampaging robot in TARGET EARTH (1954), and let’s not forget TOBOR THE GREAT (1954). It seems 1954 was the year of the robot.

Robbie the Robot is the ultimate 50's robot. I'm not surprised that he was number one. The Colossal Man is cool, Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy is hilarious, and Robot Monster is the ultimate cheap suit creature from the 50's. As a kaiju fan, of course I love Mogera. I wish it had been in the film more. Another favorite of mine were the robots from Target Earth.
I'm a big fan of Target Earth and the Target Earth robots as well. If I hadn't already done a standalone review for the film, they would have surely made the list. Heck, if I ever do a part III, they might even appear again.

In the early 90s, someone, I have no idea who, did a Lost In Space comic where Judy and Penny were all sexed up, half clothed, stepping out of the shower and teasing Don. Somehow, I don't think it was officially sanctioned by Irwin Allen. Personally, if the show had stuck to being realistic, there's no way Don and Judy would have lasted a year before having to get married. Marta Kristen was hot.

His review of the transfer follows: _Released only a year after the first DVD disc, Olive Films' Blu-ray of The Colossus of New York shows exactly what Blu-ray adds to a presentation. The excellent enhanced transfer of this B&W Paramount show is sharper and has more of a range between the darkest black and the brightest white. Even better, the mono sound mix sounds more dynamic; we hear more detail in the weird sound effects._

Ro-Man seems to be the primary inspiration for Minion from Dreamworks' _Megamind,_ except the "gorilla" part is the "robot" controlled by a fish-like alien fish-bowled in the "head."

If you like those 'boxy' robot designs, have you checked out the Servo Robot from 'Dr Who' ("The Wheel in Space" :1968) or the Quarks from the same show ("The Dominators" :1968)? Both are great designs and indeed, there have always been a few good robots throughout the history of the show.
I sure haven't. Other than the Peter Cushing films, I haven't dug into classic Dr. Who yet. I've been wanting to, but my watchlist is pretty huge presently. I'll go look those up, though. Thanks for the suggestion, Steve.

Forbidden Planet is a loose adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest. It was also a kind of blueprint for Star Trek.
I want to say I knew that. I'm not familiar with the original story, though. But being Shakespeare, I'm sure there were more robots than in the film.

@ AtomicSnackBar - Actually, it goes historically deeper than that. I'm not sure of the exact reason, but for a short time the Italians refused to export wine to the British. Since England didn't have the right soil to produce it's own, they were dependent on Italy's rich vineyards. That left the English with the only other choice, purchasing from the French. And you should be aware of what bitter enemies they have been historically. So, when Leo was hitting the Pubs during a PR visit to London, he ran into Will. Words (name calling) were exchanged and the rest as they say; "is history."

I have seen the others; Forbidden Planet, one of the few 50s sci-fi films with a nude scene & also staring Leslie Nielsen from my town of Regina, Saskatchewan & I owned the Aztec Mummy film! Vintage Mexican horror films would be a great topic, if you haven't done an episode already! We use to have arguments back in the day as to which horror films had worse dubbing -- Mexican or Japanese!

I remember back in the 80s. A video distributor was releasing the Aston funny movies with extras. White music videos and a version with current music in the background. One very odd moment that you don’t see in a lot of the dubs distributed. This one Dr. Crup approaches the entrance to the Sepultura mausoleum. There is a shop where the robot is standing at the top of a long staircase. For a split second is really sparked my interest. Noticing the robot has no knees. Then it cuts to the scene of the robot at the bottom of the stairs walking forward. I almost choked on what ever food eyes eating. Feeling amused and ripped off. I really wanted to see that robot navigate those stairs .
I would imagine a piece of cardboard and quick slide down the stairs.
How could you leave out Kronos, the walking skyscraper robot? When I first saw "Devil Girl..." I thought the robot's name was: "Johnny".
Actually there was a space robot called: "John" from a Russian (I think) sci fi movie, "Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet".

The Colossus of NY, aka Jeremy is giving me some Ben Grimm vibes, at least in the face. Although The Thing was more stocky but the Colossus is more like a tall Frankenstein type. 8 feet tall in fact....jeez. My fav is ROBBY of course so glad to see him on your list...also happy to say I have my bobbling ROBBY robot right here on my desk. Loved the trivia for all of these entries. Awesome work as always!

Tid bit: Ross Martin's real name was Martin Rosenberg. A friend's dad went to school with him.
I rescue Robby from a future scrap heap in my novel "World in Exile." I don't call him that, for copyright reasons, but the story picks up 50 years after "Forbidden Planet," with lots of callbacks to the original film. In the story, Robby gets a technical update, except for his iconic head... and his sardonic personality.
I don't think it's Jerry Mathers, but I have seen future stars pop up in several of these classic toy commercials. There's a good one with Kurt Russel in it.
And that sounds like a neat story. I always enjoy stuff like that. I make references like that in my writing as well. Too many Philip J. Farmer novels over the years, I guess.
I haven't seen many of these but did watch The Colossus of New York, it was a bit sad much like RoboCop in that he'll never be human again.😢Robot Monster on the other hand is a funny bad movie, talk about a film made with whatever they had lying around Eg. bubble machine.😄 I think I saw the famous Bronson Caves again recently in Outlaw Johnny Black, it sure has made a lot of appearances.
That's a good point. One could easily make an entire video just on the Bronson Caves and the different things filmed there. Robot Monster, It Conquered the World, and The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra immediately come to mind. I even want to save Fred Olen Ray's The Phantom Empire.

Interesting/odd thing about the Aztec Mummy series collection is that it's missing the first film "The Aztec Mummy" and has Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Mummy instead.

According to Charlie Gemorrah’s daughter, she and her father worked on the Martian in War Of The Worlds all day and night. They made one one Martian. They didn’t have the time to make another one. Charlie Gemorrah was in the Martian while filming the demolished farmhouse scene. The scene where the Martian “runs” after getting hit with a flashlight thrown by Eugene(or Gene)Barry, Charlie was pulled so hard he nearly crashed into the wall.
Robot Monster. I don’t remember how many times I saw this movie on television when I was a kid coming home from school. It and the movie The Flying Serpent were on at least twice a month where I once lived. The thing that caught my attention was the title sequence with the science fiction magazines. I loved that part. And the music was memorable, too. The music was composed by Elmer Bernstein.
The Colossus Of New York. As robots go, this one was scary. So scary, that my sister didn’t allow me to watch it because she believed it would scare my younger brother. Boy, when you have one television in the house, expect a battle with family.
Robby the Robot was in an episode of The Twilight Zone and Mork & Mindy, as Mork’s robot friend who learns a little something about humanity.
Movers from The Mysterians. In the DVD commentary two Japanese filmmakers talked about a remake of The Mysterians and using the Mogera, same design and scale size.
I’ll be waiting for the video of this series.
That's a great story. I want to say, and don't quote me on this, that Bob Burns also told that story in commentary for the Criterion release of War of the Worlds. Too bad I didn't think of that when I covered the Martian. Would have been a good tidbit.
The title screen of Robot Monster is one of my favorites. Really unique and perfectly sets the tone of the film. Speaking of Bernstein, the newest volume of the Golden Age of Science Fiction soundtrack series features quite a bit of music from both Robot Monster and Cat-Women of the Moon.
And man, the list of Robby's cameos is quite large. Another viewer was telling me about a rather memorable appearance on an episode of Wonder Woman.
The next part of the 50s Sci-fi Robots series is already up, but I do have a special, supplemental episode in the works as well that should be pretty darn spiffy, if I do say so myself.

It's easier these days to find out who so many of these uncredited roles were played by, yet there are still some that are a mystery. Chani. The alien from The Man from Planet X. The robot from The Monster and the Ape.
And good ol' Barrows. I was thinking about doing a Top Gorilla Men episode one of these days.

@@creech54 Oh, it's really quite interesting. I talked about it a bit in my Man from Planet X review. It's been linked to both Goldin and Billy Curtis. It's probably not Curtis, the height is off. The possibility of it being Goldin goes back to Robert Clarke. But other members of the cast have refuted that, saying he had no idea who it was. Many do still believe it was Goldin, though.
Jeremy, of course, is a proto-Cyberman, long before DOCTOR WHO introduced the cyborg race... and it goes about as well for him as it did for the Cybermen. Lemme go find the sequel and see if KRONOS made the list.
Kronos didn't quite make Part II, but I have a special supplemental episode coming soonish that will feature it.

I would really like to feature the Daleks in something. Like you said, they have it all. But the one time I tried using Dr. Who footage my video was immediately blocked. Been Dalek-shy ever since.

Great movie choices to feature. Maybe they weren't all robots in the sense we know today but the Czech word Robota means "forced labor" which was first used to describe humanoids in a play. Not such a bad set of choices after all.

I've been looking for years for a robot movie that features a scene at the end where a clanking robot comes down some stairs to face a desperate man with a gun and a woman, who I think is forced to be there. The man shoots at the robot, the robot disintegrates him, and as the woman is about to be killed a few scientists enter the room with a device that disables the robot. I remember the ending because it was all I saw of the movie on TV back in the 60's . I don't think it was in color but we only had black and white TV's at the time. Does someone remember the title? Please end my search.
P.S.- It wasn't "Target Earth."
Could it have been The Vanishing Shadow from 1934? The last part of the serial sounds a bit like that.

Yes, saw the Target Earth kit. It is a resin. Looks awesome. Also saw that there is a #D file out there for printing. My son is into 3D printing of Warhammer and other things. So I am going to talk to him about what he can do. I may start searching the Net for all kinds of Sci-Fi and Monsters that can be 3D printed. He has printed and painted some neat stuff.

That is awesome about the 3D printing. I would really dig seeing what you can find and what you can do with it. I was looking at 3D printed miniatures for use with HeroQuest recently. There is some really neat stuff out there.

I am amazed at what can be 3D printed. Saw a video where a guy was fixing an old Cassette machine. He 3D printed some gears that were broken and got the machine working. Truely amazing.

I met Robbie the Robot back in the ‘60s at Harry’s Ace Hardware on Magazine Street in New Orleans. I was around four or five years old at the time. He scared the hell out of me and everyone else, as the man in the robot suit was obviously drunk. Robbie was rude and crass, much to the audience’s surprise. He made a little girl blow up a balloon until it popped in her face, the entire time yelling at her to, “BLOW!!! BLOOOW!!!!! BLOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!” The children were terrified and the adults were mortified!

Oh man, it's a shame that happened, but that is a heck of a story. Not many can say they were there to see a drunken Robby the Robot cause a scene and horrify a bunch of people.

A trope Dr. Who borrowed for the 'Sontaran Experiment'! & I'd bet even $$$ that the Cyborg from 'Colossus of NY' was the inspiration for the Morlocks in the phoned-in 78 TV Version of 'The Time Machine'!

I don't know about the rest of the film, but the Morlocks were certainly creepy in the '78 version of "The Time Machine." And I can see their resemblance to Jeremy. But with fashion and style like that, it's hard to fault them.
@ AtomicSnackBar - True dat. The glowing eyes and emotionless faces of that version of the Morlocks were probably the best part of that version. Although just as inaccurate as that 2002-3 dreck. To their credit as well, they at least stayed underground at night.

The Collossus of New York seems to draw Frankenstein for inspiration. Or maybe that’s what I think of when I see a brain in a jar.
The Robot Vs The Aztec Mummy seems like a really neat concept as well. Even though there has been several VS movies to come out over the years it still seems like an under utilized idea.
I have to be honest I was expecting to see the Robot Monster making a appearance on this list considering I know how much you love that one. The same could be said for Robby The Robot. So I’m curious now did Moguera have a stand alone film? Because if so I wasn’t aware of that.
An excellent point. Because other than The Robot vs the Aztec Mummy, I can't think of another vs film featuring a mummy. Can you?
But no, Moguera never had a standalone film. He did, though, pop up later on in Godzilla vs Space Godzilla and several video games.
@@AtomicSnackBar There is actually a Frankenstein Vs Mummy movie from 2015 directed by none other than Damien Leone director of the Terrifier films. The movie was pretty decent and had great character designs. It had some issues mainly due to budget but overall I had fun with it.

hah so I was thinking of robot movies in black and white and there was an arabian nights bagdad movie where the evil wizard had made a female robot that would squeeze you to death. I couldn't find the name with any searches thou.
also if you do 60s robots maybe add in Kong Island (remote controlled apes)

You will know Robots have truly become Sapient when they can make a bad film and blame it entirely on the human crew and actors.
With the current state of film, I can't imagine robots doing much worse. I say we give them a shot.
