As an East Indian, it warms my heart that someone knows about our community…thanks Bharat. My dad says that once you could walk from Vile Parle across the fields (which is now Juhu Airport / Pawan Hans) right to the beach….
Sopara (by some[who?] identified with the Ophir mentioned in the Hebrew texts[a][citation needed]) was an ancient port town and the capital of the ancient Aparanta. The ancient port of Sopara was the most important port in western India after the celebrated port of Cambay. The site of this ancient town is located near the present-day Nala Sopara. In ancient times, it was the largest township on India's west coast, trading with Mesopotamia, Egypt, Cochin, Arabia and Eastern Africa.
Also, an unknown fact to many. St Bartholomew (Apostle of Jesus Christ) visited this region and there was said to have been a Nestorian Church. So, Christianity in it's nascent form predates Portuguese along the West coast of India.

Bhai Cyrus what a great podcast this is!!! Very much enjoyed watching it, your spontaneous jokes are great, and Mr. Bharat has so much knowledge am really impressed
Not even 10 minutes into the podcast, I'm already hooked. I've been watching you work Cyrus since my pre-teen years and you're one of the funniest and wittiest public personalities I believe. I'd love to see this podcast shape up to be the next Joe Rogan experience, albeit would be even better if all start to listen to what 'Cyrus Says'.
Please @cyrussays get him back for a another episode, I think there are so much stories left about our beloved city and we would love to know about it a Little more
Suggestion to Bharat Gothoskar: Khaki tours podcasts should be curated and given to government schools (first) so that history can become a live and exciting subject for students and teachers.
A simple example of how ancient our Mumbai is the Mahakali caves and Kanheri caves which are thousands of years old. When the place we call as island city (south Mumbai) never existed.
I watched the whole Loksatta 100 episodes series when I was down with Covid in the second wave. And read Sittaford Mystery by Agatha Christie. Two things I will never forther along with the one think I want to forget.
Mumbai had great influence of Goan due to intial Portuguese rule. Later old Mumbai has influence of Catholics and Konkan people and local Pathare Prabhu and Koli Community
I seriously wish Mumbai goes back to what it was 100 yrs ago. it is indeed scary the way it is growing vertically and knowing that its a group of islands, imagine the amount of weight this small land is dealing with right now compared to a 100 yrs ago.. the concrete and steel - the endless digging and construction have caused Mumbai temperatures go up so much. Summers are unbearable !! 40 - 45 degrees plus the humidity . the Govt should completely halt / ban all construction activity for next 50 yrs minimum for Mumbai to cool down. Progress should not be at the cost of destruction.
Agree with you.. in bandra, every street is now getting skyscrapers ,18 to 22 floors. The beauty is fast going..we are left with crowds, traffic and in some places you can't even cross the road. Tragedy for the city..
Hi Cyrus i am your big fan and I love to see your humour and fun shows on tv and mobile . One advice if you don't mind .. it's the best episode you did with mr Bharat but it observed that you intervened too much to Mr Bharat . You never allow him to talk in the length . It would have more intresting episode if me Bharat would have explained everything thing with very less intervention . I hope you will not mind my observation .
Bharat Saheb you forgot to mention the Pathare Prabhus, chaukalshi and the pachkalshies and other who were early settlers of Mumbai way before the Portuguese.
@@meonmaau7452 But there was lot of contribution from all the Maharashtrian communities who did help to make Mumbai what it is today?? and Cyrus would have got to know much more.
मी त्या मुंबई तील castle मध्ये भरपूर वेळा राहिलो आहे, curently its a naval base but not single alterations done by Navy. My biggest memory of castle was India beat Pak in Bangalore world cup match cause i watched on tv as ships didn't had live connection

There is misinformation regarding the pre-Portuguese era. To say only the Agris Kunbis Bhandaris existed in the Bassein region is more like generalizing. Though there has been mixing among people, facts tend to get missed. In Vasai-Nallasopara-Virar belt, there exist nearly three to four dialects belonging to different communities. Something unknown by most is St Bartholomew's (Apostle of Christ) arrival in this region. Christianity arrived here before the Portuguese. Also, all the people did not accept Christianity rather if everybody was forced to "convert" the demographics would be way different. There's more to it than the generalized history. Nonetheless, hidden gems are better the way they are, than being trivialized.
Some feedback Cyrus, Stop your stupid jokes. Don't break his flow and allow him or your guest to speak. I admire Bharat a lot and I have seen all of his episodes.
