  • Some footage I shot at the Littlehampton Miniature Railway using an Elmo 3000AF Super 8 Sound camera and Revue Moviechrome Super 8 Sound Film that was almost 20 years out of date!
The film was processed by Frank Bruinsma at The Super 8 Reversal Lab in Holland.
The film was HD Scanned by Uppsala Bildteknik in Sweden.

Thanks! I like the retro way it sounds! A perfect match for the retro way it looks!

I've primarily shot shot my super8 stuff without sync sound. I find ways to tell stories without dialog. Head AND tail slating certainly helps when I'm shooting dialog.

Super 8 home movies are the best way to shot on !

Hi Oliver! You will need to send your sound carts to Frank Bruinsma in Holland. He is the only one in Europe who can process them. No problem though I use him all the time and his service is excellent - he processed this film! I shot some sound film the other day with my Canon AF514XL-S and BM 50 mic - worked really well! I have a video on my youtube account with a sound film shot with that camera.

Hi Edward - I did not process this film myself, so I can't say - but I believe it was modified e6 chemicals.

How I wish I could still shoot my Canon 1014 XL-S with sound. It would be amazing.

Hi - it actually sounds much better when played on a proper super 8 sound projector. It would have sounded even better if I had shot 24fps!

I am not sure how the film was stored, I bought it on eBay from a seller in France who simply advised that the film had been "Cool Stored". Your roll of Ekta 160 will be the old process which will now only be B&W negative unless it has been frozen since new. I would doubt you would get any useable images from that film now, if it has been kept at room temp all this time - but you never know. The processing will be costly though, so probably best to use fresh film instead.

20 year old film ? I wouldn't have believed it could look this good. Was it kept in a freezer for the last 20 years or was this just old film found in a cupboard ? I recently got a Yashica LD6 ($9.95 !) on eBay which looks immaculate and sounds good when I run it. Everything seems to be functioning. It came with a "bonus" of an unopened roll of Ekta.160 (which I can guarantee has not been kept in a freezer !) dated 1981. 32 years old . Probably no good, but it makes me wonder if ...

I have some sound film loaded in my 1014xl-s right now, l need to shoot the rest of the roll of film and get it sent off for processing! You can find sound film on eBay.

Caspersdaddy! What developer did you use to devepope this super8 film

Well, that is what there is and l would rather take the chance and enjoy using what sound film there is than not at all. There are lots of places that can capture sound for you. If in doubt get yourself a cheap sound camera to shoot with like l did here, if you are worried about messing up your 1014xls. There are plenty of them about.

I have one also however I don’t have the power cord .. could I use another adapter and also how could I record with it since I can’t relay on Kodak to process the footage anymore, can I rig it to my computer?

This is so cool!! I have a Canon 514XL-S with BM 50 microphone. I shot some super 8 stuff about 5 years ago, silent though. Would love to get a sound cart and run through the camera. Does anyone know if a UK based company can process a sound cartridge?

Used, expired film, yes. But it will not be consistent in quality. It's risky to use and not to mention nobody around here can capture the sound on the stock. We need NEW super8 stock with sound. But that will not be.
