I’m always happy to hear Professor Hammond speaks! His voice is like music to my ears because he tells the truth and always set the US government straight whenever it spreads dangerous, outrageous lies about China! He is one of a small handful of Americans that is not afraid to speak out against his own country whenever it spreads dangerous propaganda and hate against China and other countries! Kudos to you Professor Hammond for being such an honorable man with such integrity! We need more people like you in our corrupt country of the USA!

So long as Taiwan remains free of the Party’s undesired authority I can’t disagree. Let’s work towards peace on Taiwan’s terms and not the Party’s! The world will be better off!

@@jaydee6268 Taiwan is historically part of 5,000 yo China. Despot Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek fled to Taiwan and established his autocratic rule on the native Taiwanese in the late 1940s. Let's work toward peace on patriarchal Chinese terms instead of US meddling, belligerence, warmongering, and arming Taiwan to the teeth in opposition to Nixon's One China agreement in the (?) 1970s! (P.s. What is wrong with "the Party"? Observe what it has done for its country in a short span after a couple of hundred years of Western Colonialism...sadly joined by Imperial Japan in the runup to WWII....)

First, certain dynasties only ever controlled part of Taiwan, never all of it.
Second, the PRC has NEVER controlled nor did anyone ever intend to give Taiwa. to the PRC.
The idea that the PRC can base “righteous”
violence or duress on a people due to ancient claims is rather untenable for anyone taking issue with Israel’s violence resulting from an alleged failure to reqlinquish Israel’s past claims.

@@jaydee6268 You have the right of freedom of expression, so go for it. (A couple of hours ago, I entered several thoughts, principally about the execrable Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek and his panicked flight to Taiwan in 1947 or so. Those thoughts have "magically" disappeared from this thread; thus I am no longer interested in continuation of this back-and-forth that I didn't initiate.)
Let's see if these two questions will be "disappeared": (i) Have you read the 1937 Edgar Snow's "Red Star Over China"? It was a game changer for me when I encountered it circa 1968. (2) WTH has caused reference to (Colonial Zionist Genocidal) 'Israel' to appear in this thread? ... Cheers; I'm outta here.

By China, do we mean the PRC?

Of course! (I tried to insert this reply a couple of hours ago and somehow it didn't "take"...)

Yes. The PRC is the internationally recognized government of China, according to the UN, US, and the overwhelming majority of nations in the world.

Good, I needed to make sure we weren’t talking about Taiwan.
