      I ask myself why it's so difficult to simplify things? Yes, this video helped me a lot on teorethical level. Now let's put it into practice. Thank's Tim.

    Mr.Wilmot, really enjoyed YOUR simplification of the near Venice street scene. Might it be a good idea to go thru street pictures and just see what I can take out and still have it feel like the picture? Love working en plein air but as it becomes physically more taxing I need to make decisions much faster than years ago. Have watched many if not all of your posts. Thank you for sharing your talent and inspiring us to get at it.

    • @TimWilmot
      @TimWilmot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Marjorie. Yes go through your old photos and look at a thumbnail of them or very small size to see if that helps in deciding on a simpler approach

    This one helped me out a lot Tim. For awhile now I've been having trouble with painting urban scenes because of all the detail I thought I had to capture, but after watching this Vid you definitely gave me a new approach, thank you sir........and once again, YOU ARE A F#*^ING MASTER!!!

    Lovely demo. Really enjoyed it. Usually I never watch a full video, I'm not patient enough, but this time I pinned myself down to watch it all. Love how you are instinctively loose while most of us cant get away from detail. My fav part of the painting is definitely the tea pink tones, especially on the bldg to the right; the colour just pops. Was that a mix of alizarin, ultramarine and burnt sienna?

    • @TimWilmot
      @TimWilmot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you and glad you liked it. I think the colours of the building was yes the mixture you said. Sometimes you don't think about what colours you are using and it just becomes a decision on the tonal value, so going dark in the shadows with those 3 colours. Thanks for watching

    I live near Venice, and I find a lot of colorful scenes have the shadow like this one. So I have learned to just have my painting do the opposite, sun from right side. One ends up having to make up things , but it is worth it. Plus it is really hard to be "there" when the light is good, so a lot of work starts but ends up at home to finish. Good video.

    I know this one is a few years old now but I just watched it and wow what a result. Looking at the reference photo there’s no way I would have attempted this in watercolour, your ability to simplify to the essentials and have it read so well is like a super power. Thanks for sharing this.

    Although I also use the same paper as you, I find I have to stretch mine otherwise it cockles too much with the use of washes. Your washes seem to be quite wet and yet it doesn’t seem to be a problem.
    Another great demo by the way. If ever there was an award for “services to watercolour tuition”, you would be a serious contender. Thanks for posting.

    Absolutely wonderful how you make the buildings colourful - I am so used to just giving them all one hue, the ones that are the farthest away. Beautiful simplistic technique, the only thing I wish for - that there was a bit more comment on which colours you mix each time, as it's heard to tell from just looking on the computer screen.

    • @TimWilmot
      @TimWilmot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Sofia for your feedback and I will try and do this for future videos. I do describe the palette normally at the beginning of the painting phase

    • @sofiasofia8726
      @sofiasofia8726 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lovely, thank you so much, Tim! You actually read comments, that's great :) I was also wondering what size paper you use for your watercolours - I often struggle with brushstrokes, and I realized first, probably I just need a bigger paper size, and second, I need to make more brush strokes sidewise - I really like how you hold and move a brush - very variated strokes, going over same spot with several ones. Burano makes indeed for a fantastic subject - it is just impossible to take a not pretty photo there :)

    • @TimWilmot
      @TimWilmot  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sofia. For these demos the paper size is 15" x 11". Rather than bigger paper, try using as big a brush you can get away with - I.e. ratio of brush size (with a good pint!) and paper. Small paper - big brush !
