I cracked this blu ray open after nearly 10 years. I still stand by my criticism, but I did enjoy some things. It’s not canon, and it’s definitely a product of Seth Grahame Smith, which is the root of my problems with it. Do I think Tim Burton was a good choice now? Sure, I can go along with it. Do I think SGS was the wrong guy to ever write and “fix” the screenplay? BIG YES! That said, my enjoyment of it this time outweighed my biggest nitpicks and I could enjoy it more than I ever had before. I’ll probably watch it more regularly. I’ll never love it but I do like it. After 12 years, I’ve squashed my mental boycott of the movie and I embrace and appreciate what I do like and ignore what I don’t. I do like what you said, Jule, about the honesty of Barnabas being his greatest strength and weakness. That’s a good point! I can enjoy this movie on the surface and separate it from the show now.
