So specific orders were issued for the first day of the invasion. Because everything was based on speed and accuracy. The soldiers were given orders not to take any prisoners until all the main objectives were taken. So many men trying to surrender were executed. But if you think about it what were they supposed to do they couldn't exactly just stop and babysitt prisoners in the middle of an assault
The Americans who died on the beach and rest of d-day that weren’t brought back to be buried were in the Normandy Cemetery. It’s absolutely beautiful, the other nations like Canada, Great Britain all have memorials that have men buried there. There’s a few monuments like at point du hoc, and other places like that. They’re so breath taking to see in pictures, and videos I could only imagine in real life.
The largest American military cemetery is actually located in the Philippines. (Where the Sullivan brothers who are mentioned when talking about the letter to Private Ryan’s moms memorials are located)
Some countries citizens like the French, the people from the Netherlands, Belgium all do an “adopt a grave” program where they take care of a grave of a fallen allied soldier who helped liberate their village/town/area. They learn about the man who died, they bring flowers, make sure they’re cleaned, and they maintain a relationship with the living family members. They take it very seriously, and the graveyard in the Netherlands actually has a waiting list for people to take care of our fallen guys, and some families pass the grave down from family member to family member.
Theodore Roosevelt the president has two sons buried in the Normandy cemetery.
1. Theodore Roosevelt Junior (his son) landed on d-day with a cane at the age of 56, later died of a heart attack.
2. Quinten Roosevelt (youngest son) was a pilot in world war 1, and was killed in action in France making him the only Presidents son ever killed in combat.
They moved him so he can be together with his brother.

Quentin Roosevelt II (the nephew of Quentin) participated in the first wave on Omaha beach with his father survived the war.
All in all the Roosevelt family served.
Few fun facts
Steven Spielberg made the cast that were part of the team sent to save Private Ryan do basic training boot camp, and Matt Damon didn't have to. This was to help the cast with their performances, but also so that they resented Matt Damon a little more because of it.
The letter the General read out when he made the decision to send a team to find Private Ryan, was an actual letter Abraham Lincoln wrote to a mother whose sons had died in combat.
Ive always interpreted the scene with Uppham and the German solider on the stairs as the German solider passing by and ignoring Uppham as he doesnt see him as a threat, not worthy of his time. Still an infuriating scene to this day though.
Love this film, brilliant reaction as always.
One last thing that you forgot to mention. Spielberg's message of the movie. We all need to earn what they have done for us.
The German soldier, on the stairwell, did nothing to Upham, because he could see that Upham was no threat to him.

@@FoAMDFun Actually it's not the same guy. They just look a bit alike. One immediate tip-off is the German on the stairs is wearing a Waffen SS uniform while the character that they spared earlier (known as "Steamboat Willy") that Upham eventually shoots is wearing a regular Wehrmacht Army uniform.
Pause on the close ups. "Stair man" has SS patches on his collar tips, while "Steamboat willy" has a far longer patch that looks to be a Roman numeral "II" on his.
Anyway, if you just focus on the men's faces you can clearly see they are different people. "Steamboat Willy" is a might bit gaunter looking, maybe part of his casting was decided on that because he looks like he's been out on the actual hardcore battlefield "rationing his rations" longer.

Because of the Sullivan brothers all being killed at the same time, not all siblings were put together in war. It's called Sullivan's Law. They were killed together on the Juneau in WWII. If only one sibling is left in a war situation, the last one goes home.
The cemetery is real, and it is located in France, on the cliffs above the beaches we assaulted on D-Day. There are many more all over Europe, with many thousands of our sons buried there. Many veterans returned late in life to face their demons. That is what this movie is about. It wasn't until Korea and Vietnam that we brought bodies back home.
My grandfather lasted about 3min into the beach scene then he walked out of the house. He came back like 1hr later and told us to never show him that again. Years later I asked him why it bothered him so much ( I was only 12 when I tried to watch the movie with him and didn't even know he was a veteran because he never spoke about it ) and he told me It brought back too many memories.. We had a long conversation about his service for the first time. He was a veteran of N. Africa, Italy and took part in the landings on D-Day. He was wounded outside Caen in France. He was a tank driver in the Canadian military.

One of my great-uncles was one of 359 Canadians who were killed on Juno Beach on D-Day.
This beach landing was so real it made veterans walk out of the theatre because they couldn't take seeing the beach landing.
I must admit that I'm not normally a particular fan of war films. However, I feel that this film did a good job of showing as close to reality as they could.
I often think of what both of my grandfathers went through as one was involved in the invasion of Italy and the other France on D-Day. I know that they saw some horrific things. We owe so many so much and especially those that paid the ultimate price in the name of freedom.
Sadly, it was known that they were going into chaos with potential massacres; the intent was that overpowering numbers would help accomplish their objectives. There are numerous films, documentaries, books and tv series that explain the detailed plans for this mission. “Band of Brothers” explains the mission of the Airborne who parachuted behind the beachfront to help supplement those who landed on the beach. Because the Germans occupied the western coast of Europe, and their Air Force and submarines were trying to control the English Channel and Atlantic, the frontal assault was necessary.
Most WW 2 soldiers who died in Europe were buried there, which is the cemetery shown at the start of the film.
The opening sequences were shot on the Atlantic coast of Ireland. The actual locations in Normandy are not used for filming.
My apologies if someone has already written this but the real story of saving private Ryan has a bit of a twist.
Ryan was pulled of the front line because his 3 brothers were killed in other theatres of the war but one of them wasn’t killed.
The one that they thought had died in the pacific was actually wounded, captured by the Japanese and taken to a POW camp. It was only after the war that they realised he wasn’t killed and was reunited with his family.
Such a classic and Tom Hanks never disappoints
The cemetery is located in France, above the beaches they assaulted. Imagine being back at that place again. There are many more in France, Belgium, Holland, and elsewhere. Many veterans returned to Europe to face their demons late in life.
i was a freshman when i saw this in 1998...the beach scene with all the silence i could hear old veterans crying..it made a huge impact on me and read so many books adter seeing this and i have a.d.d. so i hateeeds to read but after this movie i couldnt stop reading haha
The part with the morphine. You give one to kill the pain. When you give two it’s when you know there’s nothing you can do to save him. So when they gave him the shot they knew he was going to die.
One shot of the morphine will deaden the pain... a second shot is lethal. The men all know that, and the medic sure as heck knows that. So him asking for a second shot is asking them to put him down. They obliged because they all knew he was doomed. So him crying in fear is heartbreaking as he knows for sure that he's drifting off for the last time.
Those beach obstacles we're placed by the Germans to impale the landing craft (called Higgins Boats) that brought the troops ashore. The Germans expected the Allies to attack at high tide, which would've concealed the beach obstacles just below the water. However the Allies attacked at low tide which left the obstacles exposed.
Ohhhh interesting! Makes sense to attack at high tide because the boats would make it father into the shore, but I guess it's good that they didn't.
@@NewfieMovieReactions In the prior invasions of Sicily and Italy, the Allies almost always landed at high tide, and that is why the Germans expected this on D-Day.
Nope. This is one of the big errors of this film - the obstacles were backwards. They were meant to tip the boats over, not puncture them.
@@justme7185 I always thought that too, but I heard or read about it somewhere, and then I checked, and you can see it in the movie...a few of them are turned around the right way. You can even see at least one in this reaction...if you pause at exactly 3:01 you can clearly see one with the slope in the correct direction in between 2 empty boats...the camera pans a bit but it is on screen for at least a second.
A bit later, at 7:01 and 7:02 you can see s bunch of obstacles of that type, and there are a few of them in that shot that are very clearly not placed wrong.
It is even better proof that Saving Private Ryan is kind of a farce when it comes to historical accuracy.👍
The one movie that squeezes man-tears out of my eyes EVERY freaking time.
It wasn't about saving the morphine; it was all about euthanasia, and their conflict over doing that.
There was supposed to be an air strike that day to help us storm the beach a little easier, but the weather permitted it from happening...
The half-track motorcycle is called Sd.Kfz.2 and is apparently still available. Although I doubt that they're street legal in North America.
"Steamboat Willie" left Upham alone because he did more harm than good.
They're called 'kettenkrads,'' and the last running example I heard about in a private U.S. collection cost $250,000 - that was at least ten years ago.
the life expectancy for the first men to swarm the beach was something insane like 2 seconds
The first Ryan was played by Nathan Filian. He was in one of my favorite sci-fi shows: Firefly. It was about a group of smugglers who took on passengers for added cash. Each episode would feature different guest stars with different themese and different planets. It was a drama and light hearted comedy at the same time. It only lasted one season because Fox broadcasted it in the wrong order. When it was cancelled, the fans were in an uproar that they started a letter writing campaign and live protest. Eventually, a movie was made to bring a conclusion to the show. It was shown in theaters for even more money.

My grandpa was a heavy equipment operator, after they took an area they would go in and remove obstacles and build roads. After the war he came home and built basball fields
I was told by my grandparents that military had a mandate to do whatever possible to make sure no family, particularly those with only boys, would lose every member of the young generation.
The approximately twenty two minutes of battle in the opening scene took nearly three hours IRL.
What they did with the bodies is bury them in the cemetery featured at the beginning and end of the film, on the bluff above the beach. The Normandy American Cemetery, the government of France granted use of this land, in perpetuity, as a permanent burial ground without charge or taxation.
The first wave onto Omaha Beach suffered a 95% casualty rate. The Germans had their fire dialed in.

they started unloading the troops prematurely and alot of them drowned..they had all the equipment on them expecting to land alot closer.
If you read about the storming of Normandy, it would answer a lot of your initial q’s about the planning. This was a vey accurate reenactment of the “Omaha “ section of the invasion

Sounds about right to me. Soo much work went into this film.
Stairwell: Remember they both ran out of rounds, why they fought hand to hand. And if you ever fought for your life, wrestle, MMA your are super exhausted. So he did not have rounds to shoot Uppom, he was exhausted to have another hand to hand and saw Uppom was no threat. My opinion anyways.
At the start the old man had a 101st Airborne pin on his jacket, so early on in the movie I figured out it was Pvt Ryan. Ryan was completely out of ammo at the end, that is why he was holding his knees to his chest.
Hey Bud, love your video! I just wanted you to know in case you didn't already, but Canadians played a large role in Operation Overlord ("D-Day"), though on a beach to the east. This movie focused on Omaha Beach, which was one of the two American-only-invaded beaches on the day.
We have a memorial in my city for all the guys killed during WWII and in the invasion of France there were groups of cousins, brothers and family all killed in those first few days. I think one family had 3 brothers lost in total. Wild to think about that sacrifice
1. Many WWII vets left the theaters because the D-Day battle scenes were so realistic.
2. The German Captain Miller was talked into letting go is the same one that killed him. Upham finally put him down.
3. The story Ryan tells Miller about the last time he saw his brothers was made up by Matt Damon. He was told to say something interesting, so he did, and it was kept in the movie.
4. There was a USS Sullivans(DD- 68) dedicated to the brothers lost on one ship.
5. I did 24 years in the US Navy. My favorite character is Private Jackson/sniper and my second favorite is Sargent Horvath. RIP Tom Sizemore😇
6. Sizemore also played Boxman in "Flight of the Intruder", a movie I'm in briefly.
They weren’t thinking of saving the morphine for them. They were grappling with the idea of killing him with the extra morphine, which is what they did. They made sure he died without much pain but died a lot sooner than he would have if they just let him bleed out.
"The symbolism of the Flag." YES. It means a TON to those who hv fought for & served it. It shld mean a lot to us all. I still think it does for most people.
Sometimes there isn't some cute trick or clever maneuver or convenient flank. Sometimes you just have to pay the butchers bill and sacrifice lives to win. It's not nice and it's not some story written to make the heroes look smart, it's war.
"Hell, these guys deserve to go home as much as I do. They've fought just as hard."
"Is that what I'm supposed to tell your mother when she gets another folded American flag?"
"You can tell her that when you found me, I was with the only brothers I had left. And that there was no way I was deserting them. I think she'd understand that."
If you like this movie, might I suggest The Fighting Sullivans (1944) as well. You should react to Sullivan (1997) by Caroline's Spine in the same video, after the movie (the song will have more meaning after the movie). This is, of course, just a recommendation.
Fun Fact: Selected as the opening film at the 55th Venice Film Festival in 1998.
Casting Notes Fact: Steven Spielberg cast Matt Damon as Private Ryan because he wanted an unknown actor with an All-American look. He did not know Damon would win an Oscar for Good Will Hunting (1997) and become an overnight star before the film was released.
Irish Invasion Fact: The Omaha Beach scene cost $11 million to shoot, and involved up to 1,000 extras, some of whom were members of the Irish Army Reserve. Of those extras, 20-30 of them were amputees, issued with prosthetic limbs, to play soldiers who had their limbs blown off.
Historical Fact: Upham's (Jeremy Davies) shoulder patch, a blue and grey "yin yang" symbol, identifies him as a member of the 29th U.S. Infantry Division. It symbolizes the fact that the division was composed of units from Virginia and Maryland, who fought on both sides of the American Civil War.
Sonic Warfare Fact: Cinemas were instructed to turn up the volume when they showed the film, as the sound effects play such a crucial part in its overall effect. I remember this, because the theatre I was in had surround sound and that tank approaching came from EVERY speaker BEHIND me. I was having a small mental panic attack (I was 17 at the time and I just signed up to join the US Army, so cut me a little slack) leading to the final battle.
Classic and well made. This and Band of Brothers are vault sealed per say.

Wow.... the statement: "The symbolism of the flag must mean something to someone who has fought for it." literally game me chills.... and I hate seeing our flag.... but that statement really does give me some pride knowing that there are some people out there who have fought for my country and so this flag means so much to them... (I don't hate my flag or country, I just don't understand boarders and how someone can tell another human being where to live is all... obviously the subject is much deeper than this, but I hate what our flag has began to represent...)
I really hope u react to the "Band of Brothers" series after this it's truly amazing...u won't be disappointed sir
“Plans are worthless, but planning is everything” . . . Dwight David Eisenhower. He meant, every men, officer, nco, enlisted, must know the map and their objectives. Have trained in similar terrain and conditions. Have resources and reserves stocked and ready. But specific tactical plans go to hell with the first shot.
Junior Officers, NCOs, and enlisted men, in groups of five, eight, and twenty, won this battle by taking initiative and fighting to stay alive.
As to, why here, against such defenses? The entire coast of Europe looked like this . . . some worse.
This attack was made against five adjacent beaches, covering 50 miles.
They knew about the beaches and even thought there was a good chance of failure. They did have plans with individual units trained to land on specific sectors of the beach. Very few units actually did land even close to where they were supposed to though, due mainly to currents and all the smoke from bombing and naval bombardment.
The tanks they were talking about were the dual-drive tanks. These were Sherman tanks with flotation skirts and propellers added. Problem was that they could barely function on calm lakes and rivers. Almost all of them sank shortly after being launched into the rough channel waters on D-Day. Most of the few tanks that made it to the beach were directly dropped off by the boats.
It could have been worse. The beach defenses were not finished yet. The Germans thought the landing would come further up the coast and built strong defenses there. Had they been completed, D-Day might have been a failure. Also, the landing scene was based on the worst beach of the landings. Some others also had it rough, but most were easier by comparison.
Highly recommend Band Of Brothers
You need to watch Schindler’s List.
The opening beach details are incredible. There's some incredibly minor details, for example the big sloping poles next to the x iron defenses are pointing the wrong way. They actually point up the beach so an approaching landing craft would ride up the slope and then trigger an explosive charge. But when that's just about all you can find you know everything else is really authentic.
And they actually discovered the error at the last minute and tried to turn them around, but they only had time to correct a few of them before filming had to begin, so just a few are pointed the right way. 😉
I love how they troll us into thinking Ryan is Miller with the eye fade in the beginning...What can be said about this masterpiece that hasn't been said over and over again? I will just allow it to speak for itself. The genius of Tom Hanks and Spielberg doesn't end at the beaches of Normandy, it goes all the way to the Eagles Nest eventually. You are now legally and morally obligated to see the Band of Brothers series. Currahee! ♠🦅
As an afterthought, the knife fight scene is the most difficult of the entire movie for me. When Mellish attempts to reason with the German human to human. It just highlights the pointlessness of War to begin with. A common mistake is thinking that German is the same that Upham encouraged to be released and then subsequently kills. I thought it was for years.
not sure if anyone mentioned it but the reason they were looking for pvt. Ryan was the US military instituted a rule to send the last member of a family home to continue their lineage after a group of brothers were all killed in battle effectively ending their family line
The Sole Survivor policy was not official policy until after the war, although the military did start to separate family members after the Sullivans died. In real life, the Army did not send anyone looking for the 4th Niland brother when the other 3 were reported KIA, he only found out when he went looking for the brother that served with the 82nd Airborne. Spielberg used the Nilands as the basis of his fictionalized version where a mission to find the 4th brother had been sent.

I've read somewhere ( i looked it up but i couldn't find, so i don't know if it's actually a true story ) that some medics when they were inspecting the bodies of some dead american soldiers they would find out that because the MG42 was shooting so fast, sometimes 2 bullets would hit the soldier in the exact same place of his body..
damn this movie is something else

Standard comment I post on most reactions to SPR that I come across...hope you don't mind a bit of copy/pasting.
Saving Private Ryan is incredibly realistic in most every way, with a very few exceptions...such as bullets not being able to kill you more than a few inches underwater. One thing to know, pay no mind at all to that man who took off his helmet on the beach at 5:28 and then got shot in the head...that next shot would have killed him even if he had kept his helmet on. The helmets of WW2 would almost never stop a bullet, except under very very rare circumstances.
The movie is not a true story, and it differs from the actual history of D-Day in many ways...but the basic plot is loosely based on the 4 Niland Brothers, one of whom served with the 101st Airborne Division. However, when 3 Nilands were reported dead, no mission was sent to get the last brother, and it turned out that one brother that had been thought dead had actually only been captured.
There really was a Company C of the 2nd Rangers that landed on Omaha Beach, but they were commanded by Captain Ralph Goranson, and they did not land quite where it was shown in the film. Probably the most important historical thing that Spielberg got wrong is that he had the boats that carried the Rangers to the beach being driven by Americans...they were not. On D-Day, the boats that carried the US Rangers to the beach were driven by UK sailors of the Royal Navy. There are many other things in the film that are not accurate to the real history of D-Day, but that one really fails to honor some of the men that fought and died at Omaha Beach, so it is definitely the one most worth noting.
the german that killed the guy upstairs,was the one they released from the radarstation,so he knew Uphem and vise versa.
I don't think so, they don't look the same. Also that's why they show the shock of recognition when Upham was in the trench and seen that specific German in the gun line, then he gets up out of the trench and holds them all at gun point. And that German was shocked and said.. "Hey Upham!" and then Upham shoots him. The German that walked down the stairs and past Upham was a different man.

the thing this does not show you for the pre for D Day was the several weeks of sheeling the beach and countryside by battleships and navy plains and bombers to wipe out as much of the defensive emplacements and armored units as possible. Meaning the invasion of d day would have been far harder to complete then it was. Same on the pacific inlands the Japanese where fortified in.
The story Matt Damon told about his brother and the girl was not in the script it was all improved.

Fun tiny fact...Damon created a tiny continuity error with his improvisation...he talked about the last night they saw each other being before the first of them went off to Basic Training. But when the telegrams are delivered to Mrs Ryan, there is a picture of all 4 brothers being together in uniform...but that could not be if the last time they were together was before they were in the military. LOL
Medical advise is pointless except for the people they did save even by providing small attention to... But I totally get the logic...

That nervous wreck of a man really pisses me off later on in the movie no matter how many times I've seen this movie which is like 28 times lol I will never not be upset at that guy granted I know people go through stuff during war people freeze up but still I cannot forgive him no matter how many times I tried to put my feet in his shoes
The thing is we can't place ourselves in his shoes. Paralyzed with fear is a real thing. I can only hope I'd do better.

Your comment about fighting in trenches where 10 feet from you is another trench with the enemy in it still happens to this day. I've watched quite a bit of war footage from Ukraine (not on TH-cam) and they have this sometimes. In one clip I saw, a Russian guy was taking fire and he jumped into a trench with his mates, unfortunately he jumped into the Ukrainian trench in his haste. He looked surprised!
*edit* That guy that Upham let walk past him on the stairs towards the end, may have done nothing to Upham if he was the same guy they let go (who tried to sing the American national anthem). Maybe he was repaying the favor? Or he thought Upham was weak and was no threat to them?
No it was not the same guy they let go on the stairs. Itwas a different guy. Now it was the guy that they let go that at the end that shoots Cpt. Miller on the bridge. He shoots the guy that let him go and then tries to suck up to Upham again? That's when Upham had had enough and shot him.
@@ronweber1402 Ah thanks. Yeah I recognized him just before he got shot, but I just assumed it was him coming down the stairs. Trying to find a reason why he didn't kill Upham in that moment

Um...there were no Paratroopers that were dropped behind Omaha Beach...all the US airborne stuff was behind Utah Beach. Which guns are you speaking of? There were definite failures and mistakes that made things on Omaha Beach very bad, but I am not aware of any Paratroopers going for guns that failed to happen being a part of that.

1:52 were there no way better way to approach? Answer is no. There were builded Hitler's Atlantic Wall over the europe coast . it was defending heavy artilery and machine guns on every beach. General Walter Model was in other name hitler's fireman was one of the best defensive tactian commanding the Germany Army in Europe.Luckily Nazi Germany was fighting against Soviet Russia in same time . Otherwise allies couldn't have landed the shore.

@@NewfieMovieReactions Omaha Beach was expected to be the toughest...it is the biggest beach, and it is curved along its entire length...which meant that every German gun on that beach could hit just about every spot on the entire beach. It is why the Allies targeted more than 2 divisions of troops to hit Omaha, but the Allies also made some very bad choices about how they hit some of the beaches. The plan included the US 8th Air Force to be a big part of the pre-landing aerial bombardment of the targets on and behind Omaha Beach and others, but the 8th Air Force consisted of B-17 and B-24 heavy bombers meant for hitting factories, and the planes were not well suited to hitting bunkers and pinpoint targets. Add to that the fact that the crews had no experience at that sort of tactical preparatory bombing...so the entire effort of a huge portion of the US bombing the morning of June 6th was completely ineffective. Oh, and there is also a story about the 8th's targeting being shifted at the last minute, which basically guaranteed that the bombs would kill pretty much only French civilians that morning...a very sad affair.
None of these men really signed up for this to be honest...

I'm curious why you say that. From my point of view seeing him afraid to join the squad, then the first sign of gunfire he was hugging Sgt. because he was afraid. He didn't take part in any of the gun battles, so they gave him the job of carrying ammo around, and he was too busy hiding away and afraid to bring it where it needed to go, then on the steps at the end, he didn't have the courage to bring the ammo up to those who needed it. He just stood there shaking as the German walked past him on the stairs, etc. So what am I missing?

It's very easy to pontificate from an arm chair. An individuals reaction to fear varies dramatically from person to person. Would it have been more satisfying if he stormed up the stairs like Rambo? Not really. The film attempted to represent the war and the men in a realistic light. I believe they succeeded warts and all. He represents all the boys unsuited for war and the consequences of paralyzing fear.
I'm not saying it's okay... but seeing your brother/brothers die changes you.... I would want to say I would do the responsible thing and not commit a war crime.... But deep down I know I would...
Love you reactor to this, but it is painstaking to watch someone with so little historical knowledge watch this film. You could have understood 95% of everything going by watching a 15 minute summarizing the situation. As a matter of fact, it’s astonishing this is your first exposure to this conflict in your entire life.
Yeah I didn't know much about this historic event, however, I would say most enjoyed the fact that I didn't know much about it, as I didn't know how it would turn out. It was more exciting for me at least not knowing about it and experience it all for the first time instead of knowing how it all went down before watching this film. I guess you were looking for someone to make historical comparisons of the film to real life. :)
The German soldier who walked by Upham was the one they let go after losing their medic.
I don't think so, that's why they show the shock of recognition when Upham was in the trench and seen that specific German in the gun line, then he gets up out of the trench and holds them all at gun point. And that German was like.. "Hey Upham!" and then he shoots him. The German that walked down the stairs and past Upham was a different man.
@@NewfieMovieReactions You are correct...the German that killed Melish and then walked past Upham had SS tabs on his collar...but the German they let go and that killed Captain Miller and that Upham then shot was not SS. If you look in the IMDB credits they are two different actors...one credited as Steamboat Willie and the other as SS soldier.

I'm Canadian, and no, I wasn't taught very much history in my life.
Nobody is born knowing anything, and when we're young, we generally depend on whatever information our teachers give us. Generation X were the last generation who probably had living relatives who had served in the war, which is why many Gen-Xers like me became interested in learning more about the war.
So give Newfie a break. Maybe this movie will inspire him to learn more, and there are worse places to start than Oversimplified Channel's WW2 vids. Oversimplified creates clever, understandable and amusing historical vids covering the major events and circumstances of many subjects.
This is the price for freedom !!! Every single American should be made to know, in detail, the history of our nation !! The Revolutionary War, The Civil War, WWI, ( especially ) WWII, Vietnam War, and finally the 911 attacks !!! Only knowing about all of this can we fully appreciate the cost that was paid for the privilege to live in relative freedom !!!
