According to Leonard Maltin's book:"The Great Movie Comedians"..Semon's problem..was that he did everything big in his films..but? there was no real motivation for the characters and the sight gags that drove those scenes in those films..hence..his career as a film comedy performer and craftsman was doomed to failure.
Larry Semon was a good, inventive comedian and movie maker, but he had no charm, no charisma. He greatly inspired other movie comedians, but soon disappeared in the shadows of Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd.
Prime Minister Kruel was always such an intriguing character to me it’s a shame he isn’t featured more prominently in oz media.
