@@ninethetwotailedfox Oh it was an amazing time to fly. In flight service was incredible! They would serve multiple meals even during short domestic flights, everyone got amenity kits regardless of class and before 9/11 we could say bye to loved ones right by their gates.
People nowadays really have no idea how very Powerful the takeoffs were in those Beautiful Airplanes. Im also sure they never knew that McDonnell Douglas was very close to making a MD-12 which would have been the first true Double Decker Airline, able to hold over 500 passengers. Came very close too. I am 45 years old and remember flying to Florida and other states many times as a child and teen. Alot of my flight memories from that time were DC-10s however one time something Mechanical happened with our plane and Delta switched us to a Boeing 747-400 It was such a different time back then. The whole upper deck which was usually First Class was a Lounge with tables in it. I also remember the pilots always bringing all the children who wanted to into the cockpit during all my early flights. Thank u for this video !! I havent thought of that memory until i saw the United 747 on the tarmac.
Yes, Corey is 37 now i believe. He has a wife and 2 teenage kids LoL. They live in California and we see each other every couple years. His father pushing him around is Grant. We lost him in 1997 😞 He was my best friend, best man and my daughters Godfather. Good people 👊🍻
Reminds me of traveling with my parents in the 80s/90s! We had to raw dog it with Game Boy (if you were lucky) especially if the movie sucked - no other options, lol.
I'm gen Z. Its very cool to see how people used to fly 30+ years ago. Also found it funny there used to be a reminder back then to not smoke anymore in the plane. Thanks for posting!
Actually if i remember correctly, aircraft was probably one of the first one's to restrict smoking. I don't think they had smoke detectors at that time so it was basically on the honor system. That's when people started smoking in the lavatories 🚬 🚫
The air in the planes actually used to be fresher because it was completely recirculated ever 3 minutes now it's every 7 min. If u sat behind the smokers in smoking it was AWFUL. Many more people smoked back then especially on the east coast. In the 70s 50% of the population smoked. The planes were bigger for the routes, way more leg room and people were friendlier and talked more. Socializing has sadly been lost in our society. It's sick and needs fixing. I miss flying before 9/11.
I remember the days of only having one big screen for in-flight entertainment. You had to get the headphones to plug into your seat to listen to it, or! Your seat had a little radio as well with like 3 channels and you could listen to music. Oh and your meals were free even in coach class! Well not free it was automatically included in your tickets
Back in those days I remember those giant camcorders the size of a small brief case. Crazy how you now get Ultra HD with something smaller than your palm. I lived in LA back at this time and it's strange to think that I might have been a teenager somewhere down there walking around when you were flying over filming this. The air got much cleaner over the years with better regulations and cleaner burning fuel.
@@NewYorkCityAviation I listened closely the first one was a movie trailer for a Dabney Coleman film that made $1100 at the box office not very good, and the return flight ad was for AAdvantage frequent flier stuff lol.
I remember my first flight as a unaccompanied minor to San Juan out Of Philadelphia international Airport. AA 1425 7:53 am departure. Gate A6 on the DC-10. Wow those days where so amazing! I'll never forget!!
In 1962 when i slid out into this world, Boeing rolled out the first Boeing 727 at its Renton, Washington, plant. On November 30 Eastern Air Lines Flight 512, a Douglas DC-7B, crashes while trying to land in heavy fog at Idlewild Airport (now JFK) in New York City. Wow ✊
I had a little less than a year under my belt, born July 22, 1989. I might be about the similar age as that blonde boy in the pushchair. My Dad was *1962 too. It's crazy to think about it and put such videos into timely context. It's actually not that long ago...just an eternity. 😅
Yes Corey (the kid) is now in his mid 30's, the Gent pushing him around is Grant. My best friend, my best man and my daughters Godfather. He sadly left this world in 97' Corey, his mom and i have kept in touch ever since. Good people 👊🙏
@@NewYorkCityAviation Oh, sorry to hear that, seems like from the video they are good people and you were best buddies. I hope Corey found his way and your daughter too. Same on my side. My father passed in 2004 and he was that same kind of aviation geek as you and me. We would sit in front of MS FS for hours co-piloting, or he would take me to Frankfurt Airport every year between 2000 and 2003 to spend an entire day on both terraces. Or visit our own local airport's annual fest in the 90s when it still took place. So many fond memories. Have a safe time y'all and Merry Christmas!💫🎄🎇
It feels like going back in a time machine. The airfoil, ailerons, flaps, etc. have hardly changed and the same cabin prep procedures -- but the camera technology has marvelously improved. Even the way people talk has changed, and listening to the commercials while taxiing is downright laughable!
If you flew to & from SJU (PR) & JFK (NY) in the 80's and 90's on AA, you almost certainly flew on a DC10. I made countless trips and never once felt any turbulence on that trijet, even in stormy rainy conditions. The DC10 ate turbulence for fuel! I cannot say the same however for its successor, the A300 - 600 & 767.
I am such a dork, now I am finding myself wondering if the voiceover for the safety briefing video was the same guy who did the voicover work for the American Airlines 757 safety video that is floating around TH-cam (and the American Airlines 767, A300, and MD-11 safety videos that used to be on TH-cam as well). 😂 Maybe it's the audio quality here, but sometimes it sounds like the same guy, sometimes it sounds like a different person.
Man, this is giving me feelings of nostalgia for my first time going on a trip with just my older brother in 1999 - on American, JFK-LAX on a DC-10-10. My flight home was on a 767-323ER tho - N370AA. Why TF do I remember that? 😅🤣
@@NewYorkCityAviation I am **still** kicking myself 23 years later, because I didn't keep mind of the brand of the triple chocolate brownies they served for dessert on the flight TO LA, or the brand of the chocolate chip brownies that we got on the return flight... they were SO GOOD! 😩
@@NewYorkCityAviation Since my bro and I were flying alone, the FAs were really attentive - they even brought us a basket full of cookies at one point (with a variety including my favorites, Keebler Fudge Shoppe cookies! Why do I remember that?!?!?!
Yes they are. It's crazy, i used to ride my bike over the 59th street bridge from Queens. Then go all the way downtown to Wtc just to hang out. Take the elevator up to the top floor and just sit in front of a window and view our city. Everyone looks like ants from up there. But as many times that i was down there , i never took a photo. I wondered how people watched movies before the screens on seats. Even as primative as the 70s- 80s were, people still find ways to be more innovative and modern, unlike the 19th century, where the 1890s looked no different from the 1860s, and the 1840s looked no different from 1700s
Flew DC10 Newark to San Francisco on United, Newark to Houston on Continental. Actually flew more L1011 flights on TWA JFK to Paris, American Trans Air JFK to Acapulco and back, and Eastern Atlanta to Daytona Beach, Miami to LaGuardia. Loved both planes.
Yeah i know, sorry bout that. I did record the landings and alot more taxi spotting. But i transferred this footage from Vhs tape to digital. And some of the tape must have deteriorated over time. Well, the word vintage literally means "of age." With such an open meaning, there are many interpretations. Most antique dealers consider an item to be vintage if it is at least 40 years old. So, a vintage item would be made between 1918 and 1978... I stand corrected 😞
Oh yeah, back in the 60s, 70s and 80s you were weird if you didn't smoke. You could smoke in hospitals even. Anchors on the news were smoking while reporting lol.
An idea and humble suggestion, the whole population of the world, if not then Whole population of all of Europe shall be comfortably housed in All of USA and Canada, if need be Mexico can also all house the whole population. feasible only, instead of starving in extreme weather conditions of Northern Europe etc. What do you think of this suggestion?
Well, here in the states, there is something called Tornado alley in the south. I always wondered why we allow ourselves to inhabit those areas. It's an extremely hazardous area of the country. And theres plenty of room out there without the need to live in such places. Same premise i guess. And with the resources that earth provides, no one should be homeless nor hungry. Thats what i think and I'm sticking to it 😉👊

The crashes were the result of mis use of the bag cargo doors and a design lacking proper closure after that was fixed it became a excellent airliner but help doom MD to never be able to compete with Boeing they are still use use by fed ex and ups but not for much longer

Very cool 😎 back in 84-85 i had girlfriend who lived in Brooklyn. And we used to hang out in a small hole in the wall on Jamaica Ave and Liberty ave under the elevated subway. I can still here the music oh' soo loud. And that was where we we're when we heard Rockbox for the first time. Friggin awesome 🎸🍻👊
The days of flying big wide body jets across the country. Today, you are jammed into a 737 or A320 on those cross country flights.
Not true at all, there are several daily transcon routes using wide body aircraft. There is a lot of narrow body transcon flights though, true.
WOW, you predicted future, knew to document for TH-cam some day.
LoL, back then i could never imagine a TH-cam. I'm sure it was a fleeting thought as in the 70s and 80s i grew up watching MTV. When it was 24/7 music videos 😉👊
Amazing footage!
Thank you, much appreciated 👊🙏
Amazing! I love vintage footage!
Glad you enjoyed my friend 👊🙏
I remembered flying on American Airlines DC10 when I was a kid. It had the words Luxury Liner written at the front below the cockpit. Such a shiny and beautiful aircraft it did feel like luxury even though I was in coach lol.
Agreed 😎🍻
Hilarious... you could only watch one movie and you had to pay for the headset. :) Thanks for sharing this. I flew on L-1011's mostly during this time on Delta from coast to coast. :)
Yes, having a screen on the back of every seat was like futuristic. Maybe a fleeting thought 🤔 but to actually happen, no way 😆
Memories of one favorite planes DC-10. My dad was one of test pilots of DC-10. Thanks sharing film.
Wow that's awesome. I bet he's got some cool stories to tell. Glad you enjoyed 👊🙏
@@NewYorkCityAviation thanks again for memories. He passed in 1980 56. Had stories, he occasionally help deliver DC-10’s to airline companies: he returned once LAX DC-10 American, I met Walt Chamberlain.
@@KidYuma1880 Ahh i know what you went through, lost my dad young as well 😞 61
@@NewYorkCityAviation sad both young, I grew up in aviation because of him. I became pilot unfortunately later on lost ppl reason health. Now have flight sim fly liners mostly classic & new.
I know what you mean, I'm 62 in Feb. and I'm currently fighting bladder cancer and other serious health issues. I feel optimistic for the future though, just taking a day at a time. Life flies by so fast, you have to live slow and for the moment 👊🙏
I was only 1 but I sure do remember flying in the early 2000s and 2010s it was great a few weeks after 9/11 we flew from Charlotte to Atlanta it was the best flight of my life we where about the only ones on the plane because of people being scared about 9/11, I can definitely say those days where the glory days of commercial aviation.
Oh the golden age of flying! Really miss it!
I do too 😞 Life just goes by oh' too fast. All you youngsters out there, live slow and for the moment, and have a blast 🍻❄️

I wish I was born in the 90s era because it looks awesome.
@@ninethetwotailedfox Oh it was an amazing time to fly. In flight service was incredible! They would serve multiple meals even during short domestic flights, everyone got amenity kits regardless of class and before 9/11 we could say bye to loved ones right by their gates.
@@MatchaCocoaDog That sounds amazing! Thank you for sharing that with me :)
Fantastic memories 👌 didn't know about the MD-12 Wow ..Have a great New Years 👊🙏
I flew alot on united dc 10s and northwest. That thing threw u back in your seat on takeoff. So did the L1011
If he's still with us, the little kid in this video is probably now approaching 40 years old!
Yes, Corey is 37 now i believe. He has a wife and 2 teenage kids LoL. They live in California and we see each other every couple years. His father pushing him around is Grant. We lost him in 1997 😞 He was my best friend, best man and my daughters Godfather. Good people 👊🍻
@@NewYorkCityAviation Thanks for sharing that heartfelt update. Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays!
Reminds me of traveling with my parents in the 80s/90s! We had to raw dog it with Game Boy (if you were lucky) especially if the movie sucked - no other options, lol.
You and yours as well 👊🍻🥂
Yeah and a color Gameboy was unimaginable 👊
missed opportunity to capture the Canarsie approach on arrival. My first DC-10 ride was ORD-LAX 1993
Oh yes, the 13L approach is the best 👊😎
Fantastic vintage footage.
Thank you my friend, glad you enjoyed ✌️ ... Those were the days aye 😎
Wow, nostalgia, man. Very little traffic compared to today's, huh?
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!!!
Thank you so much my friend, god bless 👊🙏
Almost 4 years before I was born. Bush 41 was still President. Desert Storm hadn't happened yet. Nirvana wasn't even famous yet. Amazing.
Truly amazing how time fly's. Something for you 😉

Die Hard 2 (featuring airports and planes in the snow) was just released in movie theaters the day before.
Very cool, luv the snow, great movie 👊🗽
The great DC-10. Love the footage.
Salute 🍻😎
Home Alone comes to mind with that AA livery.
Yup, either way they're gonna get paid..Have a great New Years 👊🙏
such a GREAT video!! Legendary……
Thank you my friend, glad you enjoyed 👊🙏
I remembered flying on the DC 10 from Dallas to La guardia. ❤❤
I wasn't even ready to be born yet
Wow this brought back memories. Pretty sure a DC-10 was the plane for one of my first ever flights in 2002, Newark to Vegas
Awesome, great memories 👊🙏
Back in those days I remember those giant camcorders the size of a small brief case. Crazy how you now get Ultra HD with something smaller than your palm. I lived in LA back at this time and it's strange to think that I might have been a teenager somewhere down there walking around when you were flying over filming this. The air got much cleaner over the years with better regulations and cleaner burning fuel.
LoL you never know, you might have looked up and watched me fly by 😎 ... Have a great New Years 👊🙏
WTH is the screeching television audio at two minutes? And at the end. Gracious! Do you remember what the RT airfare was?
LoL it is pretty loud, do you know what commercial it was ? No I don't remember what i paid for a round trip back then 👊🗽
@@NewYorkCityAviation I listened closely the first one was a movie trailer for a Dabney Coleman film that made $1100 at the box office not very good, and the return flight ad was for AAdvantage frequent flier stuff lol.
Good ears LoL $1100 ? Omg that's crazy. Everyone involved probably got a buck a piece 😆
The clapping on arrival. I miss that.
I miss these days on mu former airline's DC-10s.
Sorry!!! On the "former" airlines. I do miss the airlines America here and United flying them!!
Great rare interior footage of American’s DC-10!!!
Thank you my friend 👊🙏
Vintage??? Thanks for making me feel old. Seems like yesterday.
I hear that my friend 👊✌️
Fun fact: I am the 747th person to like this, making the number of likes into MY FAVORITE AIRCRAFT!
Fantastic 👊
Wow I was only about 4 months old how 33 years fly by so fast.
Incredibly fast, the next leg to 60 goes even faster. Live for the minute, and have a blast 👊🙏
My first flight that I took was on an AA DC-10 from JFK to SJU when I was 7.
I remember my first flight as a unaccompanied minor to San Juan out Of Philadelphia international Airport. AA 1425 7:53 am departure. Gate A6 on the DC-10. Wow those days where so amazing! I'll never forget!!
Wow do you still have the ticket ? Or do you actually remember the flight, time and gate ? Good times my friend 🍻👊
I remember it was a 7:00 AM flight out of JFK. Flight AA677
Not me watching this and realizing I was Corey's age during the time this was filmed.
It's crazy that at one point these DC-10's and L-1011s, even A300s were taking off and landing at LaGuardia.
Yeah that's wild. 767s too 😎👊🙏
I remember on a summer day out if la Guardia our plane barely cleared the threshold of the runway. We almost crashed
Awesome
Thank you 👌 Have a great New Year 👊🙏
I was born the day after your outbound leg on July 6th, 1990. Interesting to see what air travel was like when I was born. Also, it's a DC-10.
The start of my filming 0bsession, the start of your life... Priceless 👌 🤜🤛🗽
Oh' yes, but the landings certainly remind you that your surrounded by solid steel 😉
Joanna Cassidy was still making movies 🎥 in 1990?
I am such a dork, now I am finding myself wondering if the voiceover for the safety briefing video was the same guy who did the voicover work for the American Airlines 757 safety video that is floating around TH-cam (and the American Airlines 767, A300, and MD-11 safety videos that used to be on TH-cam as well). 😂
Maybe it's the audio quality here, but sometimes it sounds like the same guy, sometimes it sounds like a different person.
Hmm... Never even realized that 🙄 When did they start having the stewards and stewardesses do it 🤔
I love the New York accent so much
Accent 🤔 what accent, i don't have an accent, you all do, fugghedaboutit👊😆
Whatayagonna do? Take it easy! Yo Jimmy. Love it lol

@@DanknDerpyGamer LoL, I don't remember the brownies 🤔 But I'm sure they were great 👍

Not sure what your referring to. You mean aircraft liveries ? 👊
looked like there was a good deal of fod on the side of the runway on takeoff.

The Twin Towers standing tall at 37:14
Yes they are. This foggy shot flying by is all i have. I like the new building but they should have built 2 🗽
@@NewYorkCityAviationIncredible, must have been quite the experience to have seen them in person. Also, I agree about the new building. Add a twin, maybe with an outdoor deck on top. Thanks for sharing! Love these videos 👍🏼
@@YoDanza1 Thank you my friend, appreciate that 👊 and thats a perfect idea, a second tower with observation deck. I'm not sure, I haven't been in the new building yet, but i think they may have an observation area on top. Have a blast during the holidays 🙏🗽

I wondered how people watched movies before the screens on seats. Even as primative as the 70s- 80s were, people still find ways to be more innovative and modern, unlike the 19th century, where the 1890s looked no different from the 1860s, and the 1840s looked no different from 1700s
And we didn't have headphones at the time either. So basically everyone watched the same movie and heard it throughout the aircraft 🙄

LoL your right, classic vintage vlogging 😆
Vintage? I remember 1990 like it was yesterday.
Well, the word vintage literally means "of age." With such an open meaning, there are many interpretations. Most antique dealers consider an item to be vintage if it is at least 40 years old. So, a vintage item would be made between 1918 and 1978... I stand corrected 😞
I was born on the 9th
Happy belated 33 years of birthdays 😉👊
Я подхватил эстафету в 1999 году но уже на Боинг 767
I remember times where you could smoke a cig on the plane.
Oh yeah, back in the 60s, 70s and 80s you were weird if you didn't smoke. You could smoke in hospitals even. Anchors on the news were smoking while reporting lol.
Nurses smoked on their floors too
An idea and humble suggestion, the whole population of the world, if not then Whole population of all of Europe shall be comfortably housed in All of USA and Canada, if need be Mexico can also all house the whole population. feasible only, instead of starving in extreme weather conditions of Northern Europe etc.
Thats what i think and I'm sticking to it 😉👊
I’m pretty sure clouds from the 90’s look better. Prove me wrong.
