It reminds humanity of how one sided and selfish we have been in neglecting our temples. It’s our bounden duty to take care of the places of worship where we go to seek for our materialistic pursuits and do our yat kinchit for their upkeep. We are only giving what HE gives us. The kainkaryam not only purifies our Atma but also protects our santhathis.
