Hoziers performance here was on the Longest running live chat shows in the World - The Late Late Show on RTE - the Irish public TV station. Its a BIG deal for any Irish performer - a serious show which is a rite of passage in terms of public recognition. And his parents were in the studio audience - so he was performing from his heart to his people in studio and at home.
I think he chose to let his Irish accent shine through in this song to honour the influence of Irish folk music that he used to write this piece. You can hear his accent in the album version of this song as well while you can’t really hear it as much in his other songs. Truly brilliant.
The Late Late Show is like the biggest chat show thing here in Ireland. Hozier had a great performance of The Parting Glass on there too. You should check it out.
Agree 100% on finger plucking ... the first thing I noticed when I saw Andrew live was the unique way he plucks his guitars. Most of the concert videos I’ve taken are just of his hands plucking the guitar. So hypnotic ... he really is an exceptional musician.
I love seeing people discovering what Hozier really his. He is so underrated. He is literally a poet, his lyrics are probably the best ones I have ever listened to. His vocals are just superior, and he is even better live! I can't wait for a new album to be released!
I'm always amazed when people call an artist "underrated". Hozier was never a mainstream artist to begin with and his huge success was more accidental than intentional. He's not underrated, he's just an artist who follows his calling.
it's not very often that i say i'm "obsessed" with an artist or their body of work, but when it comes to hozier, i can't think of anything else that describes how much i love everything that he does vocally, musically, whatever. looking forward to your wasteland, baby! reaction. i've lost track how many times i listened to that album back-to-back, it's so fucking good.
his live vocals are absolutely stunning, probably my favorite of any artist, because of the emotions he manages to convey. can't wait for your wasteland, baby reaction! my favorite song of all time, 'would that I' is on that album also yes, hozier is irish :3
YESS. Love Hozier. His lyrics are like poetry. I can't wait to watch you react to wasteland baby. I'd definitely recommend you watch him perform live on the NY subway; the whole set he does is absolutely amazing!
Thank you for the revue. This is my favorite performance of Shrike. Andrew is a unique songwriter, an amazing singer and a great musician. It's incredible in a live performance (sometimes, no, almost always, better live than on record).
I absolutely LOVE his lyrics and vocals and this version of Shrike is so freaking beautiful. I haven't seen this performance of Shrike, so thank you for doing a reaction of it. So underrated. Take Me to Church was everywhere when it came out, but he's got so much depth of talent and deserves for ALL of his songs to get more love.
Love Hozier sooo much, that voice, his poetry, the music. And he's a totally beautiful human too, he did a podcast series about people who have made a difference in the world. His videos are great too.
Can you PLEASE react to Hozier's NFWMB because that (well, all his songs really) is pure poetry. My life goal is to have someone write such a powerful song about me.
Yes! The guitar picking style is so special and the reason it changes the feel is because the plucking effects the frequencies of the guitar so you're getting those completely different almost "fuller textured" vibrations from the guitar. Really rich sounding--some people don't gravitate to it, but I really love it!
you actually reacted to the normal and not deluxe version of his self titled album and missed out on many of the songs he added in it especially songs like Run which are genuinely some of his best. Run has such interesting vocals because within the same line he's constantly transitioning from low to high pitch to give a particular effect for the story of the song it's one of my favorites. also Arsonist's Lullaby is a religious experience. And his nina cried power ep has 4 songs, 2 of which are in the wasteland, baby album but the other two NFWMB (inspired by the poem 'the second coming' by WB Yeats) and Moment's Silence (a song about oral sex lmao) should not be missed! so make sure to react to the deluxe version songs of the self titled album and the EP songs!
I remember listening to this song when it dropped and immediately calling my friend later and basically forcing her to listen to this. I listened almost no other song for about a month from then on
Please if you want to hear this great man sing listen to him sing the parting glass live on the late late show it’s a beautiful Irish burial song it’s haunting it’s connecting you to your past present and a glimpse into the unknown it’s amazing
Almost screamed when you said you were reacting to Wasteland, Baby! Absolutely cannot wait for you to listen and react to it! Hope it comes soon!! As for Hozier’s live performances, they are absolutely phenomenal! They feel so intimate and truly a spiritual experience!
Loved your previous Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello content. It's wonderful to see your enthusiasm for Hozier. If I were characteristize his musical style, I would say he's a perfect mix of Blues meets Irish Celtic mysticism. Us fans are hoping for a duet with Florence Welch...Just imagine the power...They both have that dark-light Fey energy that would create some supernatural music.
So excited for you to check out more Hozier! He's the magical woodland fairy we all need in our lives ❤️ I saw him live in 2019 here in Ireland, absolutely insane live vocalist.
AHHH YES cant wait to watch this! I look forward to you reacting to W,B soon! Andrew is my favorite artist of all time, so I will gladly watch anything about him lol
Will wait for baited breath for your Wasteland Baby reaction. But his live performances are really something else. The rest of his subway pop up performance (he sang 4 more songs besides TMTC). Or any of the live performances of deeper cuts not included in the album. Like Run, Arsonist’s Lullaby or his latest single Jackboot Jump.
I got to hear Shrike live at a concert of him at the end of 2018, I was in the first row because the concert wasn´t sold out at all. It was a truly magical experience
not all his live performances have this strong accent the song shrike by itself is meant to be highly irish influenced and even in the album it stands out because that strong of his irish accent is only there in shrike
I've watched so many of your videos now I knew you were going to take it back the first time he changed key xD Listening to Hozier is a transcendent experience.
The next song Hozier does on this (RTE) show is called, "The Parting Cup" which he does live & so well. It's an Irish folksong & it is a stunning song! Give a listen ......
hozier's voice make everything right in the world, such a calming sound for not so calming times, love to see that you also enjoy it :), maybe you could check out vance joy, amazing voice as well and similar vibe ;)
React to his live performance of the parting glass. It was from this same show and was a tribute to the health workers who died in Ireland during COVID
I'd love to see ypu react to him more, and I'd love to see you listening to him signing "The Parting Glass" too - the performence was on this same chat show early on in the pandemic and is a song about loss, its a well known irish song but people agree his cover does it justice. also this show, The Late Late Show is one of the oldest talk shows in the world and is very popular in Ireland!
Shrike always makes me feel like I’m yearning for something that I don’t even know I’m yearning for
Him live brings tears of joy to my eyes!
He always sings with more accent when he's at home. This song reduced my daughter to tears when she heard it live. He is amazing live to be fair.

one of the most insane vocalists ever
and one of the most underrated
And lyricist
Not insane, just amazing
A shrike is a tiny little bird of prey that hangs its catch on a thorn and dismembers it. His lyrics are dark and beautiful.
I think he chose to let his Irish accent shine through in this song to honour the influence of Irish folk music that he used to write this piece. You can hear his accent in the album version of this song as well while you can’t really hear it as much in his other songs. Truly brilliant.

It made me bawl (but we had it at my father’s funeral so 🤷♀️). Beautiful song.
Helped raise over 1.2 million
Fantastic performance 😍
"if emotion had a tone, it would be called Hozier " Hell yesssss!!!!
Can’t wait for you to react to wasteland, baby! This was so good!! Hope you check out more of his work, he’s truly incredible
I saw him live last summer (2019) and he was beyond. His vocals are even better in person. He is so underrated and people don’t appreciate him enough
Dude same. He is so amazing. He even pulled out a pride flag during Take Me To Church as it was june
He’s like an actor. He can speak and sing any accent. Of course, he’s the most gorgeous looking person too.
Well, being that he's Irish, it's pretty easy for him...😁
@@Yankeerose9973 Yeah it's his natural accent... So not difficult for him to sing in it lmao.
Agree 100% on finger plucking ... the first thing I noticed when I saw Andrew live was the unique way he plucks his guitars. Most of the concert videos I’ve taken are just of his hands plucking the guitar. So hypnotic ... he really is an exceptional musician.
This is PURE MELODIC POETRY! How have I missed this until now?? Hozier is so very special and his sound unique. Beautiful!
I love seeing people discovering what Hozier really his. He is so underrated. He is literally a poet, his lyrics are probably the best ones I have ever listened to. His vocals are just superior, and he is even better live! I can't wait for a new album to be released!

YES IVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO START REACTING TO THE SECOND ALBUM
The Hozier concert I went to in 2019 was one of the best concerts I've been to in my entire life.
He and his band are so incredible live!
YESS. Love Hozier. His lyrics are like poetry. I can't wait to watch you react to wasteland baby. I'd definitely recommend you watch him perform live on the NY subway; the whole set he does is absolutely amazing!
yessss so happy you did this, he's SO underrated
Thank you for the revue. This is my favorite performance of Shrike. Andrew is a unique songwriter, an amazing singer and a great musician. It's incredible in a live performance (sometimes, no, almost always, better live than on record).
Hozier is probably the most talented songwriter I’ve ever heard. And that voice omg.
Listen to the parting glass, also from the late, late show. Raw emotion!
I love how strong his Irish accent during this performance
yessss as much as i love his first album, his second is a masterpiece.
Love Hozier sooo much, that voice, his poetry, the music. And he's a totally beautiful human too, he did a podcast series about people who have made a difference in the world. His videos are great too.
Gorgeous song. Loved the performance and really enjoyed your reaction.
HOZIER'S MUSIC.... A PIECE OF ART

Can you PLEASE react to Hozier's NFWMB because that (well, all his songs really) is pure poetry. My life goal is to have someone write such a powerful song about me.
A fkn BEAUTIFUUL song

I remember listening to this song when it dropped and immediately calling my friend later and basically forcing her to listen to this. I listened almost no other song for about a month from then on

I love Hozier so much. He's so amazing. His voice is so dark and smoky and it makes me feel things.
Almost screamed when you said you were reacting to Wasteland, Baby! Absolutely cannot wait for you to listen and react to it! Hope it comes soon!! As for Hozier’s live performances, they are absolutely phenomenal! They feel so intimate and truly a spiritual experience!
I discovered Hozier in a tough time in my life and his voice and creations are very organic and emotional. I love his music and poetic lyrics.
Loved your previous Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello content. It's wonderful to see your enthusiasm for Hozier.
