I have always felt this. I rarely go to church now, but I feel sad when I see young girls in tight and revealing clothes, backless dresses, and low cut necklines. I don't judge them. They're just young. The older women should know better. But the weeds will grow with the tares, and it's up to people who love God to set the example. The young man speaking makes a good point. There are so many reasons not to invite non-Adventists to church. There should be none.

Totally agree. I used to justify pants until I read the Spirit of Prophecy for myself and God convicted me. Now my husband and I are adamant about our 3 year old dressing according to God’s standard daughter. May the Lord help us all.

OK, so I grew up SDA from the age of 9/10 till about 16. Then I lost interest in Christianity. Now, that I have come back to the church, I often wish that the message had been explained to me better. Like via the good person test, would have been good. But yes, this man is correct, back in the late 60s and early 70's there was a lot of immodest dress to be seen at church and at the SDA high school, I went to. With the benefit of hindsight, this did not encourage the love of God that we really needed to be learning. If the Amish can understand it, then so could have those of us growing up in the church, if the message of modest dressed had been in our lessons. In so many ways, the church was failing its youth.
God calls us to a higher standard and to be peculiar, to be in the world but not of the world which Titus has done s good job of. He has his way of living and dress for a reason, and I don’t think he’s calling us all to his way…. But the older I get the more simplicity has it’s draws. With that said we also need to not set ourselves apart that we would turn people from the truth for our own appetite of being peculiar for the sake of drawing attention.. I don’t see Titus as this but it’s a way unbalanced people can damage the gospel call… we need to hold to the standards God has called us to.. and being there at that session I can agree with Titus. Keep in mind many of these young people attending are still on milk and haven’t gotten to the meat because of the lukewarmness in their homes, so if we’re doing our job well we can introduce them to meat in due season.
Men and women have lost dignity by wearing inappropriate clothing. It is more suitable for the beach than the city. Decency and pride have been lost. A sense of occasion, and knowing what is acceptable for that occasion has somehow been selfishly blurred.

I had mentioned to a Seventh Day Adventist friend over 2 decades ago that I would imagine Ellen White would be astonished at the current decay of morality and modesty in what was her vision of Christianity. I'm not picking on any particular church, just saying we all need to turn to God's Instructions.
Well spoken Titus and he is spot on. I am glad he has not been to the beach like I have with Christians to see the dress, or more properly said, undress that so many Christian women don. It is often less than bras and panties and I am not being hyperbolic. I am amazed and stupefied how this has become accepted AND defended! At this point, I don't know why any clothing is needed because so many women are more naked than clothed (esp. at the beach) as it is (I do believe men should be covered btw). What likewise troubles me is that Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish women are totally modest in their dress and that of their children. You will NEVER see them immodest in the slightest of ways. Whether it is at the beach or walking the streets or in a store shopping, they are fully covered and look like women. Their beauty is not hidden but it is concealed. I write that this troubles me because we as Christians call Jews to repentance and profess that we have the truth and are the wellspring of Godly knowledge, yet many, many women professing to be Christians wear less clothing and show more of their bodies than a harlot on a street corner. Provocative statement; yes, truthful, yes. I can only think of Romans 2 where it is written, "And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself?" It is high time we teach ourselves for truly..."the name of God is blasphemed among the [Jews]" because of our nakedness and clear violation of the letter and spirit of the Word to be modest, covered and not naked. They have to look at us and say if that is what their G-d permits and approves of, we want nothing of that. And I don't blame them one iota.
Every denomination seems to emphasize small parts of scriptural teachings only. And the reason they don't emphasize the other teachings is because they are actively participating in the sin which those scriptures condemn. Denominations rarely allow for the kind of participation at church meetings where those of the body of Christ can speak out against the false teachings or the misdirection the church is headed. The members of the body of Christ that were suppose to speak out when the church became misguided were called prophets. They were accepted in the early church, but as more and more man made doctrine and corruption crept into the church, members were no longer allowed to speak against it.

I keep telling myself that it's good because i'm not showing off my body so it's modest, so it's therefore good. But it's also not feminine, which we're asked to dress feminine as women.

But once I heard testimonies of people who’ve been taken to heaven and hell and the Lord showed them. I had to stop immediately. Indeed, the standards in mainline and independent SDA movements are far too low. Titus has inspired me to take dress reform, health reform, Sabbath reform, etc, to a much higher level. I know that this man probably received a lot of eye roles in public, amongst peer pressure and society.... Truth - How we dress our bodies, how we treat our bodies could demonstrate the attention, understanding and wisdom that the "person" realizes that their body is a "Temple of God". With that, the Holy Spirit is more welcome and invited, and the Lord is pleased in this personal understanding, because it is true!

We are allowed to call upon God's name and have Jesus/YESHUA as our friend and redeemer.

Totally agree. I used to justify pants until I read the Spirit of Prophecy for myself and God convicted me. Now my husband and I are adamant about our 3 year old dressing according to God’s standard daughter. May the Lord help us all.

OK, so I grew up SDA from the age of 9/10 till about 16. Then I lost interest in Christianity. Now, that I have come back to the church, I often wish that the message had been explained to me better. Like via the good person test, would have been good. But yes, this man is correct, back in the late 60s and early 70's there was a lot of immodest dress to be seen at church and at the SDA high school, I went to. With the benefit of hindsight, this did not encourage the love of God that we really needed to be learning. If the Amish can understand it, then so could have those of us growing up in the church, if the message of modest dressed had been in our lessons. In so many ways, the church was failing its youth.

God calls us to a higher standard and to be peculiar, to be in the world but not of the world which Titus has done s good job of.
He has his way of living and dress for a reason, and I don’t think he’s calling us all to his way…. But the older I get the more simplicity has it’s draws.
With that said we also need to not set ourselves apart that we would turn people from the truth for our own appetite of being peculiar for the sake of drawing attention.. I don’t see Titus as this but it’s a way unbalanced people can damage the gospel call… we need to hold to the standards God has called us to.. and being there at that session I can agree with Titus.
Keep in mind many of these young people attending are still on milk and haven’t gotten to the meat because of the lukewarmness in their homes, so if we’re doing our job well we can introduce them to meat in due season.
Men and women have lost dignity by wearing inappropriate clothing. It is more suitable for the beach than the city. Decency and pride have been lost. A sense of occasion, and knowing what is acceptable for that occasion has somehow been selfishly blurred.

Well spoken Titus and he is spot on. I am glad he has not been to the beach like I have with Christians to see the dress, or more properly said, undress that so many Christian women don. It is often less than bras and panties and I am not being hyperbolic. I am amazed and stupefied how this has become accepted AND defended! At this point, I don't know why any clothing is needed because so many women are more naked than clothed (esp. at the beach) as it is (I do believe men should be covered btw).
What likewise troubles me is that Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish women are totally modest in their dress and that of their children. You will NEVER see them immodest in the slightest of ways. Whether it is at the beach or walking the streets or in a store shopping, they are fully covered and look like women. Their beauty is not hidden but it is concealed. I write that this troubles me because we as Christians call Jews to repentance and profess that we have the truth and are the wellspring of Godly knowledge, yet many, many women professing to be Christians wear less clothing and show more of their bodies than a harlot on a street corner.
Provocative statement; yes, truthful, yes. I can only think of Romans 2 where it is written, "And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself?" It is high time we teach ourselves for truly..."the name of God is blasphemed among the [Jews]" because of our nakedness and clear violation of the letter and spirit of the Word to be modest, covered and not naked. They have to look at us and say if that is what their G-d permits and approves of, we want nothing of that. And I don't blame them one iota.

Every denomination seems to emphasize small parts of scriptural teachings only. And the reason they don't emphasize the other teachings is because they are actively participating in the sin which those scriptures condemn. Denominations rarely allow for the kind of participation at church meetings where those of the body of Christ can speak out against the false teachings or the misdirection the church is headed. The members of the body of Christ that were suppose to speak out when the church became misguided were called prophets. They were accepted in the early church, but as more and more man made doctrine and corruption crept into the church, members were no longer allowed to speak against it.

I am curious is he addressing just women? Are the women advised to only wear long dresses or are they wearing jeans? I will probably never completely go to dresses I don't care for them and I am comfortable in jeans but y'all can wear whatever you want. I wont ever be dressing like a pioneer.

Think for one second rather than letting someone else's notion of what constituted modest dress: Do you really think that a dress is more modest than a pair of pants/jeans? If so, please explain it. When I wear a pair of britches, I don't have to worry about going up a flight of stairs and what the folks underneath might see, I don't have to worry about the wind whipping my dress over my head and leaving nothing to the imagination, and if I fall, I know that all the bits are covered no matter how I land. So tell me again why dresses are more modest than pants?

No other human has any right to tell you that you cannot wear one. What is important is that you feel comfortable in whatever you wear. I support you -- go put that dress on!!

omg that's Titus I knew he was one of us! I should learn from his example. I tend to wear long shorts and big t shirts rather than dress more feminine, but it's a comfort issue. I keep telling myself that it's good because i'm not showing off my body so it's modest, so it's therefore good. But it's also not feminine, which we're asked to dress feminine as women.
Where did trousers originate? Same as abortion I say once we understand the root and what God’s Word says of it no excuses makes it. I was once there too with make up fake hair and all. But once I heard testimonies of people who’ve been taken to heaven and hell and the Lord showed them. I had to stop immediately. It reminded me of the story of The rich man and the beggar, at the end The Lord says even if someone died and went back to tell them they wouldn’t believe. What a sad statement
