Dylan gave Stella so many tries to not punt the game but he just kept doing it, what a great example on why not to get tunnel vision and play selfishly
Taking actions that ultimately got rid of the Drana + Linvala without the ability to capitalize on it immediately was just throwing the game to Magda imho.
Please do more of these mini-metas. Would love to see what this format looks like with more subtle rule changes. Like what would this look like without dockside? What would it be without rhystic study?
Dryad Arbor doesn’t work with Varolz, but not due to Drana and Linvala. Varolz grants a Scavenge cost equal to its mana cost, but Dryad Arbor has no mana cost so it’s impossible to pay it
@@samdalfthegray4495 The mana value is zero, but there’s no mana cost, and that’s what Varolz looks for. It’s the same reason you can’t flashback Ancestral Visions with Snapcaster.
@samdalfthegray4495 Even then when a spell has 0 as its mana cost it has no mana cost. But since Dryad is a land also it does not even have 0 as a cost because you play it as land for turn
If Varolz said "each creature card in your graveyard has scavenge {X}, where X is its mana value", then yes, creature cards with no mana cost would have scavenge {0}. As Varolz is written, though, the original comment is correct: Dryad Arbor has scavenge for an unpayable cost, so it can't be scavenged for that cost.
fun game, i feel like kurohitsuki kinda just handed the game to nate though removing the Drana and Linvala when they had no more gas to actually win when it was gone on their turn
I recently added Drana and Linvala to my sans blue list in cEDH and DAMN has it put in work. Stops Sisay, Stella, Kinnan, Thrasios, Magda, etc etc etc. it stops so many relevant commanders and cards that it’s won me multiple games
I like that you guys are doing these decks without the really expensive stuff. Playing with Power used to have games where they did budget lists and I kinda miss that. I think playing with a budget is good for the community since it helps to get more people in the door to cEDH and also there are tournaments out there that don't allow proxies, so we have to start considering more budget-friendly builds that can win if a player doesn't have access to the really expensive good stuff.
I think experiments like this are always interesting. Finding a balance between high-power EDH and the competitive side is something I wish I saw more. I think the Spike Feeders do this well, but that's about all I've seen, though I think it only works well for them because they don't always run decks with Thoracle/Consult.
Have you considered doing a video that's the opposite, where you take your casual decks and add in all the free spells, fast mana, super efficient removal and draw engines, but keep the overall strategy the same? Might be interesting!
This is exactly how my pod plays, no fast mana, no free spells. We also play with certain target bans (jeskas will, mana drain, rhystic study and fish, and dockside) and no hand tutors, and we agree it's the optimal casual experience 😂😂
These are exactly my play group rules! If you want a fun 10-15 minute game where you race to get your protected combo off, definitely play cEDH.. but if you want a 45min-1.5 hour game of chess magic then play casual with these exact rules
Hey guys! Any chance for next year's pride merch you can up the sizes? I'd love to buy one of the shirts but my shoulders make 2x's a bit iffy. Keep up the great content!
I would like to see an episode with rakdos the muscle as commander, i think he's overlooked, and maybe he's not the strongest, but it will surprise you how turbo he can be
Normally I’m not a fan of Magic variants (I don’t know why it’s just true). But this one is really cool. It’s a nice budget version of CEDH too because you don’t have to have the Mox Diamond, Mana crypt etc.
not paying the 2 for the Archiac trigger with TWO blue floating from the lotus + 3 other mana sources up... then they just let the 2 floating fizzle... these are some piss poor plays.

Hey I think you guys should check out the new red assassin's Creed commander alexios Deimos of kosmos, he's basically slicer but you can run more protection
11:20 i really need a judge to help clarify if you can cast a spell "in response?" to an opponent about to be leaving a phase? i was sure you have to have something to respond to which is if an ability triggers, a spell is cast, or if an opponent fully changes phases? i do know, however, that if it is "your turn" even in the end step you can just do stuff because it's still functionally your turn.
Not a judge, but that was a valid play. When a player says something like "I pass my turn" they are actually proposing a shortcut through the rest of the phases of their turn while also passing priority. All other players must then go through priority while choosing to accept the shortcut or not. Any player other than the one who proposed the shortcut is allowed to stop the shorcut at any point before the proposed 'endpoint' to take a game action.
I feel like I missed something, why didn't Kuro pay the Wandering Archaic tax with the other 2 blue mana he had from his gilded lotus, since Suspend is only 1 mana and the lotus gives 3?
Question, couldn't Kurohitsuki tap Stella Lee in response to the Wandering Archaic trigger, targeting Twisted Fealty, then just keep copying the Twisted Fealty and not let the Wandering Archaic resolve? Just wanted to clarify if I got the idea wrong. Thanks
LET’S GOOOO!! Seen and heard, I ask for Kuro and here it is (though I’m sure it was already in the works) 🥺 amazing! My 2 favorite channels together 😁🔥
my lgs has a begginer commander league a mid cedh commander league and a full cedh league. ive been playing in the mid and the rules are no 0 drop mana rocks and you cant win untill turn 7
IMO as a rough guideline for power levels, if you aren't playing fast mana I think your deck is a 9/10 at best, which is the top end of high powered EDH so maybe that's what this is? Almost cEDH makes me think you have like half the fast mana rocks, like you have mana crypt but not LED or some such. Maybe would be interesting to explore commander without any cards over $200 since that excludes a lot of those types of cards which are largely unavailable for most players.
With the two removals for the clock, would it of been better to target the roaming throne? Or did it matter by then? Cause the clock only works with an artifact dwarf in play also?
If Nate finds another artifact dwarf he can still win if we don’t deal with clock. If we deal with clock, he can find all the artifact dwarves he wants cause we got rid of his 1 irreplaceable combo pieces
@PlaytoWinMTG ah makes sense, after watching it again, the clown car put in alot of work to; magda has alot of resilience, I think most every game I've ever seen the clock hit it's over, so I've tried to tell myself to take out the artifact dwarf more then magda herself. With how many treasures he had though I can see how it forces you to answer the clock ⏰️ since he can just get another dwarf right away.. krosan grip comes to mind but idk for sure 😅
skarragan hellkite is the strictly worse wincon in magda no? not sure if ill see it in the game but its in the deck showcase :p I just read the title, fuck
Why not play budget cedh???? It’s much more accessible! Lik no cards above 5 dollars, or total deck price 100 dollars or less. Or however you wanna do it
Cuz budget and cEDH don’t mix. Any “budget” deck can never compete with actual cEDH decks. Also, almost nobody plays “budget” cEDH since cEDH is proxy friendly.
I’m sorry but I watch you to see have better players then myself play cedh. And I’m afraid that Stella Lee player is so so bad. 11:16 Why didn't Kuro pay the 2? He had 3 blue floating from the Gilded Lotus and only used 1 on the Suspend
Kuro had 3 untapped mana sources as well. It made absolutely no sense to not pay for the trigger.
