  • The season is coming to an end and winter prep must start soon.
It has been a cold and hot/dry summer where most of the typical storage either never bloomed (lingonberries/cranberries) or was heat stressed for much of the summer (fireweed, locoweeds and other natives). We have had very little rain with temperature 5-10C above normal since mid June. Many fires burning across the territory... We have been lucky in my area no no significant fires.
We are likely a week away from 1st frost and most of my forage is finished. I will be pulling my small harvest this week and starting my early phase of winter prep. Colonies have been nutritionally stressed (lack of pollen) since spring requiring me to have some patties to ensure colonies continued to develop. It was another summer of extremes and unstable weather.
Well that is beekeeping in the Yukon.
