  • Hi Guys,
    Welcome to my gardening channel.
Here are some steps for taking cuttings from chrysanthemums, also known as mums, to propagate new plants:
    1. Take cuttings in spring
Use established plants in your garden, but avoid diseased ones.
    2. Cut the stem
Make a clean, sharp cut at a diagonal just below a leaf node. You can use your fingers or a knife to pinch out any buds.
    3. Remove leaves
Pull off most of the leaves, leaving just a couple at the top. Removing the lower leaves can help prevent water stress.
    4. Prepare the cutting
Optionally, you can dip the cutting in rooting powder or cinnamon powder to help it grow roots. Then, tap off any excess powder.
    5. Plant the cutting
Fill a shallow pot or wooden box with clean sand or sterile rooting material, like perlite or vermiculite, and wet it thoroughly. Make a hole in the material that's about 1.5 inches deep, then gently insert the cutting and press it down. You can also place the cutting around the edge of the pot and firm it in.
    6. Provide care
Keep the cutting in a place with a temperature of around 65° F and partial sunlight. You can cover it with newspaper for a couple of days to protect it from strong sunlight. Water it every other day, and after about 15 days, you should see well-developed roots.
