  • Hello Everyone!
    Today I’m making a steampunk inspired skirt for my costume by altering a simple peasant skirt. Looking online the kind of skirts I wanted were so expensive and the style is so simple to make I immediately knew I’d rather sew my own.
    I picked up a simple, long peasant skirt at a thrift shop and simply stitched through the tiers in two straight lines up towards the waste. Tie the strings and reinforce the stitches and that’s it. So simple!
    The whole project took less than 20 minutes start to finish and when paired with these awesome leggings from Amazon, the look is on point. I don’t have the rest of my costume finished yet, but I really like how the skirt turned out.
    As I mentioned in the video, the leggings aren’t quite as vibrant in real life as they are in the picture online, but I do like them. If you’d like to pick up your own pair I’ll link them below.

    You are brilliant!!!. I have been looking for simple, easy instructions in order to remake a black satiny chemise in this design for a witch costume all day!!! Thank you so much!

    This is exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to wear a steampunk-style skirt for the Renaissance Festival this year, and just like you said they were super expensive! I’m going thrifting with a friend soon, so I’ll be on the lookout for a skirt that will work for this project.

    That is really great, I like to continue the ruching all around the skirt, making the side gathers longer, but then that creates the "gathered shape" all around, and does not bunch it up in the front.
    Or it needs lotsa ruffles on the back!
    Great video! LOVE IT!
    See the whole finished look?

      That's a great idea! Glad you liked the video. I don't have the whole look on the vid, but it's on my instagram (a ways back now) @starsetmoonfire if you want to see what I put together for the whole look. :)

    Thanks for this tutorial, I'm thinking of making a steampunk outfit for Halloween this year. I would add a tulle or similar petticoat under the skirt to give it volume and a bustle.
    I love your tights and am going to Amazon them now. I hope they still have them.

    Hey! I have a skirt I'm planning to do this with, but can you undo it? Like, can I take out the stitches and wear it without anyone noticing that the skirt was changed?

    • @StarsetMoonfire
      @StarsetMoonfire  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depending on the fabric, yes. Anytime you push a needle through something a little hole is made. On cotton, knits, gauzy fabric like this skirt, you won't see anything because the fabric is loosely woven and naturally has holes in it and the threads shift enough to go back into place. But on tightly woven fabrics, like satin etc. You will still see the marks.

      For this particular type of skirt you could sew small plastic rings (as used in Roman shades) on the inside of the skirt at the ruffle tier seams and use string or ribbon threaded through to pull the skirt up, and then release them to wear the skirt in the normal way.
