I have grown to LOVE riverboats. Part of it has to do with the Mississippi cruises available, my own Mid Western heritage, the Mark Twain at Disneyland, the old Ruben E. Lee replica in Newport Beach that I used to go to when it was a combined maritime museum/restaurant (I miss it so much). It’s all a rich tapestry. I actually FOUND a 1976 original drawing/print of one of the Natchez at my local Salvation Army and have it displayed above my 1940s four-poster bed frame. Trying to cozy up and diversify my home decor while paying tribute to my heritage. I would absolutely love to sail on a riverboat one of these days. One that isn’t attached to a track in a man made lagoon. Not complaining. I love that we have the Mark Twain still to this day. It’s a truly immersive experience. But, wow! The Natchez just looks so incredible. After getting accustomed to the size of the Mark Twain, it’s like going from the RMS Oceanic to the SS Normandie with the Natchez. These travel review logs are making me want to visit New Orleans so terribly much.
Nothing like a steam ship or boat. ⛴️ Diesel powered ships and boats are nice too, but steam engines are so fascinating and beautiful and unparalleled.
I moved to Louisiana in 1989, originally living on the west bank of New Orleans. I currently live in Baton Rouge, and I will say that coming here from the north was quite a culture shock. All that said, I firmly believe that we have the best food in the country. Louisiana has it's challenges, (crooked politicians, hurricanes, etc) but the food makes it all worth while.
Very cool, Alex. I love the steamboat!! I can understand folks getting annoyed by the calliope though. I love the steam sound, but as a musician I notice it's out of tune and that's what bugs me. But others that don't notice stuff like that- more power to them! Looking forward to the rest of your videos. 🥰
@@AlextheHistorian As a steam whistle enthusiast this was a pleasure to watch. The Natchez definitely has the best and loudest whistle of the bunch! Thank you for this video Alex :)
Its like i went on vacation for free i love your content you keep being you and as for me i never knew the name of that instrument yet im 35 and and adore it because it reminds me of the old timey circus i seen as a kid in baraboo wi clown town usa home of the ringling brothers and all the neat circus history they keep alive out yonder not this new circus with techno musoc blasting and lasers and smoke
Thank you! Yes the Calliope was traditionally played at circuses, especially when the circus would parade down the main street of town on its way to the fair grounds!

I dont think so. Mostly because I didn't have enough time to work on anything, but also because my Halloween themed videos just don't get enough views.
@AlextheHistorian Have you ever see thr van nuys city hall in van nuys California the reason I asl is because it's an art deco building or burbank city hall it's streamline moderne
Hmmmm People that don't like Calliopes shouldn't go to the French Quarter and maybe visit the Walmart on Tchoupitoulas Street instead -- there are no Calliopes there. lol
Calliopes are so cute makes me think of Mark Twain. People like us who APPRECIATE all historic respect it. Those that don't know or more less don't care they won't understand (the minority or majority of it all)
It's neat to hear the calliope...it really compliments the river boat. It would be nice to hear a competent calliope player, however...the person playing on your voyage played some wrong notes.

Thanks Matthew!
Alex, I am so glad you had a fun time exploring NOLA. It is quite a place to visit with its own unique culture and cuisine. Cheers!!!🎉🎉🎉
Calliopes are beautiful. I've played them on my electronic keyboard but never a real one. Boy, that would be thrill!
Very Cool 😎👍

The Natchez looks so nice! If I visit New Orleans again I'll definitely check it out!
It's so fun!
I love the calorie from a distance, I remember hearing one when I watched the Delta Queen on the Ohio years ago.😃

Looking forward to the next New Orleans video!
I love those old riverboats! Especially when they have a built in calliope.
The trip aboard Natchez looked amazing! I am very jealous lol
It was sooo cool!
This is really in, especially for me as I’ve never been to New Orleans.
Thank you.❤
Real cooking takes time❤

Jeez, that steam whistle sounds like it means business!
It was so loud! I loved it

@MaritimeNexus my pleasure!
great
Hi Alex- do you think you’ll do a video just on the architecture of the French Quarter? Sounds pretty interesting from what you’ve been showing so far
Yeah definitely! I have lots of footage of French Quarter architecture!
LOL, i hope this does not sound weird or anything, but your voice at the you were talking about the calliope sounded very relaxing
Thank you!

Alex, have you ever heard of the carrilion
Yep. Carrilions produce beautiful music!
@AlextheHistorian Do you plan on uploading anything for the Halloween season like you did with the haunted apartment video

Yes I agree. I was really delighted by the calliope!

Yeah it did seem as though some of the notes were off but I wasn't sure if that's because I know nothing about playing music 😅
It is pronounced “Natch-(like batch) ess”. There is no Notch in Natchez. The owners would hate to hear that!
