I have been out for about a year now and I am looking through these DLI videos with fondness. I was a double major in French and German before DLI and that was a cakewalk in comparison. Best time of my enlistment!
Wait are you saying majoring in French and German was a cake walk on comparison to the DLI, or that the DLI was much easier compared to the double majors? I'm currently enlisted in the army and already took the DLAB and got a score of 123, and I'm debating about whether I want to go to the DLI and for what language.
I am an old timer class of 65 in Spanish. What a great post and great instructors and the best food I had in the Army. The head of the galley was the best "Dog Robber" I ever saw trading in Monterey with the merchants for fresh vegetables, seafood etc. The instructors were great and the instruction invaluable. Great post.
Been in the Navy for 3 years now. I am trying so hard to get converted to have the honor of attending this school. Hope anyone reading this that is currently attending DLI understands the opportunities you are being given. Good luck with your studies.
Miss Monterey, and Carmel Valley!!! For those moving there, there is AWESOME gymnastics facility on Del Monte called Rising Star , so get your girls there and say hi to Kathleen and Kelly 4 me!!!
Will be going to the DLI soon. My grandmother used to teach Russian there, and my family speaks Russian at home. I don't speak it but can understand a good majority of it. I've heard that often the Air Force will not let you pick your language and will decide for you depending on there needs. Anybody have any advice on how to possibly ensure I get Russian when I go? Or at least make it as likely as possible that I will get it. I have a 99 ASVAB and 123 DLAB
these ones are behind the curve.....too much time....and too much stress....the world, of language learning is moving on, these ones need to catch up...
That was some pretty lame Russian. But! I remember walking onto the quarterdeck where a guy in shorts handed me a bottle of wine and said "welcome to Monterey!" Pretty sure thats not done any longer....

I love all this old footage, Although it can't be that old because I did see my Pashto teacher.
I went through DLI's Russian program while it was in San Antonio (85). It was one of the best times of my life.

Brian Nick this may not help but you get to choose when you join the navy I’m not sure about The Air Force though
Heading off to Lackland Jan 19 then to the DLI. Cant wait

Marilu D great. I'm almost done with the Korean course.
Russian '87 course. It was awesome. Now, residing and working in Russia for 25 years.
I had a great time there. I was a 9212 USN Korling. I loved that place. Granted I was there from 1988-89.
